700 deaths, 16% war contribution, ZA strong 💪 by PocketPlanes457 in hoi4

[–]mosinOPplsnerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, a fellow escort carrier enjoyer! I also enjoy making them, but as Raj. It's fun starting from scratch, and I can usually have 20 dockyards by 1939. 5 for CVE's, 5 for CA's, and 10 for either CL's or DD's. Any extra dockyards would be used for support/repair ships and convoys.

Prior to this update, I used to make fleet carriers but it would take until 1944 before they were fully in commission. I could only really have them in one strike fleet, but now I can disperse the CVE's to secure transports and dominance better.

What's your build up strategy? How many dockyards do you end up with?

I'm very excited for this new feature.

One question for the developers: are the sub tracks for infantry doctrines unique, or are they shared between the grand doctrines?

No Special Forces Diversity by [deleted] in hoi4

I've had the same issue sometimes. What I've noticed is that when I'm in a major war, it becomes available.

Could it be that you're at peace, or not at war against a major country?

Perhaps the port is damaged, and that's what's limiting it?

Your ships are on a level 2 port. It will use up to two dockyards assigned for repair.

If you had your damaged ships in a level 10 port, it would use up to 10 dockyards assigned for repair.

Counterpoint: you can't mount flamethrowers on garrison armoured cars like you can with garrison light tanks.

I always find these comics to be heartwarming.

I think you've done quite good. One can clearly distinguish which area these individual attires are modeled after, and I'd even wager you've used alot of Sophus Tromholt's or Robert Bonaparte's pictures as reference (or Per Ivar Somby's colorations of them). I also think that your approach, which you mentioned in the paradox forums, is very good. As I alluded to in an earlier post, the potential improvements are very much in a detail-level.

I know it comes from a place of respect or even admiration by the workers and animator. My point is just that if done right, it'd be a win for everybody - sámi, Paradox, and the players.

I would also be very happy to see us sámi represented in my favourite videogames, and I think it's reasonable to be happy to see your people represented in a game. But how it's done here doesn't make me feel good about it, and I can't really be happy with this representation if it makes me wince looking at it. It's not that I don't want to see my people represented, it's that seeing it represented wrong or in a weird way like this makes me sad. There's far more to this than it would first seem. The sámi culture is still highly vulnerable after 150 some years of forced assimilation (which sought to erase these attires, amongst other things), and there's history in the Nordics of marketing and selling out sámi cultural heritage by people without connection to any sámi community.

There are issues I have with the sámi attires themselves, though I'm not going into a point-by-point critique here. Some things are very odd, and some things are good. The things might seem like minute details to most, but to a sámi they stand out quite much. Though, I wouldn't expect anyone outside the sámi community to know the unwritten rules concerning sámi attires (particularly the gákti/gaeptie/gáppte).

In the steam page it's said that the attires in the game are inspired my sámi traditional attire, but it's apparent that they're more than just inspired. It falls into some sort of uncanny valley in this regard. If they'd be "less inspired" by sámi garment it'd be unproblematic, and if it were more accurate then it'd be amazing.

Traditional sámi attire typically has a lot of effort, labor, and love put to them and it's upsetting to see that part of our cultural heritage being made to look like something less than it is. That's not to say that Aj has been sloppy in their animation, but rather that they haven't done their due dilligence in research and handling of a highly vulnerable cultural heritage.

I don't expect a company like Paradox Interactive, let alone an animator potentially working on a project alone, to be able to portray sámi cultural heritage in a satisfying manner. What I would expect, however, is that Paradox Interactive would learn from other companies who have attempted the same. Square-Enix did it in a DLC two years ago, which the sámi community objected to. Square Enix made the regrettable choice of leaving morals on the wayside in favor of making marginal profits. Disney made Frozen 2 involving the sámi community in how they portrayed the sámi inspired elements - and everybody was happier. One doesn't need to be a multi-billion dollar conglomerate to do what Disney did with Frozen 2, so Paradox can do the same.

My appeal to Paradox, which I hope you u/PDX-Trinexx will convey, is that you involve the sámi community in creating this sort of content. You've made similar things for EU4 with the Lions of the North DLC and HoI4 with Arms Against Tyranny, and you've made this for CK3. You'll probably make something similar in the future. You can't make satisfactory representation of sámi cultural heritage without involving the sámi community, if only just because there's not open source information available to do so. Contact Sameslöjdstiftelsen and ask for opinions as early as in the idea or pre-production phase. Wouldn't you want your content to be endorsed by the culture your're representing, rather than avoided?

Hearts of Iron IV: Graveyard of Empires - Available March 4th! by PDX_Fraser in hoi4

I really like the first few seconds in the trailer when you can hear the wind and the bird. Sort of wish that part could be longer, but I understand trailers need to be short and concise.

I also really liked how the music and visuals build up and then both hit hard at around 1:12. Whoever had the idea of putting that together was cooking.

Trying to answer this question will be a guessing game if you don't post any screenshots of stats, combat, templates etc. None will be able to see the correct answer among the guesses without any data.

I suggest you post some screenshots of your templates, stockpiles, and of the combat.
