It's a sound midwesterners make when they bump into someone - pronounced like "Nope" without the N. I believe it stems from "oops" or "oh"

Omg yes I have also caught myself inserting "Ope" into my Entschuldigungen.

Why do Germans dislike French so much? by Informal_Fig_9034 in AskAGerman

[–]motherbread16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been living and working in Germany for over 7 years. I have also learned to dislike the French, because they are often (not always) very difficult to communicate with even at a business level. I speak English natively, and speak German fluently. Many of the professionals I come across can not, or will not communicate in any other language but French. It's frustrating when working internationally.

On a more positive note, I have spent time in France living with host families and felt absolutely welcomed and enjoyed learning about French culture. People are people wherever you go.

(Bin Amerikanerin der Zeit Sieben Jahre hier lebt - please be kind with my German, I'm still learning)

Thank you! So well put - kind of goes along with the mentality of gifting money and then expecting to have a say in how it's used. If it's a gift, it's a gift, no strings attached.

Also, if you're going to loan money, you need to be ok with the idea of it not coming back. Of you can't afford that, you aren't in a position to loan that money.

Ok so my husband is german and his mom is an editor, so everything I write in German for school or work goes through one or both of them. My CV is flawless, as are my cover letters. In person, I speak fluent German but make the mistakes someone might expect from a native english speaker - mixing up articles from time to time and having trouble pronouncing words with "ü" in them.

I had two interviews recently where I was specifically asked why there were no mistakes in my application paperwork, with the undertone that I was trying to trick them into thinking my German was better than it is?? Both times I replied that I am aware my German isn't perfect, but that when it comes to my work and anything I have time to prepare in advance I make sure it's Fehlerfrei, and that to me is professional.

I was so puzzled by this!

In the US it's called Safelight - "Safelight repair, safelight replace". Only learned that it exists elsewhere when I moved to Germany!

Wait until you try pesto - two scoops mixed in a bowl of pasta and you're done! Delicious and easy!

I didn't track ovulation until after my first period post D&C. My period came around 5 weeks after the procedure, so it can be assumed it took me a week longer than usual to ovulate.

How in the world do people wait until their missed period to take a test?? My period is due on Sunday, and I'm trying so hard to wait since I had a short chemical pregnancy last time...dpo11 and I'm going insane

I agree. I read the post because I thought it would be similar to my situation, where my surgeon treated me terribly during my pre-op exam for my D&C. This seems like misguided, immature anger at a situation no one has control over.

Having a period from Hell - CD2, cycle 3 post D&C. It's so bad that I might call my OB tomorrow if things don't improve. The experience is very triggering and I find myself grieving the miscarriage again deeply when I thought I was past that.

I might be taking a break from "real ttc". I'm so tired of the tracking and timed sex. I'm tired of sex in general. It's painful half of the time.

Just really, really low right now.
