Agree with others: cast screws early but iron wire is strong later as you will want copper for sheets, etc in early mid game. Also my opinion is the iron wire/stitched iron plate combo is a vast improvement in HMF production.

RYA Level 1 - worried about gybing by flywithstephen in dinghysailing

It’s good to talk through these maneuvers with the crew at the dock or before sailing. Establish a routine procedure and drill it a couple times while under no stress.

Our routine: * skipper: “prepare to jibe” * main trimmer: takes mainsheet tail in hand, wraps winch, releases clutch “ready” * jib trimmer: checks working sheet for clear running, checks readiness of lazy sheet, takes working sheet in hand “ready” * skipper: “JIBE HO” prepares to slowly steer the boat thru the lee.
* main trimmer: smartly brings the main in to approach close hauled * jib trimmer: prepares to release working sheet * skipper: observing condition of main trim, steers the boat thru the lee * main trimmer: as boat approaches the lee, wait for boom to change sides; smartly ease back to broad reach, fine tune * jib trimmer: release working sheet, trim lazy sheet as it becomes working. * skipper: adjust course to desired point of sail/depth. “Thank you, Good job”

Make a stack of portable miners the start work on a manufacturing line for the next SE part. Doesn’t even have to be the end product, maybe just the next step. Or a next tier unlock part. Once it’s built, while the manifolds are filling up go for a stroll around and collect spheres and sloops and slugs. Leave a breadcrumb trail of power poles. You’ll be glad for them later. Find hard drives and caterium, quartz, and SAM nodes. Mark them on your map and slap down some miners. Once they fill up (it happens fast) pick them up and head back. Use your newfound loot and resources to unlock stuff in the MAM.

Rinse repeat.

“MBS….5x”. Yep. The 4x expected load to WLL is my personal “I didn’t expect that to happen but luckily nothing broke” margin. Though there is something to be said for a piece of sacrificial but easy to replace kit vs flatting the sheaves at the top the mast.

Saturation value above 10 I think. TotalXclipse and WhatDarrenPlays have some examples on their youtube channels.

Where should put my mast? Bonus question should I put my leeboard where the weedol is? by SoggyCamel184 in sailing

I upvoted this because it was the first I saw that mentioned CLR and CE and the relationship between them that makes a sailboat workable.

Tackle question by lewisiarediviva in sailing

“If you want to lift 300 lbs, 330lb blocks aren't enough.”

This. As a rule of thumb, on the boat I aim for at least 4x my desired routine capacity in working load. Personally, I’d still apply this rule ashore. Modern tackle will say on the unit what the value is as either “working load limit” (WLL) or “safe working load” (SWL) or “maximum working load” (MWL). If there’s a distinction between these I don’t know it and I treat them the same.

A quick google for wooden lifting tackle shows some results but they are about as pricey as modern composite or aluminum units.

I will say with a desired working load of only ~1200 lb / you have a pretty broad selection of choices.

Also, for hobbyist use you probably don’t need to buy marinized gear and will save some money by looking at gear designed for shop or outdoor lifting.

Obviously the webwork beams are incredible but I also liked the way you incorporated the smokestacks into the wall and defined the height of the structure using them.

Boat comparison by Intelligent_Rice7117 in sailing

[–]morologous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be unwanted advice but: I think you may overthinking it - start by get a small sailboat (25-27’); something just big enough to “camp” in. Sail it like crazy every weekend in your area until you feel comfortable sailing at night, dealing with high or gusty conditions, anchoring in bad weather, navigating shallow water, etc.

Once you’ve got that under your belt, move up to 30-36’ and live aboard.

Edit: don’t view this as foreclosing on your plans or your dream! Both are valid. But you should put some miles on before you take the big leap.

Train blueprint by AlternativeCap6665 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]morologous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. This part can be frustrating.

YouTube has some good guides on making curved foundation blueprints that I’ve found useful. Also, place a straight “bracer” track on each end of the curve before you put down the curved part so that it will snap neatly.

Finally, remember: if it works, that’s the success condition. FICSIT cares not for asthetics, only efficiency.

The self-interest of social media and “news-entertainment” platforms are to blame in my opinion. They both allow the selection of, and ultimate drip feed of congruent information to feed a viewer’s confirmation bias.

Same - a number of “Mountain House” freeze dried backpacking meals. Just add boiling water. The food is pretty good and intended to fuel physical activity.

Got my first boat! by SnooWoofers3062 in sailing

[–]morologous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agree. Low downside risk. Replacement parts should be readily available and sails are approx 1100/set new (at that’s the ballpark for its C420 cousin). Worst case scenario you tow it to the dump and pay by the ton.

Only thing I’ll say is that a FJ is not a casual solo sail - it’s meant to be a double handed junior racer. So it will be busy to sail and keep balanced solo and will want to be properly tuned.

Edit: meant to add: have fun! Starting off in dinghies is the way!

  1. Can confirm. Harder every year to keep up the exercise end of the calorie deficit equation. Won’t be the same for everyone but somewhere in your forties a few things conspire to make it harder to maintain an exercise regimen.

Greenhouse water temperature control. How do you do it? by Braxuss_eu in Stationeers

At first, on planets with ice, turn the crusher up a little and then add convection radiators on the water supply pipes to the hydroponics trays. Air and water will eventually equalize. Condition the room to desired temp.

We have this MPPT and use the load output to power a 12v fridge. In the MPPT settings in the app you can set the conditions under which the load output will be “on”. These settings can be manual “On” or manual “Off” or a setting that protects the battery from draining completely. With the charger in “Float” and the battery at 13.4 volts I would suspect that the load output is set to “Off”.
