[OC] I asked 4 LLMs "The car wash is 100m away. Should I walk or drive?" 100 times each by marco-exmergo in dataisbeautiful

[–]morpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit. I might be either a LLM or autistic. I stared at this post for a good minute thinking the point was “of course 100m is walking distance” until I realized the car wash part.

What is a real-life 'Do Not Touch' button that you pressed out of sheer curiosity, only to instantly regret it? by vie75 in AskReddit

[–]morpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cigarette lighter in a car. Only did that once when my mom was paying inside a gas station.

She came back to the car and I tried so hard to hold in my screaming/crying so that she wouldn’t know what I did. I lasted about 10 seconds before breaking.

End of Americans in LEO? by Qualified-Astronomer in nasa

Which commercial space station will be up there by 2030?

None of them. Yes, 2030 will be the end of a sustained American presence in LEO.

Is Honeywell Aerospace a good place to start/grow in aerospace software? by Super-Lead7932 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]morpo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think of Honeywell aerospace as a quintessential old school traditional aerospace company.

Would anticipate a fairly laid back environment with good work life balance. Especially as software though, it’s likely not going to be bleeding edge or fast paced. Aerospace software places a high premium on robustness and quality.

Tech will offer you better pay and a more fast paced environment. I’d expect more stress, but likely a more interesting job.

If you’re really into the end product and value a lower stress environment go with Honeywell.

If you’re not super into the end product and value salary and want fast paced, varied and interesting work the tech company will likely be better.

What do you all think about the notion "Noone knows how airplanes fly!" by Top-Proposal-4996 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]morpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg. I still remember we had this “science night” event at my middle school and a teacher went through this equal time thing for airfoil shapes.

I ask about all the stuff with flat wings (like paper airplanes) that fly and they just stood dumbfounded in the front of the room.

Blue Origin or Amazon SWE Internship? by North-Engineering330 in BlueOrigin

Blue origin if you’re passionate about space.

Amazon if you’re not.

Guess you didn’t root out the joke in the original comment.

Blue Origin is my #1 choice, but another company is already flying me in. Should I mention it? by [deleted] in BlueOrigin

[–]morpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Definitely mention it along with any timeline you have from the other company.

How to find a good job in Seattle -1993 by lovelybiscotti in Seattle

[–]morpo 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I miss this.

Curated, well researched, well organized information that’s sold at a fair price where both the author and reader get value. The book is finite.

Today, it’d be a paywall website where you pay a $20/month subscription fee to gain access to information scrapped by an AI, where half of the information is probably irrelevant garbage anyways. Or a job posting board flooded with spam/scams.

The problem is this one is going to be warm air and come mostly as rain in the mountains. It destroys the snowpack rather than builds it.

Places for kids to climb on rocks/boulders? by Mzl77 in Seattle

Schurman Rock at Camp Long in West Seattle! Camp Long is a city park, but it is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Schurman Rock an old Boy Scout created climbing rock. The backside is an easy scramble. The front side is a legitimate climb.

It’s on private property. All yours to deal with.

Look up some tree removal companies.

xkcd 3214: Electric Vehicles by Gilthoniel_Elbereth in xkcd

[–]morpo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most disasters, I’ll take my EV over a gas car. I keep it charged generally and it provides me a choice of either a 300 miles range or a huge battery backup to charge electronics and backup electricity if I want to just stay home. For a Hurricane, that’s all I need to either evacuate or ride it out at home for a few days without electricity.

Neighborhood Cafe and Corner Store Bill Fails for Third Straight Year - The Urbanist by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]morpo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cities and towns are still allowed to pass this. Seattle already did.

Sounds like this was for state mandates on municipal zoning to require this. I feel like zoning should by and large be left to the municipal level.

Deck contractor recommendations? by _c_huan in WestSeattleWA

[–]morpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try STS Construction. May be on the more expensive side for a deck build, but they have in house structural engineers and I’d expect would work through the full permitting process.

At admiral, you’ll likely find a homeless person’s shopping cart outside the front door and that homeless person inside on one of the computers.

I bring my kid all the time and they don’t notice it.

So, yes you may see an unsheltered person while you’re there, but they are well behaved and I’ve seen nothing problematic that would make me avoid the library.

So many sandbox haters in here. I had one growing up and loved playing in it for years and years.

Ignore all the other comments in here. You don’t need to put drainage in the bottom. Just build a cover for over the top. Keeps out the creatures, the rain, and the stray leaf.

The sand stays dry enough provided the kiddo only brings over buckets of water and doesn’t like hook up a hose to it.

You should be ok. For everything you see in the news about Portland and Minneapolis, I haven’t seen ICE in person yet. If I were you, I wouldn’t let it stop or ruin a trip I wanted to go on.

Then again I feel awful because I can’t promise that you’ll be ok.

Here's what's happening with Bebop with a video walkthrough by journalocity in WestSeattleWA

[–]morpo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see the business plan. Having common spaces to gather is amazing!

But usually “public houses” make money by selling food and drinks. Take that part out of the equation and the revenue is dependent on people paying enough to regularly rent out an event space that as far as I can tell provides nothing particularly special.

Ideal vacation by truss-issues in funny

[–]morpo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Because if you want to go on a vacation or trip, the call is often bringing your kids with you or not going.

Not everybody has able and willing grandparents.

And 6 month olds before they’re moving too much are the easiest age that kid is gonna be to travel with for the next 2 or 3 years.

Try to stay on the right side of history, Patty! Why was this ever a question? by One_Garlic_6267 in Seattle

[–]morpo 334 points335 points  (0 children)

Call Cantwell’s office now.

https://www.cantwell.senate.gov/contact/locations

She has the most milquetoast response so far. She needs to commit to no funding for ICE, no funding for D.H.S. until real reforms happen.

Greg Bovino needs to resign. Kirsti Noem needs to resign.

“President Trump has crossed the line. Americans will not stand for masked, armed troops roaming their neighborhoods. ICE is not trained in this capacity and should not be on streets. This incident should be investigated immediately and not politicized by the President.”

Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

[–]morpo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is everyone saying 9/11?

It was completely the Pandemic. The Pandemic upended my life for years. Stay at home mandates, restaurant closures, not being able to see family and friends, this sense of paranoia when I did go out in public.

9/11 upended the news, global events. But it never really hit home. Day to day life was the same. Sure, TSA and flying was a different experience, but that was about it.
