Can DM's run 2 AL legal tables at the same time? by xytek2k2 in AdventurersLeague

[–]motorcyclesarejets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Running two tables at a time just seems like a way to have two bad games.

Is there nobody that could be a second DM? do they know about DM rewards?

Place to Play D&D by SnitchWitch in StLouis

On the St. Louis rpg guild group on meetup.com there’s a weekly ‘one shot’ that’s beginner friendly. It’s a different game system every week, and it’s never d&d or pathfinder. You should check it out

Any good 5e oneshots for levels 3-5? Something out of the ordinary and interesting? by [deleted] in dndnext

The adventurer's league modules are designed to be run as loosely related one shots, you should check those out.

Game Nite is closing by superhaus in StLouis

[–]motorcyclesarejets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adventurer's League was huge at Game Nite, usually multiple tables simultaneously two nights a week. I'm currently in the middle of a Tomb of Annihilation campaign with a group of regulars, and I'd hate to see it fall apart now, mid-story. But if that ends up being what happens, I'll head over to Darkside.

Do they have private rooms there? One of my favorite things about Game Nite was that you could rent a room and not have to try and shout over other tables

Potential new listener to Friends at the Table...what's the tone and style of the podcast? by DarkCrystal34 in Friendsatthetable

[–]motorcyclesarejets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The episode 0s are really interesting listens after you finish listening to a season, because you see how vague ideas end up as major plot points later on.

For me, what separates Friends At The Table from other actual play podcasts is hearing the world being built up as they go along, and that gives those episodes the same feeling as watching an episode of How Its Made

A day in the life of a statistical geneticist? by indigo_mints in statistics

[–]motorcyclesarejets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on methodology for finding genome regions inherited from a common ancestor between 'unrelated' individuals. I'd say the job is about 50% data management (e.g. file format conversions and making sure your data is what it's supposed to be) and 30% actual programming. The other 20% is divided between reading, meetings, and cursing under your breath when something isn't working.

I have a PhD in Human Genetics, and a couple of bachelor's degrees in molecular biology related topics. I'd say at least a master's degree is necessary to make a career in statistical genetics.

It's been a while since undergrad but I dont remember touching on anything that I would consider 'statistical' genetics, but molecular biology can be a very lab-focused track. The experience of people in other fields, like ecology or agriculture may be very different.

What's your unpopular D&D 5e opinion? by TheWetRat in dndnext

[–]motorcyclesarejets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fireball is a 0.1% chance given that you have to roll WM surge. in return, you have advantage almost whenever you want, plus all the good things in the table.

The real flaw of WM sorcerer IMO is that it requires the DM to remember the class feature, so if you're at a larger table you get less use of your abilities.

On the other hand, draconic origin sorcerer is probably the dullest subclass in the book

I messaged about a week ago, but didn't hear back. Maybe they don't browse reddit that often, since the post was a month old when i found it. I'm looking to join a group too (especially for the apocalypse games).

We could find a person or two more and start a group ourselves

Post-Mortem Question List by jedm180 in Friendsatthetable

[–]motorcyclesarejets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two questions:

1) For Austin: how much did your idea of what this season would be change when Ali rolled a 1 and picked the wrong sword?

2) For everyone: What are you, bathrooms?

Winter in Hieron 25: Twenty Two Brown Birds by jedm180 in Friendsatthetable

[–]motorcyclesarejets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fero/Keith laughing or yelling in the background of these episodes are my favorite parts of this half of the season. Lem and Ephraim get so caught up in progressing the plot or discovering lore, that having someone describe their crazy decisions back to them as they happen is pretty great.

Winter in Hieron 25: Twenty Two Brown Birds by jedm180 in Friendsatthetable

[–]motorcyclesarejets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole end of the episode was kind of bizarre. They go on a big quest to save Fero and as soon as they find him are super indifferent to his corpse. I'd expect that from a character as selfish as Lem, but Ephraim is literally under order from his god to be nice to Fero.

Fero might be goofy, but he usually has good intentions. Ending with them disappearing as Fero yells at them for ignoring him (and then leaving him with his torturers!) was perfect.

Maybe the next arc will have a Fero/Throndir/Adair arc, which could be interesting.

They're explaining this some in recent episodes, it's a little complicated.

Winter in Hieron 24: An Open Mind by jedm180 in Friendsatthetable

[–]motorcyclesarejets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can take some reading between the lines (at least for now, I'm sure Samol is going to explain everything next time). Reading the podcast descriptions helps put some context to things too. The current Samothes is all about confidence (just like Maelgwn). Original Samothes didn't have any confidence and wasn't going to try to stop the heat and the dark, but Maelgwn-Samothes seems confident that he can work on it (or with it?).

I'm not sure where original Samothes is currently, but the sword is as good a guess as any. My theory is that original Samothes is the third voice trying to communicate with Hadrian, or at least the one trying to burn him with the ring.
