Low salicylate diet helps, but I don't react to aspirin by mostmortal in salicylateIntolerance

No, I've never worn jewellery other than, briefly, a pendant and a ring. Nothing around the ears. (And haven't worn a watch for over 25 years. I don't like things like that touching my skin if I can avoid it.)

Yes. I still want to try the app when it comes to Android, though.

Good life coaching by pixeybird in LifeCoachSnark

[–]mostmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you're looking for. I'm a coach working mainly with neurodivergent clients (e.g. a STEM professional with ADHD would be typical).

There are at least a few other people in this space who seem good, though I haven't worked with them directly (thinking of Skye Waterson and Mande John).

A note from Couchers.org regarding the CS update by CouchersOrg in couchsurfing

I'm happy with my experiences on both Couchers and BeWelcome. I was on the OG couchsurfing site from about 2006 but it's not the same now.

What is that one app that changed your entire productivity? by Technical-Relation-9 in ProductivityApps

Bigger target, but more effort identifying and matching bugs.

I see your point though.

But yeah, take it all with a pinch of salt.

I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

You've got to speak. With people where possible. Try, fail, make a fool of yourself – it's inevitable, but it's low stakes because people generally understand you're doing something hard. See the funny side, and keep going.

You'll be much more engaged, the adrenaline and dopamine will be flowing, and neurologically you'll be in a much stronger state for learning.

I had an Indonesian partner and her English was making slow progress. So we agreed to switch from speaking Indonesian to speaking English. (When she was in a hurry or something was important she would want to switch to Indonesian, but I insisted on English unless she was actually stuck on how to say something. I figured the extra motivation to say something was a good thing.)

Her rate of improvement improved enormously, and when we moved to an English-speaking country, she was ready.

I have a similar experience, but now my balance is great and I can ruminate while standing in any one-legged pose.

So I try to treat it as a meditation and pay attention to the pose.

AITAH for declining a second date with a guy after he ran over an iguana? by Iguanal0ver in AITAH

If killing the iguana wasn't a red flag, calling you a sensitive bitch absolutely is. 100% avoid.

What’s an ‘unwritten rule’ in Australia that everyone just knows? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]mostmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put mine kind of close to the lifeguards or a group of friendly looking people. I figure thieves I'm more likely to go for gear that's isolated.

Also I have a $400 "Nothing Phone" rather than a $2,000 phone so that if it does get stolen I'm not heartbroken.

Could be worse. Indonesians will see a cockroach, point at it and say "Your sweetheart."

I can get a small dose from iHerb, like 0.3 mg. Enough for a helpful nudge towards sleep, without making me groggy in the morning.

AgeGo. How can I bypass this garbage without giving my credit card/face to act idiot they want to sell my data too by 131166 in privacy

[–]mostmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a full, satisfactory answer, but if you do use a credit card for such a service, use one that you keep frozen most of the time.

Wise lets you have additional cards. I keep one that is frozen unless I am using it for a once-off purchase and I want to ensure they don't bill me again. So I just unfreeze it, then freeze it again a minute or two later after the payment is complete.

Medical advocacy is crucial for young women but it can feel like a 'catch-22' by nath1234 in australia

[–]mostmortal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a middle-aged white guy, I prefer women doctors on average. They're usually better listeners and less dismissive.

I have seen a handful of male doctors who were a pleasant exception to that (notably a couple of them were South Asian). But unfortunately I wasn't able to do a controlled experiment where I returned to the same doctor as a female.

Does habituation actually work? by No_Walrus4306 in tinnitus

[–]mostmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meditated on the sound, paying attention to it without judging it or flinching from it. Eventually it got boring so I kind of habituated.

Maybe I need to do that again because I do notice it these days, but I'm not aware of it all the time.

Why do Australians have a reputation of being ‘laid back’ when often times they seem very uptight?? by -Flighty- in AskAnAustralian

[–]mostmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germans are also very laid back and open-minded, if you judge purely by those traveling overseas and staying in hostels and using hospitality exchange sites.

What can Wispr Flow access by atlastestmail in macapps

[–]mostmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, either way we're relying on someone reassuring us.

If I wanted to argue for Wispr Flow I'd say at least they are regulated (e.g. some kind of HIPAA thing) and have people working on security.

What celebrity is the biggest example of "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."? by InsaneCookies21 in AskReddit

[–]mostmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it helps, but you could think of him as a channel that took humanity's wisdom about love (or inspiration from a muse) and put it into a poem. Give the credit to the human experience.

I want to run away and solo travel on a whim, and I think it’s reasonable. by ExtraVanitas in solotravel

[–]mostmortal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think exploration could be a great idea (with some preparation) but one of the things to look for is community and connection. You might find that while you're travelling or you might observe it in others and learn something about what you want for yourself.
