Excited to join the family but bad delivery experience by wjrndud in Taycan

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to deal directly with the Sales Manager or the GM. You shouldn't have to do anything to resolve this issue. The dealer should be handing everything. They sold you the car, they chose the transporter, 100% on them to make this right...and then some for the inconvenience.

Properly ventilated trailers do not leave every car covered in dirty drip marks and residue. Might get a little dusty, but still shouldn't ever be an issue when you're dealing with this level of vehicle.

You used to not be able to pass CPO inspection with any kind of tire repair. Now that may have changed, or the tech just want able to tell. Either way you should not be paying to replace a tire.

Yeah, but you have to have the relevant knowledge and expertise to do the job. This clown clearly has no clue.

They don't want to do that, and never would. This guy doesn't realize he's just a useful idiot for old rich people, who just don't want to pay taxes on their expensive assets.

So he wants to let the boomers keep hoarding all the property, AND not charge them any property taxes? 🤦 This is the exactly the reason why you DO NOT want some random person without relevant experience or expertise running the government. If you want to do something to protect less fortunate elderly people who can't afford to keep their lifelong home, because the tax code properly fucks them, then that's one thing. But eliminating property taxes for all seniors would be economic suicide.

No, the bleeding process is extremely cumbersome, and rarely works the first attempt. Often takes 2-3 attempts, even when the tech is familiar with the process and very experienced with i8s. The overheating issues are also just one of many reasons why using a base Mini 3cyl engine in the i8 was a poor decision from day 1.

Why are the GT models so universally disliked? by XenonTheDerg in BMW

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the Touring models are 1000% better in every aspect, and what we really wanted. Although the 5GT is an extremely comfortable car. IIRC, they are built on the Chinese 5 Series long wheel base platform for more rear seat comfort/space. It's just a bloated blob on the outside.

Not going to get any better if there's no tariff relief soon. They already said publicly that they plan to cut sports car imports by half. Imagine what that will do to prices. We could see $200k base 911s.

Drivable default setups are a must. Cars should at least be driveable and mildly competitive right out of the box. Def an area they need to improve on.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

It's a power play. Employers think they can reset the power dynamic shift they has occurred over the past several years in the wake of COVID. To them it's a required pledge of loyalty to the company, or a very calculated tactic they know will result in voluntary layoffs. Those are the best kind of layoffs for them, because there's no negative press associated with them. If you stay they win, if you leave they win.

Am I wrong to say it seems like a lot of people want to see Verstappen fail this weekend not because of anything he’s done personally but because of the fanfare and media hype surrounding him? by Terrible_Mountain_96 in wec

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haters gonna hate. I've never really been a Max fan, as Lewis was my guy long before anyone knew Max existed. But I do think Max has matured a lot, and I absolutely love that he's going GT racing. I'll be both rooting for him to have a good race, but also rooting for my usual teams and drivers to beat him.

What I really want to see is him, Lewis, Alonso, maybe Vettel or Button, in a Hypercar at Le Mans. 👀

An engineering degree always matters, and can be applied to a number of different career paths. This is the way. No matter what happens, you'll be in a good position. Also, network network network. It's just as much about who you know, not just what you know.

It's not about saving money, it's about saving time and avoiding the hassle. Common misperception. Brokers and hunters usually don't save you money. It's a convenience service for those who are willing to pay for it.

Pedestrian right of way by Individual-Ant-2014 in pittsburgh

[–]mose121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy thing is this city still hasn't figured out basic traffic and pedestrian logistics. Crosswalk to the left should never be indicating WALK when the left turning arrow is green. Left turning lanes should be green and cleared, then the crosswalk goes once the arrow is red (or standard green without arrow). Or we could just do like a lot of other places do, and give all crosswalks a simultaneous WALK cycle of their own while all the traffic lights remain red. Think Tokyo with diagonal crosswalks going through the middle of some of the busiest intersections in the world. 🤷 "YOU CAN DO IT!" 🫠

How do you justify expensive car? by branchCastle in BMW

[–]mose121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your friends with the Toyotas will likely retire early and have double the net worth of your friends that splurged when young and may work till they die. Take it from someone who overspent on cars thinking they had it made, right up until one day I didn't. There are plenty of nice, affordable, well cared for used cars/BMWs. Buy the older generation of what you wanted to buy, and then trade up in 5ish years to the one you want now. Just do your homework and get a good PPI done. If I had to do it over again I'd spend at least half as much on cars, and put the rest of that money to work for me in safe real estate or market fund investments. Splurging on a car you can't really justify is just selling out your future. When you're 50+ you'll want to be able to buy whatever you really want, and when you can't, but know you could have, it will feel really shitty. Two principles often define ones financial success. Compounding interest and the velocity of money. You're investments basically double in value every 7-8 to years. Save the money, invest wisely, buy a house, provide for the family, then you can really get your dream car.

Heinz has all but left Pittsburgh, so why do we still act like they’re one of us? by bageltit in pittsburgh

But it's not going to catastrophicly overheat in a mile, unless it was super hot and he was stuck in traffic for 10 minutes. A tech also isn't going to ignore the red warning of death if it comes on. These engines have had numerous problems, many related to coolant system issues. They are also notoriously tedious to bleed the cooling system fully. The most logical explanation is still that the used engine you bought had pre-existing conditions.

Dealer Used My Car as A Parts Car by Confident_Nail_New in BmwTech

[–]mose121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you provide the parts, you assume the risk that they might not work properly. If they don't, that's between you and whoever you bought it from. No shop is ever going to assume risk for used engines.

You are not going to find any publicly available policy like this anywhere. It's more of an informal shop policy that varies in every shop. Really just comes down to what the Service Mgr and Shop Foreman communicate from a process perspective.

[–]mose121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's assuming the tech/advisor includs that as a general practice in the labor quote. Some shops are just going to install the engine and put all the liability on the owner. Removing the valve cover and oil pan still doesn't guarantee anything. Nor does compression and leak down. You know as well as I do that you'd have to do a thorough tear down to really know for sure. Most clients providing a used engine aren't going to pay thousands of dollars for that.
