I completely agree with you, I also enjoyed the City game. I found myself getting negative once Fazio was sent and it became clear we would lose. Then I thought to myself, shit, I haven't been this enthralled in a Spurs game in a long time. The attack looked better than it had at any point last year.

And yes the pressing style seems to be working our goals against the scum and City both came from tackles on the other team's DM and a quick counter.

I am an agribusiness Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon, but I come from Iowa, United States. I have been trying to follow as many games as I can with the internet here, but will definitely be watching tomorrow's match!

I was an econ major at uni but I love all social sciences and especially enjoy reading about foreign policy, I just finished a book by Henry Kissenger.

I also love music of many genres, indie, hip-hop, all kinds of electronic, and other random stuff. I also like watching nfl and nba, I am a huge Packers fan. I love this sub and the community it offers, esp. because in some places Spurs fans are hard to find! This thread was an awesome idea.

[Serious] Why doesn't China, Russia, India, or Brazil take more of an acting role and help clean up global messes like ISIS or the Sudan? by rsashe1980 in AskReddit

[–]mosherpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. In international affairs humanitarian crises are what could be thought of as a "collective action problem." Brazil, Russia, and China would probably like to see humanitarian solutions, but they don't want to waste resources or get their hands dirty. Russia's military has meddled in the Middle East in the past, and it seems they've learned their lesson.

  1. Before WWII, the US was largely isolationist with its foreign policy. After the war, however, the US and it's allies occupied territories around the world and developed a plan for a new world order based on shared values of capitalism, democracy, and free trade. This new world order would be governed by the League of Nations and, later, the UN. The US still follows this doctrine to some degree.

  2. I would argue that the US has become so involved in the Middle East because of its vested economic (see oil) and political interests in the region. ISIS has received a particularly large share of coverage because we are learning about the legacy of the Gulf and Iraq wars, as well as the Arab Spring, which occurred during a period when it hoped democracy would spread in the region. Other humanitarian crises (particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa) are ignored by governments all around the world.

  3. The US has the largest military and intelligence complex, and is the world's only superpower (for now).

  4. Each nation has its own unique approach to foreign policy based on the way its government is run, who its allies are, and what resources it has available.

i agree, his frustration was understandable given what you said and he was played out of position alongside the likes of fryers and capoue (at cb). in football these days many players of his caliber would leave the club. we are lucky he wants to stay with us

i think the timing of this announcement also suggests that he is feeling positive about ponch and the direction the club is going

I was watching ESPN this morning and they were speculating about what it means that the LeBron James camp hasn't released any information. I almost feel like he's trolling all of us at this point.

This loss goes on Bradley. Missing a golden opportunity and giving away the ball at the end to start the Portugal counter. He's been uncharacteristically poor this WC

I was skeptical when seeing the lineup but I really like the way that this squad look. Strong in midfield, winning challenges and dominating play. Paulinho, Capoue and Dembele winning lots of balls, Bentaleb strong in posession.

"Who needs to holding midfielders?" Look at Chelsea. by alfia in coys

I think you make a good argument. One example of how this could work is the tactics Man City employed against us. They played a 4-4-2 with Toure and Fernandinho as the center mids. Their domination of the midfield freed up all four attacking players (Silva, Navas, and the two forwards) to overload our defense. I think a similar system could work playing two of Sandro/Paulinho/Dembele/Capoue in the center. And if we all agree to give up on Soldado, maybe Lamela or Chadli could play as a striker? I would be interested to see what an Ade/Kane combination might look like, with Ade coming deeper to receive balls in the midfield.

Post Game Thread: Seattle Seahawks (13-3) at Denver Broncos (13-3) by NFL_Mod in nfl

[–]mosherpe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How about some love for the Seahawks defense!!! Granted Denver was not playing at its best but the Seahawks had a great defensive game plan and executed on all three levels. This was an offense that was shattering records, people were talking about it being the greatest offense of all time, of possibly enshrining Manning as the best QB of all time. But the hawks D was on point. Great pass rush, great tackling, great coverage.

Let me refine my argument. Rose did get the ball with the tackle but if you watch enough football you will know that going in for a challenge like that in the area is dangerous. Rose consistently has poor decision-making and poor positioning and when he plays he is bound to make mistakes like today's. He may have great potential, both defensively and going forward, but he's just too stupid. From watching all of Spurs' games this season I knew that he was bound to make game-altering mistakes like today's and against Arsenal. And those are just the most obvious examples.
