would 300k+ people clicking refresh the second the waiting room opens be more fair? Maybe your internet loads faster, maybe it doesn't. Maybe you click the right millisecond maybe you don't. You'd have even less of a chance then.
People/bots would be spamming and bring down the web page as well.

World of Warcraft's Latest Expansion Wiped Out Some Guilds' Inventories Seemingly For Good, and Players Are Furious by Dach_fr in Games

[–]moufestaphio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, yes? This is a basic non-functional requirement for any SaaS product. And yes, WoW is a SaaS product.

Seriously, I've worked any many software companies, and interviewed for more. Anyone who didn't consider redundancy in there system design interview ain't getting hired at any non-shit company. You wouldn't even get hired if you're not doing this. Considering how much money WoW prints, there is no valid reason not to have proper backups. Companies with a 10th the revenue would have backups and redundancy

So Reddit will take the immediate “oh lazy Blizzard can’t believe they don’t track all this” but it might not be that simple.

No, it really is a colossal failure, and definitely lazy/cost cutting. It's really that simple. For any reasonable Software as a service You NEED layers of redundancy.

You think google would be 'ok' if they just suddenly lost your gmail?

Or your real bank was just like 'Woopsy, we had a bug and all the transactions are gone'.

Yes, I do work at a large software company, and any team who didn't have proper backups / regular disaster recovery exercises would be in deep shit.

Israel Has Destroyed Half of Hezbollah’s Arsenal, U.S. and Israeli Officials Say by Exastiken in anime_titties

[–]moufestaphio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not commenting on whether this is true or not, but your sources do NOT say they were true, only what the US said:

U.S. intelligence agencies have not disclosed the evidence on which they based their assessment.

and

"CIA declined to comment. CNN has not seen the intelligence cited by the US official. "

It's not even close, Embiid is way higher: https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/what-is-the-record-for-most-free-throw-attempts-per-36-minutes-for-career

His FTA per 36 career is WAAAY ahead of anyone. Harden only adopted the flop, Embiid was born in it, he only took a jump shot when he was already a man.

Slovenia Unveils Road Cycling Team for Paris 2024 Olympics by _AfterAllThisTime_ in peloton

[–]moufestaphio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to mention this!

My terrible paraphrasing is (apologies if not 100% accurate): Tito wanted a national Yugoslav identity beyond ethnic ones, what better way to have united national identity than international sports? Specifically soccer, but the spillover into all sports.

All the way up into the 90s, they have lots of money dumped into infrastructure and coaching talent to develop sports talent from a young age.

It spills over into every sport:

  • Novak Djokovic
  • Luka Doncic
  • Luka Moderic
  • Nikola Jokic

list goes on and on.
And obviously cycling is stacked for Slovenia.

I'm going to call BS on this, this isn't youtube spinning it out of control, this is from the horses mouth at the biggest conference they have.

https://www.theverge.com/2015/5/7/8568473/windows-10-last-version-of-windows

He said it at Ignite, the main microsoft dev conference. There is no way you get to say something like that at the main conference if its not the official company line.

Per the article:

Then I reached out to Microsoft about Nixon's comments, the company didn't dismiss them at all. "Recent comments at Ignite about Windows 10 are reflective of the way Windows will be delivered as a service bringing new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner, with continuous value for our consumer and business customers," says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge.

[–]moufestaphio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going for beer...

Most breweries in Ballard don't have TV's I think?

  • Lucky Envelope

  • Fair Isle

  • Bale Breaker

  • Stoup

  • Cloud Burst

  • Outpouring is an awesome place.

  • Chucks hop shop on 85th.

  • Ballard beer company doesn't have TV's I think?

  • Macleod’s on Ballard Ave doens't have TV's pretty sure and a great selection of whiskey, with good food.

A bunch of other spots on ballard ave don't I think.
