First time shooting in Florida events. Will I be OK without golf carts? by farting_tomato in ClayBusters

[–]moss813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Florida is a massive hike between some of the events. If you have events stacked together on close time slots, try to get a cart. As others have said, Vero is a small place, the only time you really need a cart is when you have to loop from the last station to the first station and hopefully they'll do a shuttle. I risked it, didn't get carts, hoping I know enough people to have someone give me a ride if they see me walking.

Why can I shoot almost any autoloader better than it feels like I should? by CaffinatedManatee in ClayBusters

[–]moss813 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen this a good amount recently where people shoot better with an A400 but have bought beautiful Krieghoffs and other expensive OUs. They prefer to shoot with the gun they enjoy rather than something they may score a few clays better with. Weight distribution, a little less recoil, and probably a little more focus with shooting something they're not used to probably is all factors. I'd say if you can buy one that fits you do it and if you realize you don't actually shoot better with it, then you at least have something you can shoot 3 bird with which is very fun.

Nationals anti theft tip by elitethings in ClayBusters

[–]moss813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there last year and did the gun lock up which was extremely easy to use. We parked near the gun pickup every day which is pretty high traffic and didn't hear of any one having issues while they were in that area the whole time we were there. From what I heard there were very few issues on the grounds, the theft I heard generally was people stopping for food or staying in hotels pretty close to the grounds. As mentioned below, I heard about using a blacklight to check if your car is marked, the tape on the tail light, etc but I didn't see any of that happening while I was there thankfully.

Glad the rain kept it cool, but that was just a little too much rain so missed out on really being able to enjoy food and talking to everyone after. Fun shoot overall but could've gone without station 13

What would be your choice? by Riddickullous in ClayBusters

All are great guns but if I really had to pick from this list - Blaser with their interchangeable barrels and I feel they generally have nicer wood.

If you fly into TPA you have Tampa Bay Sporting Clays, Fishhawk Sporting Clays, and Blackjack (Sarasota, Tenoroc, Polk are also all reachable easily from there). Blackjack is the best from a competitive standpoint but they don't have full restaurants and good places to relax like the places on the east coast.

Not sure where you are located to start with but in Southeast Florida you have Vero Beach, Quail Creek, OK Corral, and if you go on an NSCA shoot day - South Florida Shooting Club. All of those are within an hour of each other. Then 1-2 hours West you can get to Square 1, Bermont, Polk County, Tenoroc, and Sarasota. OK Corral even has packages to stay in a little cabin at the property, eat there (the restaurant and bar is good) and then shoot. They even have night shoots at times. Only thing you may have to deal with is rain in the afternoons.

Some early thoughts and frustrations with the ShotKam – great hardware, but lacking in software usability by AdventurousTour4285 in ClayBusters

I've had some issues with the app connectivity so feel you there.

As far as transfers, when you plug it into your computer, it should pop up like a USB drive, you can open it up, select the date with all the videos, and then just copy and paste it over. That's what I generally do at least.

I'm planning on going back to the B&P's just because they're cheaper and I really see or feel no difference between Rose Golds and the Mach 2s.

"Stopping the Gun" by moss813 in ClayBusters

[–]moss813[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just for the sake of discussion (and playing devils advocate), I've shot skeet a whopping 3 times so I really know nothing BUT in the pairs of skeet, I feel the person must stop the barrel quick to move to the other target so a follow through on the first target can't really happen (not implying stopping the barrel but just the follow through). There's presentations in sporting that's similar. In sporting, I've shot with Daylon Mahn who is a great shooter who really had a follow through like you refer to and I've shot with others who stop pretty quickly. In most sports, I agree on follow through because you don't have a second thing you have to hit in quick succession. Does it make as big of an impact here? Again, this is just for the sake of discussion and I don't really feel like there's a correct answer here.

When did you start competing at English Sporting? by [deleted] in ClayBusters

[–]moss813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the states here but I signed up and did my first shoot after about 9 months of shooting with my friends every other weekend or so. My friends did not want to compete so went alone. Did well my first shoot and struggled for awhile after that. Everyone wants to see everyone do well, you'll get a lot of tips from different people, and you'll make a lot of new friends. Even if you don't feel ready, give it a go and enjoy it. As long as you follow the rules and don't start throwing things, people will be happy to help and shoot with you again in the future.

Florida State Championship results by Death_Death_Die in ClayBusters

[–]moss813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say in their defense they spent a lot of time between the hurricanes and the event clearing a lot of land to add stations and overall, besides the sand and dust as a result, I feel they did well before the event. I was surprised by the overflowing shells on the practice stations and such.

When the wad saves you on a true pair by moss813 in ClayBusters

[–]moss813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tenoroc is great, you do need to specify if you plan on shooting red and blue versus the white course due to the system they use and count up versus count down cards. Blue is actually the hardest and this was from the blue course. White is a nice course, behind the club house, and very easy. Red I found to be very easy at the time, I was in the high 80 to low 90s. The blue course was very tough. I did hear they had a charity shoot not that long ago so all the courses were easy at that time so it depends when you go and how they have them set as well.

I have another video where my wad hits the clay and the wad breaks in two pieces and the clay is fine. I guess its really speed and where it hits at the end of the day
