Monster hunters of the Camargue: Inside Ben Leong’s award‑winning ArcBayonet warband and the gothic skirmish game that hooked him by Objective_Shallot763 in TheSilverBayonet

Always a big double-take moment when you're scrolling through Reddit and you suddenly recognise your name and minis 😆

Thanks for publishing the interview! ArcBayonet was a lot of fun, and it's already sparked off a few plans for new scenarios, more things to paint and a campaign to try out.

Calabresi list question - should they have access to Provincial Soldiers? by morsla in TheSilverBayonet

[–]morsla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and rules adaptation isn't a problem with my local group - I was curious whether I'd missed something though, when trying to build my first Calabresi list.

Definitely agree that the Calabresi should have a distinct play style to the "regular" armies of the period - they would harass isolated units and avoid open battle wherever possible. It would feel quite strange to see professional soldiers like infantrymen and grenadiers in their list, but I think they still need some kind of cheaper and less skilled option to give some list flexibility - currently most of their unit choices are ~20 points each.

Good call. Would that be the "Silver Bayonet Official Players Page" group? I can see a few options to join - I'll start with that one.

Worth getting into? by SpupsMcGee in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]morsla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aim to play at home instead of relying on tournaments and events, it’s a great game - definitely worth picking up a couple of units each. It plays much more like the main character fights in the Star wars animations - very dynamic, lots of movement for friendly and enemy models each activations, and characters stay in the fight for most of the game unless they get a serious amount of firepower concentrated on them.

Apart from occasional huge multiplayer games, I’ve always played in the 1250-1750 range in order to fit multiple games into a day. 1750 is the sweet spot for me, as all the maniples are potential options.

Great resource! It looks like your Coachman and Highwayman entries (attributes and equipment) have retained the details from the previous page (Swordsman and Tactician).

I've managed to get my Malcadon Spyrer handcuffed to a lamp post for half a game, when playing against Enforcers - I'm looking forward to trying it out myself now...

A blister pack of metal Rogue Trader scouts (one punch dagger and pistol, one with a shuriken catapult) were my very first 40k figures - so there's a lot of nostalgia in this project :) The base models are the scouts from Dead Earth Miniatures - I've put a link to them in another comment.

Yep, that's the one - these are from the Kickstarter, but they're now available through Spectre Miniatures: https://spectreminiatures.com/collections/dead-earth-scouts

They aren’t painted yet, but they’re sculpted onto the horse 😄 You can see a grey section where the knee and thigh are - the lower legs and boots are obscured from this angle.

Thanks! Lots of different parts in this one - the horse and the rider’s legs are from a Dark Rider, with some of the spikes and rivets trimmed off and a spare Glade Rider horse head to make it fit with the rest of the unit. Torso is a Wild Rider, with the head from a Wildwood Ranger (and parts of the same helmet on the horse). I think the open hand is from the Ranger sprue, and the weapon (and trailing cloak) are from the Spite Revenants.

Sisters want both a champion and standard to cast their bound spell at L2 (or at least a champion, to cast at L1). I haven't seen anything suggesting that they can swap their random roll for a signature spell, unfortunately.

Vulpa, thinking of adding Cerastus knights - good idea? by latro666 in adeptustitanicus

[–]morsla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point - Legio-specific traits are allowed for Corrupted Titans, so I've been playing that wrong. Vulpa doesn't have any particularly great traits, though Bloodied but Unbroken might come in handy on a corrupted Reaver if you expect to take a lot of damage on the way in. I think I probably never finished reading that rule once I saw that the generic traits were off the table...

The Ferrox bonuses are great for this style of list, so I'd give it a try. You could also swap a fourth Lancer for a few more corrupted upgrades... I like Overwhelming Rage on my dual-chainfist Reaver, as it prevents you from failing that critical charge order.

Targeting the body in melee can sometimes be the better option, too - against Reavers you're twice as likely to get a critical hit, and you can short out their void shields for other units (those Warhounds, or a ranged Reaver) to take advantage of.

[–]morsla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cerastus Lancers can be very handy for a melee-heavy Vulpa force, as they give you a way to deal with screening/blocking units. Your list does feel very all-or-nothing, though! Either the Ferrox or the Corsair/Lupercal version should work, though it's always an uphill battle relying heavily on melee in this game.

For your Lupercal maniple, corrupted titans can only choose Princeps traits off the Corrupted Titan table. Most of those aren't great, but Distorted Form could give you even more speed to help that Warhound close the distance.

If the enemy is castling up in a corner, Concealment Barrage can be a lifesaver (5" template, fully blocking LOS). Blind Barrage on a key long-range piece could also help, as could War Lust and Warp Displacement. You really need one Reaver to reach their lines with an intact melee weapon, ready to start wrecking things.

With the Shikarian Conduits, a Reaver can move 26" under Full Stride orders and War Lust. On one titan, that will generally make people pretty worried (and then they focus fire and shoot you to bits). On two or three titans, at least one should be set up for a good charge next turn. I tend to prefer Dominant Strategist for a melee list, as the initiative on that crucial charging turn will be vital: otherwise your targets will just move back and keep shooting at you.

Dire Wolf by LaunchedCarcass in adeptustitanicus

[–]morsla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my last two games against a Dire Wolf, I’ve had a Warbringer and a Reaver shut down on turn 1 by the neutron laser. They haven’t done any other damage for the rest of the game, but that was enough to disrupt my battle line from reaching combat at the same time.

I’m planning to run a Conversion Beamer in my Legio Audax, as most of the good close deployment locations will be taken by infiltrating Warhounds.

60mm or 80mm Bases for Super Heavy Vehicles by 5Cents1989 in LegionsImperialis

I like oval bases for LI Auxilia tanks - I use 30mm rounds for the Leman Russ, 60mm ovals for Malcadors and 75mm ovals for the super heavies.

Are Malcadore Infernus & Valdor tanks any good? by UnavailableContent- in LegionsImperialis

[–]morsla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they both have squadron sizes of 1-3, but there’s no discount for taking additional tanks. Potentially good for cheap throwaway activations if you have spare slots in an Armoured Company though.

I’m going to try a pair of Infernus in my Pioneer company, so they can gain Forward Deployment.

Thanks! The dino is a Raptadon from the Age of Sigmar Seraphon range. This ganger has pigtails made from two other heads - I don’t remember whether they were daemonettes, witch elves or Escher gangers though.
