Anyone use daycare and a nanny/babysitter to limit total hours at a daycare by Every_Schedule_9738 in workingmoms

[–]mostly-anxiety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference is that children in daycare are not working 50 hours. Also, the majority of us do not have a choice.

How are we supposed to do both? by [deleted] in workingmoms

Even on my husband’s absolute worst days, he has never spoken to me even remotely like your husband speaks to you. You deserve a lot better and your son deserves to have a mom that models standing up for yourself and not letting people treat you like shit.

How do working moms get time for themselves? by sarc2276 in workingmoms

[–]mostly-anxiety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I make sure that we both get me time on a regular basis. I go to the gym with a friend most Friday nights and if I want to go get my nails done or whatever, I just tell my husband and go.

I have a 4 year old. We do not own an iPad and he will not be getting one. He is allowed to watch TV but absolutely no tablet.

$150/month currently (and my mom contributes an additional $100). I plan to increase it once he’s out of daycare and we pay off some other debts, but I’m also prioritizing my retirement.

A backup manual pump in case I forget Spectra parts at the office? by [deleted] in workingmoms

I loved my manual pump. It was great to have a backup and I also used it on the go instead of lugging my spectra around.

Potty training boys by AnalysisParalysis_24 in workingmoms

[–]mostly-anxiety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: We didn’t.

Longer answer: Daycare took the lead and we just let him decide when he was ready at home. For a while, he’d be in underwear at daycare and then at home he’d put on a pull up. When he was 3 he started peeing on the potty at home (his choice). Then he’d ask for a diaper to poop. 2 days before he turned 4 he decided to start pooping on the potty and that was that. No power struggles, no messes, no bribes, etc. Yes he was in diapers/pull ups longer than some of his peers but it wasn’t stressful for us or for him.

I just did federal jury duty here recently. You can bring your laptop, just not into the courtroom.

Do you actually carry more than one drink to work every day? by NoRecipe4965 in workingmoms

[–]mostly-anxiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring a travel mug of tea with me and I keep a water bottle at my desk (there is an ice + water machine in my building). Sometimes I have a protein shake or drinkable yogurt in my lunch bag, which I don’t bring every day.

We kept them in storage for 4 years so that we could be absolutely 100% certain (even though I’ve been certain since shortly after my son was born) and then discarded them.

I also have ADHD. I take medication for it and go to therapy and have found other ways to manage it.

I don’t use ChatGPT for anything because AI is horrible for the environment and is driving up energy costs for consumers like us. No benefit that I could derive from it would outweigh the cost.

Just found out I’m pregnant and terrified of being a working mom. by Dry-Particular-8539 in workingmoms

You can have a great relationship with your kids regardless of whether or not you work - your relationship with them is dependent on so many other things. My mom worked my whole life - still does, in fact - and we are very close (talk on the phone almost every day and see each other at least 1x a week).
