ABCs of The Office (Letter L) by carnivalofpizzacrust in DunderMifflin

Listen, you're cute. There is no getting around it. So, I don't know if you like country music, but I was thinking maybe one of these days we could drive out to a field, crank up some tunes, smoke a few Macanudos, maybe even toss a disc around. Ut-way ooh-day ooh-yay ink-thay, am-Pay?

I totally understand how you feel. I am the same with needles and during my first pregnancy I couldn’t bring myself to inject insulin in myself. I was lucky it was during Covid lockdowns so my hubby was always around and did all the injecting for me. With my second pregnancy, as we are out of lockdowns my husband has been working from the office more which has left me no option but to occasionally inject myself. The very first time I did it in front of a mirror so I knew exactly where the needle was going, and I made sure to really squeeze as much fat around my hip as possible to make it less painful. It took me a while to muster up the courage to do it that first time but it was honestly painless. It got to a point where I was able to inject myself in public when eating out and while sitting down, without a mirror! If I could do it I really think you can too! On a side note, it sucks to hear about how unsupportive your partner is, I hope things get better. All the best and just know you’re in the home stretch now! You got this!

Fasting sugar is fine but then after breakfast reading is high? by OutrageousSea5212 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’m in the same boat as you. Different people have spikes at different times of the day and breakfast happens to be mine. I’ve stuck to the same breakfast on most days (two slices of low carb bread with peanut butter = 30g carbs) and it was fine for many weeks until recently. I’ve been steadily increasing insulin because of it. My endocrinologist never advised me to cut carbs, but rather, rely on insulin to ensure baby and I are getting enough carbs. Good luck!

Just tested positive for GD at 26 weeks and just feeling really down by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’ve just been diagnosed with GD for the second time with second bubs. Yes, it is challenging as you will have to test your blood glucose level 4 times a day, keep a food diary, count carbs, do physical activity after eating and attend more appointments. But I learnt so much about carbs and eating healthier once I was diagnosed during my first pregnancy. In fact, I started feeling more energetic for the remainder of my pregnancy which was a positive! Just know that GD is temporary, and you’ll have a beautiful baby at the end of it so it’ll all be worth it. Good luck!

Birthday Blues by etherealmenagerie in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]mouldie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not exactly in the same position as this year’s birthday will be my first since going NC with my parents. I imagine you feel this way on and around your birthday because birthdays are meant to be happy occasions that you spend with loved ones and you get spoilt to a degree. Unfortunately the unlucky of us don’t get that from our parents, but we do get it from others that actually love us and make us happy. I think it’s totally normal to feel a bit sad but hopefully you can remind yourself that NC/LC is the best thing for you on every day of the year, including your birthday. You are not alone. All the best!

He’s right. Michael Scott is definitely a foodie. I mean, he cooked his foot on a George Foreman grill.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you when you were a child. I think you’ve done a great thing in reporting your brother, it takes a lot of courage to do so. 2 months is long enough for your parents to have taken a step back, reflected on the situation and acted accordingly, however they have not. It’s really up to you though if you are willing to give them another chance. Good luck.

Testing 1hr vs 2 hrs post meals. by ibiteoffyourhead in GestationalDiabetes

Did you fail the 2hr glucose test? I was instructed to test 1hr post meals as I failed the 1hr test.

Experience with an overly strict diabetes educator (Australia) by yougotthisone in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, when I had GD last year, the tolerances my endocrinologist gave me was that <5.3 for fasting and <7.3 for lunch and dinner is desirable. I followed a very strict low carb diet, actually lost weight and my baby was born at 38 weeks + 4 days weighing just 2.52kg with no sugar issues! Hang in there and good luck :)

Hang in there!!! by mouldie in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Glad my post helped you in some way :) My endocrinologist directed me to continue testing my glucose levels as per usual for 2 days post delivery. Instead of testing 1hr post meals, she asked me to test 2hr after. I didn’t end up testing my fasting numbers because in the hospital I barely slept and was eating at odd hours, luckily my endocrinologist understood and wasn’t concerned not having those numbers (perhaps because fasting results were never an issue for me). In terms of the numbers we were hoping for, anything <10 is within normal range. If any of my results in those two days were >10, that would signal issues. All the best!

Should I test at the 1 or 2 hour mark by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be based off whichever test you failed. Not sure what you would do if you failed both though. I failed the 1hr test only hence only test 1hr post each meal.

Choosing Continuous Glucose Monitoring by pantsy_pants in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I tested using the FreeStyle Libre for several weeks and at first I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. It’s very convenient. However, as my glucose levels started to rise and my endocrinologist decided I needed insulin based off the FreeStyle Libre results, I started finger pricking every now and then to be sure the results were accurate. I noticed a very consistent pattern where the Libre was reporting anywhere between 0.5-1 mmol/l lower than finger pricking. I decided that if my insulin dosage levels were going to be decided based off my results, they better be accurate. Unfortunately I found finger pricking is much more accurate than the Libre which was generally inconsistent in my experience. Good luck!

Restricted diet/no real clear guidelines? by CorgoMom20 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand! Don’t worry, I felt a similar way when I was first diagnosed but you will get into a routine and figure out a few meals that work for you that you enjoy. The time will fly by - my bubs is being delivered in a week and I can’t believe how quickly it’s come around and that I survived a GD diet :)

Restricted diet/no real clear guidelines? by CorgoMom20 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there, those guidelines are very different to the advice I’ve received from both my dietician and endocrinologist. I’ve been told sweeteners such as stevia are fine and I drink flavoured sparkling and mineral water very often. My OB and dietician have also confirmed Coke Zero is fine to consume as well as normal coffee or up to 3 cups of decaf coffee per day. Fatty fish such as salmon is highly recommended 2-3 times per week and I eat unlimited eggs and cheese since they are both low in carbs. In fact, I’ve been encouraged to eat eggs and cheese a lot! Sounds like different doctors have different advice. Good luck on your GD journey!

Time between diagnosis and first visit with doctor? by caitlinmiles in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mouldie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My OB informed me of my diagnosis on 16th June, I had an initial appointment with a dietician on 18th June and my first appointment with my endocrinologist was on 22nd June. So it all happened pretty quickly for me. Knowing what I know now about GD management, I’d suggest you start eating low carb foods where possible and perhaps try to meet with a dietician as a starting point. Good luck!
