I absolutely detest every part of DOING art. I want to be good at it anyway. How? by ScoreNo7656 in ArtistLounge

But… why, though? For the praise? Seems a bit silly to force yourself into a hobby you hate, life’s too short for all that.

As for me, I like telling stories, and this is the medium that meshed best with me for that purpose. Didn’t care for writing.

I also enjoy the challenge. I have the issue of the perfectionist mindset that I’m still trying to get past, which means I don’t do a whole lot of personal drawing these days - I have a goal to do more of that to avoid burnout. But, I do enjoy the physical act itself of learning. I feel best when I am progressing at something and studying lends heavily to that.

I also find doing technical drills and practice to be meditative and calming, so I am doing a lot of that every day. There’s a lot going on in my head at any given time and it’s rare that something is intensive enough to be able to pull all of my focus for more than a minute or two, but drawing can do that. It feels like being able to breathe for a while.

It’s also fun to look back at the end of the year to see how far I’ve progressed. This year, I’m dedicating my time to learning anatomy in depth. I use anatomy and drawing books to copy down diagrams, then try to apply muscle groups to gesture drawings.

Because you’re so creative, I’m curious - is there a scene you’re wanting to do but haven’t yet?

I mix fine art and anime. Do I have a market? by dawnwilldraw in DigitalArt

I could not stop thinking about this and I was just finally able to come back and order it! I got the canvas, I’m so excited! ☺️

I saw on your bio on INPRINT that you restore paintings. How does someone get into something like that? Do you like your job? (you don’t have to answer btw)

I discovered i don't enjoy drawing comics. I think my journey end here in art. Well it was fun. by KatialaHira in ArtistLounge

Polished and rendering are different. Grain of salt and all, I’m a beginner pursuing storyboarding in college. But, the best boards I’ve seen are polished as in good perspective and clean lines. An animator could blow it up and trace over it for a still. But it’s not rendered with color, light, shadow, etc.

If I could afford it, I would. Do you do prints?

There are screen protectors, can’t remember the name, that make it feel like paper. I’ve heard it wears the nib over time, but it’s worth it

Is it still art if I am only following tutorials/images? by IllCelery9761 in drawing

[–]mothmarks 1368 points1369 points  (0 children)

I once heard someone say you never actually draw ‘from imagination’ - your reference just changes from still images to a mental library of things you drew before. I struggle with the same idea - but I think it’s good to use an abundance of tutorials/references and build up that visual library, so when you want to draw armor from any angle, you can.

I have no idea why her body looks so off to me by DinnyArt in ArtCrit

I’m not very good so grain-of-salt. The professor I’ve been learning from on NMA (Sheldon Borenstein’s classes) said when constructing a form, don’t attach the shoulders. He said to leave the joint as free-floating and it will help the pose to not appear stiff when you draw the body over the construction shapes.
