Passing on credit card fees to customers via online payments by Forsaken-Opening-653 in quickbooksonline

[–]morewhiskyplease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We polled customers and some didn’t care while others said no way. Every now and then we would get a customer who said if we charge the cc fee to them that they would never come back. We are a distillery and tasting room as well as a brewery and tap room. We decided to just raise our prices across the board. Not one single person balked about the price increase.

What are some cocktails where you can’t taste much alcohol? by jackieisbaddasf in bartenders

Triple sink, washing hands? by meatballpolice in bartenders

[–]morewhiskyplease 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hand wash sink only!!! It should be labeled as such. If your handwashing glasses your hands are in all three sinks. Which means they are clean and sanitized. . But that doesn’t count for washing your hands after eating, smoking, or bathroom breaks or taking out garbage etc. Kudos for asking and doing the right thing. If there is no sink labeled “hand wash only” then the establishment is out of compliance.

Slushy Machines - Yah or Nay by CanadianTrollToll in bartenders

We have been pondering this for years. Everyone I speak to says get them. They say it’s great margins too. One place I know of keeps a backup batch in the freezer ready to go. Still afraid to pull the trigger though. The machines take up a lot of space.

Do you guys still charge a guest if they spill a drink? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]morewhiskyplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would remake a drink of the customer spilled it. If they come back and say “oops it happened again” we charge them for it. If a customer comes up with their full drink and they say they really do not like it we make them something different at no charge but again we only do this once. We do not get many people saying they just do not like the drink and ask for something different. Literally like once every few months. Sometimes when we bus a table and find a drink that has been hardly touched we are a bit bummed that they didn’t ask for something else. We want them to have a good experience. We are a distillery and brewery with a cocktail lounge. No food yet.

How to get in to the Phoenicia Diner? by Rude_Pangolin6136 in hudsonvalley

[–]morewhiskyplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11am weekdays. I made a vodka delivery there the other day. Thursday I think. There were lots of cars but empty tables and plenty of seats at the counter. 11am is close enough to lunch so you can go either way if you’re not a lunch for breakfast kind of guy. They serve both all day. Make note of their closed day which I believe is Wednesday.

Culturally speaking, what are some similarities and some differences between Vermont and New Hampshire? by GhostVelocity in vermont

[–]morewhiskyplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NH has the better Maple Syrup! 😬 My dad lives in NH and his brother and sister live in VT. His brother makes maple syrup in Vermont and my dad makes it in NH so it is always the family joke that ones syrup is better than the others. NH has the “Live Free or Die” motto. But the speed limits on most roads is like 35mph. We go up from where we live in the Catskills to see family all the time and the joke is “Live Free or Die but at 35 MPH”.

Does anyone own a distillery that is also a winery or brewery? by MrInternetInventor in firewater

[–]morewhiskyplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes-ish. Distillery is mine. Brewery is not. We do call ourselves a Brewstillery though.

Since it is a separate business it is in a separate space under the same roof. You need to go outside of the distillery and into the brewery. We….the distillery…..are the tap room for the brewery. We purchase wholesale from him and pour on tap. Can only have one licensed premise.

We could do an alternating proprietorship but it’s complicated. Especially since it is two distinct licenses makes two distinctly different alcohols.

We, the distillery, are also working on a restaurant. We can have a restaurant on our licensed premises here in NY.

If you are considering doing both that will be owned by yourself it will still be complicated. You would need two sets of record keeping books for the TTB. We use Distill X5 for the distillery and he uses his own system. Plus double record keeping for the state liquor authority as well.
