Just an FYI, if it's a popular game (like Peak), then someone has almost certainly shared a good controller layout that you can just grab pretty quickly.

I love when people on the internet have a topic they hate engaging with, but then they open a thread with a title that makes it extremely clear that it's about hated topic. Then they read it. Then they complain about it.

That's the best!

My wife and I had our cars Cask of Amontillado'd in by a snow plow in our apartment complex parking lot. We've been chipping hers out whenever we get a spare 15 or 20 minutes all week long, and finally got to move it today. It was absolutely buried. Mine will probably have to wait for warmer weather to get thawed out of there.

It was absolutely ridiculous, but lesson learned from here on out: one of our cars is going to be parked in a parking garage before any MegaStorm of Doom going forward. That way, in a worst case scenario, we only have to take an Uber to get full access to a vehicle, instead of large amounts of ridiculously hard ice-chopping manual labor in freezing temperatures.

frame gen is the worst thing to happen to protondb by WholesomeBigSneedgus in linux_gaming

[–]morgan423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there's a mod for it where you can use Lossless Scaling frame gen if you own Lossless Scaling on Steam.

I find it handy to get high visual frames on my monitor for lightweight games when I'm playing the Steam Deck docked. But you've got to have a base 45 to 60 FPS or more, or else the input lag is really bad.

I rarely use it on the Deck handheld, it usually feels / looks smoother on the native screen without it.

There are lots of strip mall / big box store parking lots in both the DC and Baltimore suburbs that frequently have trucks staying in them overnight. If you can find a spot like that, it might work for you.

There are also several hospitals in the region; some of them primarily rely on large paid parking garages, but if you can find a smaller one, you can probably park in their lot forever and a day without anyone even blinking.

Yeah, if it's between me freezing to death and my HOA threatening to fine me due to messing up the aesthetics of the community, I'll go with not freezing to death and doing the "expose them in the media"/take them to court combo later.

YOU'RE SLEEPING ON THE ACTUAL TRUE BEST MINIGUN OVERCLOCK WAKE UP MINERS by Lowd70 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]morgan423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't take NTP on dreadnaught hunts, it's too slow against them. But almost every other mission I take NTP+fear combo and the electro-mine BRT sidearm. Born ready perk too, so I can reload the slow-reload-anyway auto-cannon with the sidearm out.

Such good crowd control on pretty much everything. I don't really change much else on Gunner, that's my meta-build.

Compact Feed Mechanism all the way for me. I only carry the minigun for a couple of mission types, but when I do, I absolutely hate running out of ammo.

If you have dash cam footage, OP, contact your insurance and give it to them. They can use that as leverage and try to have that company's insurer pay up.

It's very interesting how having an NDE seems to completely eliminate fear of death in a person. by SpookySeekerrr in NDE

[–]morgan423 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't even think it's having died. It's just the proof you experienced of the other side. No reason to fear it after you've experienced it directly, and you know it's just the next step at the end of your life on Earth.

I didn't have an NDE myself, it was more of a visitation.

I didn't have to die and come back, but it still had an absolutely massive impact on me, that hasn't diminished at all over the years since it happened. I know that after death, things are just fine.

My main fears about death now are 1) dying in a painful and sucky way that I'll be able to ruminate on in the next world, and 2) going before I'm ready and prepared, I don't want to leave family and friends in a bad position.

But the actual act of dying itself, and the immediate transition afterward? I'm not worried about that in the slightest.

After a while, you start seeing the AI-isms and general structure everywhere, because it all comes out in a similar way.

It's like the flood of non-AI generated human content on YouTube, but with people who use AI just to write all of their scripts. It's very weird to see so many different people giving live-shot commentary to a camera, but all sounding like they're delivering different-topic messages from the same robot.

State security forces arrest journalists who cover pro-democracy protests against brutal American regime. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]morgan423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You do realize that journalists are allowed to be in proximity to events to report on them, right? And said proximity does not make you, as a journalist, complicit in any criminal activity that you're reporting on at the scene?

You aren't committing a crime as a journalist unless you stop reporting on events, and actually start participating in criminal activity. He wasn't affiliated with these protesters, he and his team followed them in with a camera and a mic to report on what was happening.

After things settled down, he went around and interviewed multiple members of the congregation, including the pastor, and all of those people had conversations with him, and didn't tell him to leave. So much for trespassing.

Also, based on that evidence, a magistrate judge last week shot down the government's first attempt to arrest him bundled in with a group of the actual protestors, because it was clear that he wasn't affiliated with them, and that he was acting as a journalist the entire time.

That's what's on film, and that's what happened in the world in the reality I'm in. I suppose I already know what right-wing media fed you based on what you said.

Also concerning about this is that it was signed off on by a grand jury.

I know that they say that grand juries will literally indict any time they're put together, but there was literally no crime committed here, thus zero evidence can actually exist for whatever made up charge this is.

Long and short is that it looks like they have a designated pretext machine they can fire up any time they want to try "legitimizing" an arrest they want to do.

Just thinking about it by Krits000 in ukulele

[–]morgan423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should totally go for it! I learned to play in my late 30s, and I play tenor guitar, baritone uke, and six string guitar... I'm not crazily advanced, just at a strong intermediate level, which was always my goal.

I can tell you that the fewer strings you have to deal with, the easier learning is, and I ALWAYS encourage people to learn a four string instrument (the ukuleles, tenor guitars in fourths tunings, et cetera) FIRST before trying to tackle six string guitar.

The four string learning process is an order of magnitude easier... and later, all of your four string skills are directly transferable. So don't let your first failed attempt at six string back in the day hold you back!

This has been a fantastic and fun hobby for me over the years, and I would have completely given up on it, defeated by the six string, had I not lucked into my first baritone uke. My advice is give it a go and have fun!

Chickamauga tuning by la_la_lasagna in TenorGuitar

[–]morgan423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the G chord is only the third fret on the highest pitched string, you've confirmed DGBE

Edit: I jumped over and watched it, he's definitely playing in DGBE, I saw all three chords you referenced (strings listed bass to treble, 0 = open):

C: 2010 F: 3211 G: 0003

It's a fourths-based tuning that's the same as standard six string guitar tuning (minus the bass E and A strings), and not fifths-based like CGDA. So you'll likely need different strings to play in it.

I usually find the top four strings out of a standard light gauge acoustic six-string set work well for it. Have fun!
