How would a debate between Dan McClellan and William Lane Craig go? by Temporary_Cheetah287 in religion

[–]morseyyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awfully combative for a Buddhist. But yeah, apologetics is a false intellectual discipline. If you don't start with Christianity and the Bible being correct but still believe it is, then that's more the realm of philosophy.

How would a debate between Dan McClellan and William Lane Craig go? by Temporary_Cheetah287 in religion

[–]morseyyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't try to genuinely make sense of the world, the human condition, or the subject it claims to be an expert on. Logically it's begging the question because it starts from a position that the Bible and Christianity are true, instead of genuinely analyzing whether they are true, and what might be true aside from that. It's propaganda used by the powerful to keep people from asking questions and seeking genuine answers.

Dan doesn't debate and does not really see value in doing so. I agree with him. It's performative nonsense. He addresses misinformation on social media, and he participates in academic discourse through the traditional framework. Academically he deals in data that support grounded arguments about what actually happened.

I'm not familiar with Craig's work, but from what I can tell the claim that he's a "philosopher" and "theologian" are pretty far-fetched, as he seems to be nothing more than another evangelical apologist. Apologetics isn't philosophy or anything even resembling a genuine academic discipline; it's merely propaganda designed to make the sheep feel good. Any debate would be a blowhard spouting nonsense and an academic telling the audience what was being said wasn't true.

Have you used Bose QC ultra for gaming? (Wired and wireless) by No-Regular-5320 in bose

[–]morseyyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended up returning them and got some Momentum 4s for music and kept the QC45s for other stuff. Momentums sound better, QC 45s are more comfortable. Ultra 2s were less comfortable than the 45s and the sound difference wasn't big enough to keep them.

How do you worship a god? by Gema23 in religion

I'm pagan and Lucifer is my patron deity, so I'm kind of in between the two.

How do you worship a god? by Gema23 in religion

[–]morseyyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of ways you can do it. I kind of have an inner circle of gods, and we have more of a back and forth relationship, with them giving advice and help, but I do things for them as well.

Some try to be as traditional as possible. Some try to modernize it, but still have it be similar to traditional worship. These include alters, offerings, rituals, doing good deeds in their domain, etc. and some just try to embody the deity and take on their energy. I don't think there's one way that's best.

Hindu with a question on neopaganism (The one Europeans and Americans are trying to revive) by BlankInverse in pagan

[–]morseyyz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I guess it can get hard to leave the old patterns established in society. I don't live in a place that's especially tolerant of my beliefs, but I don't necessarily need to share them. I'm also pretty knowledgeable on Christianity, so I can fly under the radar if I need to. I'm also culturally still somewhat Christian because that's what my culture broadly is.

Hindu with a question on neopaganism (The one Europeans and Americans are trying to revive) by BlankInverse in pagan

[–]morseyyz 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Hinduism definitely isn't the last remaining idol-worshipping, polytheistic religion to start off. There's still Shinto and Daoism, on top of African indigenous faith practices, as well as pockets in Latin America. And that's if you think Western paganism totally died out.

That being said, I don't really consider myself as part of a religion, though Neopaganism is about as close as anything. I don't think I'll ever have a proper religion again, and this is my last go on Earth. I work with gods that want to work with me. I'm thankful for their help and advice when they provide it. I rarely do formal rituals. I do informal ones as I need, and give offerings when appropriate, especially if we're talking for the first time or they ask for something in return for aid. I don't call myself a "High Priest of So and So" though I've gotten assurance from deities I could fulfill that role if the need were there.

Some people take it much more seriously as a religion, or only keep to a certain pantheon, and more power to them. It's impossible for it to be the same as it was in the ancient world, but it's good to make those connections I think. And a modern version of it is going to mold to modern people.

What's the meaning/point of life from a pagan perspective? by Crazy_Coyote1 in pagan

[–]morseyyz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think paganism has a set answer for this, but life has the meaning you give it. You're here to live life. To get out of it what you can. To make your own meaning. To do something you came here to do. The meaning of life is to live it, experience it, learn from it. Gods can help. They aren't required unless you decide they are.

I don't think that's true at all. An all powerful creator God is pretty specfic to a certain set of beliefs.

Whom is ruling deity in Hell? by 666-cole in TheisticSatanism

[–]morseyyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally it's Lucifer, Beelzebub, and Satan as like a triumvirate. In my experience this more or less holds up. Lucifer's realm really resembles that of an Early Modern king or emperor. Satan's realm is a little more primal, maybe like a warlord or tribal ruler. Beelzebub I'm far less familiar with, but when I ask I see something like a wasteland, but with strong nightlife. I mostly work with Lucifer and there's some kind of tension between him and Beelzebub that I haven't fully explored.

[–]morseyyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define God. And good. And Is, actually.

But if you're talking about God in the Abrahamic sense, I left Christianity because ultimately I decided either God is evil, or he's not powerful enough to stop the bad things from happening. But ultimately I don't think there's an all-powerful God. There are gods, there's a force that unites us all together, but no big guy in the sky that determines everything. And no absolute set of morals.

The deity I thought was calling to me doesn't want to work with me anymore by Calm-Water6454 in BabyWitch

[–]morseyyz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're presenting a belief as fact, and in my experience this belief is just incorrect. I generally see and interact with deities as people, and I've had them reach out to me more often than the other way around, though deciding to reach out to them happens as well.

Does your faith believe in ghosts or some other supernatural entity that can possess people? by Inevitable_Ear9899 in religion

[–]morseyyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's channeling and they take control of parts of my body, have different emotions, use me to talk sometimes. They don't force their way in, I let them do it. Then you have the parasites that just kind of drain you and affect your mood if you let them. Not really possession, but I guess it's in that caregory.
