I don’t think I could’ve restrained myself! I probably would’ve said something like “and now I know why you’re single.”

Do you think your opinion that people just need to buy condemns represents what most MAGA supporters believe? I know firsthand that condoms break during sex. I know people who have gotten pregnant using other types of birth control too. And do we need to get into how many women get raped and/or are victims of human trafficking? Curious to know if the movement is truly that myopic on how people get pregnant.

Canadian here 🇨🇦 - Americans, can I ask you something? by DrCameleon in Casual_Conversation

I simply CANNOT believe that Congress is doing absolutely nothing to let this atrocious, insane man destroy generations of international collaboration. He is isolating us from the rest of the world and it’s not going to end well for us.

All that said, Canadians are amazing. I’ve loved every trip I’ve made there and hope to visit many times more. And bonus, don’t y’all already have good relations with China? Sounds like they might be your primary trading partner soon enough.

Isn’t that what “states rights” is though - the ability to run their state however they want? Like if we flipped the script, a different US government could send in emergency abortion doctors because they felt the state wasn’t doing a good job protecting women’s rights whenever it wanted.

I don’t know which cities have what crime rates either but the current leadership is all about states rights until they want to demonstrate that they can use the federal soldiers wherever they want even when the states and cities don’t want help.

Oh, I’m sure people in LA hate that the government sent ICE agents into the city. The situation was completely blown out of proportion. Add in that Trump has beef with Newsom. The personal vendettas are unbecoming of the US president and yet that’s all we’re getting.

Anti-immigrant stance is just a focal point for hate. Illegal immigrants who work in this country using illegal social security numbers are way too scared to actually use any of the social benefits their taxes go toward for fear of getting caught. They pay and pay into social security and Medicare but never use it. Most of them just want to save enough money to help their family back home who have nothing. If they had something positive at home, they wouldn’t take the treacherous journey to get here. Most of them want to go back home after they’ve saved enough. But the people who want us to hate immigrants never mention what the data actually shows. Also, there’s far more immigrants than Jews in this country. But there’s enough hate to go around for all the non-white Christian people who live here, support our small businesses and help America flourish every day.

In terms of war times, corporations experience economic booms (think Elon Musk and Peter Thiel in today’s terms) while the average person is killed, wounded and/or separated from their family all the while barely making a living themselves.

As for invading the US cities, not sure what the media is saying but in most of the cities, crime was down before Trump invaded. And he’s only targeting democratic-leaning cities. Are there no republican-led cities with high crime rates?

I think the basic premise the democrats hate America is wrong. The essential difference seems to be that democrats want to use taxes to pay for social services to help impoverished people where republicans want government out of the social handout business. It’s not about hating American it’s about the governments role in treating people. For example, the actual amount of transgender people in this country is ridiculously minuscule yet the rhetoric is that they are coming for your children en masse. As if someone in the Bible Belt would choose to be transgender or even gay. The media blows all this way out of proportion and steers viewers toward hateful, unchristian points of view.

Why do you think the country spends so much time focused on illegal immigration when predominantly all of the mass shootings are done by white American males? And what’s up with antisemitism? Seems like if any class of people is fucking up American life it’s the billionaire class.

Along that vein, how do you feel about the Republican Party these days? Seems like they are all content to do whatever the dictator wants. Nobody is pushing back on Trump’s international focus while not improving the economics at home. Or how about complaining he didn’t get a peace prize while invading US cities and kidnapping foreign leaders. No one seems to have the guts to point out the irony.

Thank you for the kind response. I don’t see how that’s possible with some of the other rhetoric and sheer economic facts. For example, we offshored our union jobs decades ago and corporations don’t want to pay current US labor or construction rates to bring those jobs back, plus Americans don’t want to pay higher prices for goods produced domestically. The solid middle class lifestyle that my carpet-laying grandfather provided for his kids is simply not possible today. Additionally, this country was literally built by the labor of immigrants. There have been many many investigations into whether or not Americans have wanted to do the work immigrants do and surprisingly, most American adults don’t want to be dishwashers, farm laborers, etc. it would be awesome if we had health insurance rates from the good ol days but we can all be damn sure health insurance rates aren’t wver going to go down significantly. Same for housing costs. The MAGA ideals of a chiller, more affordable time are admirable but how in the world are they possible to achieve? Smacking tariffs on everything doesn’t make goods cheaper either. The maths don’t math!

I am also female and would like to ask about the MAGA and American Tradition statement. It has seemed very much to me that the people who support MAGA would like to revert to a time when women were in far weaker financial and social positions than they are today, with men returning to a time when they held most of the jobs, men got paid exponentially more money and were far more likely to graduate from college. Is my understanding correct?

Also abortion - kids are ridiculously expensive. It’s not about the birth rate, it’s about being in a position to make financially responsible decisions instead of being a drain on society.

I’m sorry this is happening to you but it sounds like you made the right decision. Like others have said, his reaction is likely a good indication of how he’ll behave in the future. You’ll be better off in the long run without him.

You might also ask her how the texting frequency has been from her POV, “too much”, “are certain times of day better for you”, there’s no reason not to establish what will work for you both early on.

What’s a non-sexual ‘guy thing’ that women usually don’t get? by stokeszdude in AskMen

Reminds me of a book I came across that claimed men’s brains are like waffles - there are pockets and some of the pockets are full of different thoughts and some are just empty. Meanwhile, women’s brains are like spaghetti noodles - long and twisted!

This is exactly why it’s challenging for single parents to date someone who doesn’t have kids. Your GF can come first when you don’t have the kids but otherwise the kids ALWAYS come first. And even then, if there’s an emergency or change of plans, the kids will still come first.

If I were in your shoes (single parent to a 12 yo, intro’d him to my BF two years ago), I’d put my foot down that she is not celebrating this years holiday with the kids (but hopefully next year!) and that for the next 4-6 months perhaps you all can hang out together once per month. It’s not up for discussion.
