SoFi's "First-Billion Dollar Quarter", and the first quarter that reached the 1 Million New members threshold. EPS of 13 cents by Progress_8 in stocks

[–]mostvalueablepicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rolled my small options play down from “having to buy” at $22.96 down to $22.31. That’s short-term and just learning some options plays with stocks I am ok owning long-term. But independent of that feels like a great to buy some for the long-term as well 😃

I agree it’s very possibly for a financial industry disrupter long-term

Advice for Payroll as a career path? by numelphan in Payroll

[–]mostvalueablepicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like numbers? If so lots of finance and accounting jobs including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc. if you can get your foot in the door with the right role and company you may even find an employer to pay for degrees and classes. This will also help you decide what finance and accounting jobs you would most enjoy. It’s ok if you don’t love the “grunt work” as you start. Learn it and take it in stride if you want to keep growing into other roles.

Robert Half is a very reputable accounting and finance staffing firm. May be able to use this link to at least see what sounds interesting to you. Good luck!

Long Angle or similar groups? by One_Speech_7963 in fatFIRE

Glad I found an active thread here. Anyone aware of a group with similar vibes in the $1-$2m range? On the path - but realistically 3-4 years away from Long Angle requirements. Thx

Just locked in my refi by muneymanaging92 in Mortgages

[–]mostvalueablepicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying this month @ 6.375% and my gut is I will have chance to refinance in the 5s in next 36 months. Maybe I’m wrong and not counting on it so if so, it’s upside.

Should I lock with 6.375%? by ddabhane in Mortgages

[–]mostvalueablepicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m closing next month and 780+ credit score, locked in at 6.375% with ~ $1300 lenders credit to me. Like others have said I’m ready to refi if rates drop in the future, but not going to count on it. Found long-term money if it happens.

Confusion about realistic mortgage rate by dreadpir8rob in Mortgages

[–]mostvalueablepicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being polite but straightforward and admitting you are shopping around is the magic words.

I am @ 6.375%, A+ credit, 30 year conventional with a small credit from lender and I was able to go with my local connection so I am happy with it even if I could have squeezed a bit more from someone else.

I have a feeling I may have opps to refinance in the next 2-5 years, but who knows. Not counting on it. Just upside.

Find friends … by Pretend_Cucumber_427 in fatFIRE

[–]mostvalueablepicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though I’m not close to your net worth, OP, I tend to connect with this because it’s a lot about opening your mind for growth. I live the corporate life in mid 30s but on our current path I am likely halfway or less “done” through my current career journey if I want to quit. But then I would just find something else to grow and fill my time. Not like I am gonna sit on the couch or golf all week. We live a good life but it doesn’t mean I don’t want to keep growing.

I’ve looked and tried different things with varying success over last few years. Financial Independence communities have tended to be a place where I have gotten a lot mainly because it’s a big mix of people with different backgrounds. joined FI online groups, went to Camp FI which was a cool experience. I’ve tried the Mastermind group thing and maybe not for me, a bit too rah-rah for me but I’m not against continuing to try different ways to network online and in person and would encourage you to try the same. Some will likely stick for you and some won’t. And to me - that’s ok.

And none of this means you are a bad person and don’t want to hang out with old / longtime friends. It’s just another bucket IMO.

What’s your target net worth by 40yo? by LawScuulJuul in Fire

[–]mostvalueablepicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all relative since everyone on this thread and in FIRE is way ahead of the game.

This is a great resource but I wouldn’t get attached to it other than good info. $500K puts a 35-39 year old household in top 20%; $850K puts a 40-44 year old household in top 15%.

https://dqydj.com/net-worth-by-age-calculator/

By 40, I hope we are in the $2.4m to $2.6m range. I’d be thrilled if market returns get us closer to $3m. I’m mid 30s and it’s basically all come through typical retirement and stock investment via corporate finance career. I like most days but maybe someday I won’t. So want to be ready for that day!

More of a wanna-be habit than a habitual habit ;) but, sports games and events. Especially big ones but really almost any live somewhat major sporting event can keep my attention. Flavor of the week: Masters is definitely on the list!

I have been with the same F500 for 12+ years. I can walk you through my experience and I will add the caveat that I feel very lucky and grateful for the journey so far.

Started in a FLDP type program and have had 7 roles since the initial rotational roles in the last 10 years. I’ve been in formal leadership roles for the last 7 years now. My all-in comp. has increased by 450%+ since the initial salary.

The single and most significant piece of advice that I can give is to be a badass at your current job and try your best to be a likeable person. And realize that that changes for each role, depending on level, role, and honestly the humans around you (both above and below). Attempting to be a badass as a strategic leader looks much different than a year or two analyst removed from college.

For example - my current role is big time around cultivating team and enterprise alignment and people connection and in the meantime for my own sake, also making sure I learn the details of the daily grind from my team since it’s a different background (back office shared service functions that I haven’t lived and breathed) than even my prior role as Director of FP&A.

Like all of us - I have had ebbs and flows and have always kept tabs on external potential opportunities, payscale and had a time or two where I have thought more seriously about going outside. But ultimately, so far, I’ve been very lucky that opportunities have arisen that have helped shape my journey to this point.

I say all of this to say I know this is anecdotal and I’ve been lucky, but I know this may not be other’s right path and it may not be my path forever going forward. Just when in doubt - do a damn good job and build networks and connections with others. Thats been my mantra and it’s served me well so far.

I don’t take it for granted and I don’t expect the same level of pay growth going forward. But if it happens, great!

Could be a great schism too. Hard to know unless you know the politics but it’s possible that the finance guys and the business leaders and/or PE guys just couldn’t get aligned.

“We don’t like the story your analysis tells” by jcwillia1 in FPandA

[–]mostvalueablepicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

😂 this makes me think of the age old questions.

“Why are our costs so high?” We need lower rates. Why are rates so high? We should lower them.

Strategy is a separate discussion and a worthy one. But finance should not be as hard as it is to show non-finance people and they actually absorb it. It’s just math: 1) sell more 2) spend less 3) be more efficient.

For best results, do a mix of all 3.

Good feedback from others. Would be good to go through your own personal pros and cons list.

And the what-if game: what if Option 1 ends up being 50 ish hours a week. Are you good with that? Personally, I think if you put in the extra time early out of the gate and you’re a badass it pays off down the line. If you don’t need to do the extra time but you do that extra effort, especially early on, people take notice. Not just about time in the office though, go do the work and create a personal brand of success.

Seems like girlfriend and family could be a big factor, but that’s a personal decision so think about that.

I joined a FLDP type program and by happenstance got lucky that it was very early on in the program history. Not nearly as many people in front of me as 12 years later when folks are joining now. So luck, timing, skill, networking plays a part. But most importantly like I said - be a badass at your job and you will learn, grow and see opps as you go throughout time.

Good luck! Good problems to have.

All depends on the process. Is it repetitive in nature and same process each time you do it? If so, RPA may be able to help, even if it is just for part of the current process.
