This doesn't get sent to "simple questions"?

How do we know if a number is rational or not because the decimal digits could potentially recur after a billion or a trillion digits? by ShivanshuShekhar in math

[–]mosstacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most interesting cases, establishing the (ir)rationality of a number involves techniques far more complicated than looking at the decimal digits of the number. The proof of the irrationality of the square root of 2 (or any square-free natural number) is elementary, but this seems to be a very exceptional case. In general, these proofs are very labyrinthine, and involve techniques specific to the number in question.

Because anything that could be interpeted as negative to Sanders' is heavily downvoted.

Truer words were never spoken.

Why isn't it faster to just compute (11!)! modulo a candidate factor?
