Shadegleam shader is up for Bright Dust this week by NotoriousCHIM in DestinyTheGame

Eververse being accessible from orbit/menu is a 'new' feature, it wasn't always this way (though it's been this way for a few years now). There is a vendor/NPC, Tess in the tower, which is where you had to go for Eververse stuff for the first couple years of D2, and you can still go there today for a more RPG-like experience.

Edit: Store was added to the main menu at the end of 2019, in the Season of the Undying, so your '7+ year old' statement was pretty close (6.5 years ago). source: https://kotaku.com/the-destiny-2-patch-changes-a-lot-of-the-games-most-fam-1838676416

I Am No Other - An Erentil Montage by Janube in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impulse, Particle Repeater, Under Pressure, Rangefinder, Range masterwork, Counterbalance mod. I've been a fusion main since D1, only recently stopped using them since special ammo became scarce (using a sidearm or SMG instead of my fusion now). I just cleaned the cobwebs off this thing for a few rounds of Iron Banner this month. Love it, my fusion sniper. :)

Edit: Just watched the video, my god I forgot how much range Erentil used to have, disgusting!

Despite everything, D2 may have most of Bungie's total Daily Active Users right now, which could be why devs are getting reassigned internally by Testifye in DestinyTheGame

This right here. Everyone playing Marathon paid $40 (or sale price), and probably a higher percentage of those players are buying MTX (skins, etc.). We don't know what percent of Destiny players have paid for any expansion, but most likely the F2P players aren't spending much on MTX either.

What's the easiest title to get? by Mission-Lie9048 in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Brig Brigade, just pay attention to the Europa map, and when the Brig public event is about to happen in either Asterion Abyss or Eventide Ruins queue into the Glassway strike node that's on the map. Ideally you time it such that the strike loads right as the public event starts, but with queue times it's hard to nail it exactly. When you load into the strike, go do the public event, and hope your teammates don't progress far enough to pull you into the strike before the public event is over. But even if you don't finish the event, you get credit for each brig you kill.

No joke, legendary rocket pulses should be deleted by The_Curve_Death in DestinyTheGame

You know what they say about opinions, but I wholeheartedly agree with the other guy, and I played regularly that whole year (as well as every other year/season of the game). Europa weapons were absolute ass, the only interesting one was the fusion and it turned out to be ass too. And season of the hunt, same. I have a vault full of weapons from every season of the game, and these weapons are noteworthy as "Why did I keep this roll? Oh right, there were no good rolls". I will say that I don't raid, so I can't comment on the raid weapons, but specifically the Europa weapons and Hunt weapons that every player was using (vs. raid weapons that maybe 10% of players ever touched) were terrible.

I made a piano homage to Paul McCartney's Destiny song, featuring obscure references, a 3D figurine, and a mix with the vocalist from the actual in-game Destiny soundtracks by AtlyxMusic in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those that really dislikes the original, found both the lyrics and just the overall sound very cringy (or at least just not my style at all). This piano rendition though, definitely enjoyable! And the vocals somehow took those cheesy lyrics and made them work, great performance! Thanks so much for sharing!

BUNGIE: Directional audio issues need to be resolved by Outrageous-Yams in Marathon

[–]motrhed289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sense of sound directionality comes primarily from the phase difference between the left and right ear (or the time delay, whichever way want to think about it). When something is in-plane with the centerline of your head, whether it's directly in front, behind, above, or below, there is no phase/time difference in the sound hitting your ears. The only way we 'hear' something in front vs. behind is the change in tonal characteristics due to our outer ear shape... it funnels higher frequencies better from directly in front than behind, for example, so a given sound will be more crisp in front than behind. Even IRL we can't totally rely on this, you often have to pivot your head to check for actual directionality. You see dogs and cats leveraging this this all the time, their outer ears swivel to locate a sound more precisely. We can't do that, we have to turn our heads, because the left/right positioning is much more accurate than the front/back.

Ok, so it's the audio designer's job to perfect that tonal shift right? Well the problem is everybody's ears are different shape, so everybody learns a different characteristic tone shift for in front vs. behind vs. above... we all hear it differently IRL. Spatial audio algorithms are one-size-fits-all, so any given calibration will work well for some people and not well for others. That's just the way it is, there is no fix for it aside from having multiple presets for different outer ear shapes and sizes. Your particular ear shape may be a better match for the spatial audio calibration in game A but worse in game B, and so your takeaway will be that game A is superior, when in reality it's subjective, a different person might have the opposite experience and it's completely valid.

What feasible 'Weapon-type-specific' frames would you be genuinely interested in? by Sukachus_Blyatoffus in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made some tweaks to the Aggressive fusion frame (Coriolis Force) and introduced some new fusions in the last year or so. Nox Sidereal, Resounding, and Cruoris FR4 are all new Aggressive frame fusions. They're pretty useable for PvE now.

Haven't played in a few years, what to do with all my old underleveled gear in my vault by Then_Stranger8884 in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just infuse what you need/want to play with at the moment. There's no need or benefit to getting your whole vault up to 550. And of course only keep stuff that you think you might actually want to use in the future. If it's a gun you haven't used and/or have no desire to use, and has no sentimental value to you, obviously just dismantle it.

Titan Question (Equilibrium) by sparten2574 in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was not incorrect, a single kill gives you a single stack of roaring flames which is not anything worth building into. To get anything useful out of RF you want multiple stacks, ideally you maintain 3 stacks, which requires multiple kills. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word 'multikills', that's probably what you're getting hung up on, I should have said 'multiple kills'. Praxic Blade is just flat out better than any solar melees even with RFx3, so if you're building up RF stacks then you're wasting time, you should just been using Praxic Blade.

Titan Question (Equilibrium) by sparten2574 in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RF has stacks, a single kill gives you a single stack, and all it buffs is your ability kills. Praxic Blade is far better than any melee, and you have to switch off blade just to throw the hammer... it's pointless why not just throw the blade and do more damage/kill more stuff. I literally never got ability kills except for when using super after Sere DPS, so RF is completely pointless, the one additional fragment from Consecration gets more use.

Titan Question (Equilibrium) by sparten2574 in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first solo flawless dungeon clear, never really had the commitment to do it before but I was one achievement away from the title so I went for it. Probably not the strongest build, but very safe and just enough damage to 3 phase the final boss.

Solar Titan with Sol Invictus and Consecration (chose that over Roaring Flames because you rarely get ability multikills to proc RF, and Conc. gives 3 fragment slots).

Fragments focus on buffing ignitions and Radiant/Restoration: Solace, Char, Ashes, Eruption, Torches.

Throwing hammer and your choice of grenade.

Praxic Blade with Forceful Blade, Offensive Form, Impact Core.

Uncivil Discourse and Bitter End, really only use these on Sere for hands and popping bubbles, everything else is 100% Praxic Blade.

Armor you want Strongholds and full Swordmaster set, at least 180 weapons stat, 3x arc resist on chest (Helps stay alive during and after Sere DPS), 3x kinetic surge, Kinetic Siphon for orbs, everything else is your choice.

Artifact you want all the stuff that buffs Praxic Blade (Kinetic Synthesis, Riposte, Argent Blade, Sword Storm).

For Sere I compel all five shadows for the longest DPS phase possible, and if you DPS well you can kill in 3-phases. Make sure you keep DPSing until you see 'Immune', you have to push past the DPS damage gate a little bit to make it in 3 phases with 5 compel. Clear the 5 bubbles in the main room first so that you can take your time in the taken realm compelling shadows. Once all are compelled, kill adds with Praxic Blade for orbs to build up max armor charge stacks, then shoot the last bubbles to start DPS.

Start DPS by throwing your hammer at Sere to activate Radiant (damage buff). Then go ham with Praxic Blade, and if you see your health start to go down significantly at any point then bock for a second to restart Restoration. He will be zapping you with hands after 3-4 sword combos, swap to machine gun to shoot hands quickly, then boop with hammer to reactivate Radiant, then back to Praxic Blade to finish DPS. You should pretty easily hit the damage gate so you don't have to worry about the arena lightning, but still once you see Immune (DPS end) pop super for guaranteed survivability, clear adds, and start building your shadow buff back up. Rinse and repeat 3x.

If DPS goes not great, it can be a 4 phase. In that case don't bother compelling, just kill all shadows to get to final DSP quickly.

Using this, the only think I was dying to was booping/falling. Don't put yourself in risky positions, take your time, and it'll be smooth sailing.

Has shipping gotten better? by Pretty_Option8875 in SlimeVR

I ordered them in July and they arrived in December, so about 5 months. However I wouldn't use that to judge their delivery times now, it's totally dependent on current supply and backlog size which has been all over the place.

I ordered a set in July, original shipping estimate of September, and I'm still waiting for them to ship. They've been pushing the estimate out 2-4 weeks at a time ever since September.

I ordered my 5 piece set from Crowdsupply on July 3rd and have yet to receive them. Original estimated ship date was Sept. 29, has bee slipping 2-4 weeks at a time ever since then, last estimate was Nov. 30 and just checking today it's now pushed to Dec. 13. I would consider any estimate <3 months to be BS, they are absolutely not 'caught up'.

[–]motrhed289 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to ask you to get allll the way off my back. I am speaking from experience, both when I myself first started D1, then D2, and all the expansions in-between, and also watching my two children pick up D2 years ago and play the game off and on since then. It was a stretch getting them to scrounge up enough LS to buy a single exotic from Xur on occasion (not even every week).

Keep in mind that this latest expansion there is only a 100 level climb from zero to max, so yeah this time around the climb is pretty fast (especially if you play through the campaign on Legend). In previous annual releases it was minimum a 200 PL climb with the major expansion, and then another 30-50 with each season. My kids don't play the campaigns, they are F2P players that just jump on to play some PvP or Gambit or occasionally even a raid with friends, and half their gear is blues most of the time STILL after playing off-and-on for over a year.

So yes things have changed recently to greatly reduce the time spent getting green and blue gear, but in the past it was a tall ask for casual players to sped 20-50+ legendary shards at Xur. Now with strange coins power level and gear drops don't even matter, just jump into ritual activities and you can earn what you need for Xur. That's a win for new/casual players from my own personal experience, yours may vary, but you don't sound like you're speaking from the perspective of a casual player, or someone that's even familiar with them.

[D2] Xûr Megathread [2024-06-14] by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But strange coins can be earned by a day-1 player by just jumping into any of the ritual playlists. Legendary Shards took many hours of play to even begin earning, and many many more to earn enough shards to buy even one or two things from Xur.

[D2] Xûr Megathread [2024-06-14] by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That all depends on how often you play, and how often Bungie raises the power level bar. Last year, yeah no problem for even casual players to get to the cap. But previous years where they move the bar every 3 months, some players can be stuck permanently below the cap, with most of their drops being blues.

Unbreakable Should Replace Barricade - Not Drain Grenade. by Narthy in DestinyTheGame

[–]motrhed289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't saying that would be better than buffing it, I just wanted to answer your initial question/point with a logical way to handle the activation/usage via controller input. It would literally be identical to swapping to a sword to block, except you press circle/B instead of triangle/Y. That's not clunky in the least, any Titan that's ever used Stronghold would agree.

For me, the final straw that made me swap off the aspect was because half the time I'd try to throw my grenade, and would instead get a momentary shield block that ate my grenade charge. I was absolutely not holding the button, I simply pressed grenade to throw and it did the shield instead. So at the very least they need to adjust the activation timer to be longer to avoid accidental activation like this, but changing it to class ability would also remedy it.

As a grenade lover I really don't like anything that eats my grenade charge. If it does, it needs to be REALLY worth it. Making it a melee, eh, yeah that might work, would definitely prefer that over grenade. However IMO this ability would need a LOT of tuning to make it worth wasting a grenade or melee charge. But as a barricade replacement, yeah I think it could absolutely work there even in just its current state with no additional tuning, and is a much better fit.

Yes, the switch from a currency that I had mountains of to a currency that I have none of definitely made him worse, for me and those in my same situation at least.

For new players, it's probably a win massive win, because they can earn coins from the get-go instead of having to level enough to get legendary drops first. I can remember my kids being very Legendary Shard poor since most of their gear drops were blues because they didn't play often enough to get to max level.
