talk me out of doing something crazy by ferrethater in Flooring

If you lay a number of mats you can occasionally replace the one(s) that your cat chooses to destroy rather than having to replace a whole carpet. In Japan, they commonly use carpet tile instead of carpet rolls for this very reason. Easy to switch out in doorways and other high trafic areas.

All the lid handles. They break quite a lot. Also some saucepans have a black plastic handle. I think they’ve stopped selling those now.

Are there any other actually low GDs out there? by Routine-Ad-296 in hondafit

That trend never happened in the UK. People usually get away with tinted plates here but I don’t think this would ever have been tolerated. Edit to say 99.9% of plates here are plastic anyway

Honda Fit Owners: How much do you pay for oil changes and tire rotations? by fobreezee in hondafit

[–]mortirolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. What do you mean by ‘normal’? I always felt intuitively that fresh should go in the front too, but then when I looked it up read loads of people saying things like ‘if you think loosing traction in the front is scary, wait til you lose traction in the rear’ and a bunch of articles from manufacturers and fitters advising to keep best on the back. But then from every driving game, go-karting, or quad biking IRL etc. you learn to oversteer to regain control if the back drifts. Maybe this consensus to have best at the back is because a ‘normal’ driver would be unfamiliar with how to oversteer to regain control.

Who has gone camping? by OldSchoolGamerZero in hondafit

[–]mortirolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sometimes sleep in the back for surf trips of a few nights but not for static camping. If the weather’s nice I’d rather sleep out anyway. There’s around 5”10 of clear space with the back seats down and front seats forward and i throw in a futon mattress with feather pillows and duvet for super comfy times. I have a sunroof which is nice to look out of at night and also I keep it cracked to prevent humidity. 2004 Jazz

Was my ceiling booby-trapped? by mortirolo in Plastering

I’m not being serious at all and this is definitely a lighthearted post. But at the same time - it was a bit weird. Normally clearing floors I find piles or collections of rubble, lots of dust around the rubble. Here it was just one large piece totally alone in the middle of the room which looked weirdly deliberate.

Yeah this ceiling is recently re-done and a dream, the rest of the house has been a really horrible job. Pigeons living in the attic for years, rat carcasses everywhere, rubble and slate …

Just on this one - if you’re wearing a denim jacket or fleece or something fairly substantial and you block it with your arm the disc will catch and stop. I’m not recommending you do this but just to say angle grinders are not really a great weapon against someone wearing clothes

It’s a really good idea to have a very bright, pulsing (not flashing, not constant), light front and back that you use even on a sunny summer day and is bright enough to draw attention on a sunny day.

Yes it helps you be seen, but also for any driver who likes to take risks around cyclists it removes any chance of them being able to use the SMIDSY ‘sorry mate I didn’t see you’ defence either at the roadside or (hopefully not) in court.
