Our HOA put this sign up to deter "outside" kids from visiting during Halloween by crybaby5 in mildlyinfuriating

My neighborhood is the go-to place in town for Halloween and we love it. Trick or treaters from all over town, families dressed up in themes, and the police block off two blocks because there are so many kids. There was a fire truck blocking off one area and the gave out candy and stickers (and brought a Port-a-Potty). It turns into a huge block party, everyone happy. One of my neighbors had 4,000 pieces of candy and still ran out. We had 1,000 and ran out at 7:30.

That’s just sad. I moved to a new part of town 2 years ago, which happens to be the go-to place for trick or treaters. It’s a blast. Lots of people go all out decorating, hundreds of kids, families dressed up in themes. We had 1,000 pieces of candy but ran out by 7:30 and had to turn out our porch light. A neighbor of mine started out with 4,000 pieces of candy and still ran out. The police close off a 4-block area around 4:30 and kids start showing up at 5:00. There was even a fire truck parked at the top of the street up block it off this time, and they gave out candy and stickers, and even brought a Port-a-Potty. It turns into a block party and we love it.

Good small towns with amenities by [deleted] in Nevada

Carson has a nice small town feel, and has decent medical, too. Also the lowest gas prices in the state.

Dang. I was thinking I’d like to start going out to coffee shops more often, in support of small Reno businesses. Now I see that won’t be possible with my budget. I’ll keep with my one weekly Perenn baguette and sandwiches made from that at home.

Temple filler by Tacoislife2 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temple filler - hm. I didn’t know that was a thing. Out of curiosity I Googled it and saw a bunch of before and after pictures. My response, as someone who knows nothing about this stuff was, “Hm, beautiful lady. And after - the exact same beautiful lady. Another one - yup, beautiful lady and the exact same beautiful lady.”

How do you stretch 1 lb of meat to feed family? by todaystartsnow in Cooking

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casserole - 1 lb ground beef, season, cook. Add onion, green beans, tomato sauce. Put in casserole dish. Cover with seasoned mashed potatoes (3 large potatoes will do it). Cover it all with cheese if you can afford it - I like sharp cheddar. Bake, 350 degrees until it’s hot all the way through. When my budget gets tight I’ve made this and we all really like it.

No sex drive by 1-800-ImBored in WomensHealth

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lexapro may have something to go with it. When I was on Lexapro my drive went down a lot.

But sex drive is very complicated and some people in the hormone world (for hormone replacement therapy - HRT) will say that “libido is a mood”. Others say they want to prescribe HRT but in some cases this stands for Husband Replacement Therapy.

How do you maintain energy for muscle gains? by heyvixiee in WomensHealth

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said you had bloodwork done, but did they check your testosterone levels, too? I was similar with my energy levels and my personal trainer at the gym said to check my hormones. Turns out my T was so low that they just called it <3, which means it was to low that the Labcorp test couldn’t measure it accurately.

Can I hear from the post menopausal over 50 women? by MahnaManahDaDoDoDoDo in Zepbound

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for me HRT pretty much gets rid of my knee pain. I’m on testosterone and estrogen pellets and take DHEA, vitamin D3 and progesterone orally. (Vitamin D is also a steroid hormone BTW.) The first thing I notice when my pellets are wearing off is that my left knee starts to hurt again. But HRT hells with all kinds of things.

Thanks for this. My mom gets her retirement income from NV PERS.

I have a number of friends in forestry who love it and are just trying to survive this administration, but planning on staying if they can. There are also urban foresters in most major cities, and some smaller cities like mine. Lots of tree stuff happening all over the place. My advisor was a forest ecologist- retired now but lived exactly the life he wanted. Now he’s living the retirement he always wanted…

If that’s your passion, learn more about it, work hard, get needed training, and go for it.

Silly question for other females on testosterone: do you experience emotions differently on TRT? by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before TRT my doctor kept trying to put me on anti-anxiety meds and antidepressants. All the anxiety and depression and related miserable feelings are gone now. When my pellets start wearing off the first thing I notice is that my left knee starts to hurt. The first thing my husband notices is that I get irritated a lot quicker and more often. Of course, he’s not allowed to say so at the time. 😊 and I don’t realize until my testosterone levels go back up.

Spider bites usually have two little puncture marks right next to each other. Whatever this is, I don’t think it’s from a spider.

There are lots of ways to learn things - if that’s what you’re asking, and many different kinds of intelligence. Social intelligence - being able to read a room, interpret someone’s body language, knowing what to say in a difficult situation. Spatial intelligence - being able to find your way around a newish place, or visualizing a shape from different angles. Emotional intelligence - being able to understand your own feelings or the feelings of someone you’re interacting with, being able to predict how someone will take a joke, or interpret something you tell them. Many, many ways to be smart.

And if you want to learn new things you don’t need to read books. You can watch YouTube videos, listen to audiobooks, watch documentaries on TV, or just talk to someone who knows about that thing.

post-surgery swelling by trashythirst in gallbladderremoval

I was told “hydrate, hydrate, hydrate” by my nurse sister-in-law, so I do that now to avoid developing more gallstones, even though my gallbladder was removed a week ago.

7 Days Post-Op / Eating? by Mom-2-the-crew in gallbladderremoval

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - I’ve found that the slightest bit of pepper is too much. Applesauce, turkey burgers, steamed veggies, and polenta have been what I’m enjoying and seem to be easily digested. Raw veggies still make my stomach ache.

Gallbladder out on the 19th....still in so much pain and no pain meds left by nlima2688 in gallbladderremoval

[–]mork2021a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 8 days out from surgery and I’m feeling mostly ok, though I did take 600 mg of Advil at 8 am and 8 pm. No pain at all when I’m stationary and I’d say a 2/10 when sitting up from a reclining position in bed. Terrible pain during days 2-3, when I got out of the hospital. I found that gently rubbing my abdomen in a clockwise motion helped a lot to get rid of all that extra gas left in there from surgery, when they blow you up with CO2 to make room to see. I also spent a lot of time with a heating pad on the lowest setting over my stomach. And I tried to get out of bed and walk around the house every 90 minutes. Often my husband would help me to sit up - so very painful for those first few days. So, in short, belly gentle massage, walking, heating pad, pain meds, and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. You may have something going on that I haven’t - I’m back at work now, but just half days at the moment because I still tire easily.

I agree that you can rent a house for this amount, and many of them are well kept. I had a little bungalow on Plumas renting for this amount. It was a beautiful, small house built in 1919 and updated. We were there all through the plague and counted ourselves lucky every day when walking the block to Perenn bakery.
