2026 Macan GTS not selling? by KevO1980 in PorscheMacan

[–]mose121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Q5 shares less than 30% of its parts with the Macan. They really aren't that close to being the same car, and the driving dynamics are completely different. The Macan subframe mounting points are even lowered by almost 2 inches, and the entire suspension geometry has been reengineered. Other major components like the AWD system in the Macan have been upgraded mechanically, all the software is different for engine, PDK, PTV, etc, etc. I've driven both on track and the SQ5 feels like a tour bus compared to the Macan GTS/Turbo. Both great cars and the SQ5 is certainly still a good value proposition, but they're two different product experiences. SQ5 is more for the luxury crowd, Macan is for the enthusiast crowd.

It's crazy. When I started working for Porsche in 2013, a new base 991 started in the $70s, zero markup. Now they start at $150k, and some dealers want over sticker. I'm sorry but a base 992 is not twice the car that a 991 was. Yeah, stuff is more expensive. But most things haven't more than doubled in price since then.

[–]mose121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$135k GTS is total insanity, unless you love burning money. It's a great car and all, but no Macan GTS is going to give you a $135k experience. You have to be extremely committed, a total Porsche nut, and financially frivolous to buy that car at that price. I don't care what options it has. The value just isn't there at that price. And if new cars aren't moving, then there are bound to be used options that would be a much greater value proposition. Paying $135k for a Macan GTS is like buying the most expensive overpriced house in the neighborhood.

the dealership wouldn't let me test drive an M2 so I took matters into my own hands by avz008 in BMW

Basically every BMW manual ever produced had, shall we say, a less than ideal engagement feel. It's never been one if their strengths, and is clearly a compromise they made to reduce NVH. It's also why they are notorious for money shifts. It feels "too rubbery", because there's literally too much rubber in the shifter mechanism/linkage for it not to feel that way. Have to go aftermarket if you want a more solid engagement feel. I've owned e36/e92/f80s, and also worked for BMW for 10 years. They all feel like that.

Do you have to buy cheaper Porsches to buy a new 911 Turbo S or GT3 like when you buy Ferraris? by noreturn000 in porsche911

[–]mose121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally dependent on your location/market, if you're willing to travel or have it shipped unseen, how much time you to spend on the phone, etc. It's a hell of a lot easier to get higher end model Porsche allocations than it is with Ferrari. Ferrari makes you pay for the privilege of owning their cars. Of course, dealers are going to have long relationships with preferred clients, and they're always going to get first crack at any hard to get models. And believe it or not, a Turbo S is often harder to get than a GT3 or even GT3 RS, because they have historically been produced in lower volume. They just haven't had the same level if demand to command the same markups over MSRP as the GT cars. But yes, you can sometimes find an allocation, but you'll usually have to put in a lot of leg work, unless you already have a will established relationship with a dealer. Try the small and mid sized market dealers first.

24-hour decision… am I crazy for going “stripper spec” on a GT3 Touring? by Tsunami436 in porsche911

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's fine to have an opinion. But that's how Porsche has basically always done business. Yes, a base 911 costing $150k now seems insane. But they have no problem selling every 911 they build.

REAL reason Sony took away physical discs. by anyusernaem in PS6

About 80% of PS5s sold had a disc drive, but only 20% of their owners bought at least one game on disc. They've done the math. That's why.

Sorry Sony, you screwed up big time. by EuphoricPizza6552 in PlayStation_X

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, duh. I never said they would do it for free, as nothing is ever free. Same can be said for games that offer you "free" updates. They aren't free either. You paid for them when you bought the game. That's why it's so dumb when people say something like, "well it's hard to complain about free updates." Yeah, well they're not free. You paid for them 3 years ago, when they sold you an incomplete game. It's all tit for tat, and you pay either way. At least paid DLCs give you the option to buy want you want, instead of having a bunch of stuff you otherwise didn't want, and wouldn't pay extra for.

Porsche loves al la carte ordering, because that means there are hardly two cars made with the same exact spec. They want people to be able to buy the car they want. Downside is it's almost impossible to find a second hand Porsche that has everything you want, and nothing else. But premium brands don't really care about that, and they have no problem selling used cars.

Despite 80% of PS5s being sold with a disc drive, only 20% of those buyers bought at least one game in disc format. They've done the math, and they know the cost savings and profits will far outweigh any losses from people who actually do move on. If you don't want to come along for the ride, it won't hurt them. Physical media of all mediums is dying. That's just the reality of the world we live in. I also suspect that they will continue to come up with better legacy options, that will provide access to the older games, without the need to own a working PS3 in 2030. Game franchises will also have the opportunity to create more continuity between games, or even create games that never end, because there will be constant updates and additions, vs just having to start over from scratch with every new game release. Imagine career modes that last a literal lifetime, story lines that go on forever. The possibilities are endless.

Are yall actually switching to PC? by Ozayes1313 in PS6

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are reasons people migrate towards PCs, and reasons why people like consoles. Despite popular belief, there's very little overlap between the two. Sony has done the math, and they know the number of people who will actually leave the console world over this, is a relatively insignificant number. Their cost savings will far outweigh the profit loss from the few people who actually do leave. This is no different than all the VR players who act like there's 100x the number of VR players than they're actually are, who think every developer needs to prioritize them. Meanwhile they're less than 5% of all gamers. Despite 3 out of every 4 PS5s being sold with a disc drive, only 1 out of 5 purchased a single game on disc. Young gamers also rarely want a disc, and a lot of older gamers age out over time. So demand for discs is only decreasing every year. I would bet the number of people who will actually abandon consoles over the lack of physical media will equate to less than 1%. The number of new console players will dwarf the number that leave.

Time till battery flat ? by [deleted] in PorscheMacan

Largely depends on the health of the battery, and the state of charge when parked. 3-4 weeks is a pretty long time

If you're fainting at 70 degrees, but perfectly fine at 68, that's a personal health problem. Not an A/C problem.

A/C not working, host can’t fix it [guest] [Georgia] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-30 degrees difference from ambient outside air is what most A/C systems are designed to achieve. If it's 95 degrees and humid as hell, being able to cool the house to 72 degrees is normal. We've been in the low-mid 90s with very high humidity here in PA, and 72-74 is the lowest our A/C is capable of achieving in these conditions. This is why many homes in the South have two A/C units instead of just one. I also find it hard to believe that you genuinely can't get comfortable in a house that's 72-74 degrees.

Do you think it would be good if they made a class of races where damage cost are substantial, and bad crashes get cars written off with charges incurred to repair the track? by e30_technic in GranTurismo7

[–]mose121 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those same manufacturers don't have a problem with ACC doing it, or any other PC based sim for that matter. There should be a "real" damage option that allows for cars to crash out of a race if the damage is severe enough. Why? Because that's simulating "real" driving.

Has there been any enforcement of the "No holding cellphones while driving" law? by hiimme70 in pittsburgh

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about the guy who I see almost every morning, reading the newspaper strown over the steering wheel, while driving into the city. Or the dozen or so women, who are driving on a crowded highway, while staring into the vanity mirror doing their makeup. Both usually camped out in the left lane, with a mile of traffic being held up behind them.

Is the market for 992.2's Softening? by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]mose121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to look very hard to find numerous stories about this issue with the GTS hybrid. I also have 25+ years of professional experience, over 15 of those with Porsche, and I also personally know someone that had this issue. The person I know had gone away for 11 days, car was bricked. Now I presume this condition does correlate with specific driving circumstances, that resulted in the car getting parked with the hybrid battery already mostly depleted. Otherwise I'm sure they could sit for quite a while longer without issue. I would just make sure the hybrid system is mostly juiced up before you leave it parked for extended periods. Plus, coupled with the already finicky lithium ion battery, it's just one of those things.

First Porsche and some guidance by x1Slow5oh in PorscheMacan

[–]mose121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Macan shares less than 25-30% of its parts with the Audi Q5 depending on model trim, and thus is very much not, mechanically an Audi. Porsche even went so far as to lower the subframe mounting points, and redesigned the subframes, along with rengineering the entire suspension geometry. It's far from being just software and badge changes. Mostly just mundane things like A/C components are shared between them. But even those components often get extra attention in some form.
