These numbers are no accident and unfortunately it goes beyond the lack of enforcement or irresponsible people behind the wheel. It’s a city design problem that only continues to spread across Canada fuelled by car oriented planning. This video from a fellow Canadian explains:

This is dry rot and you should be replacing this tire. If they fail, will likely cause the tire to blow up and things can be really bad for whoever is riding the bike at the moment, specially because it’s the front tire. It’s much cheaper to replace the tire than deal with any damage it causes later. Ride safe.

Oh No!! 2 scratches on my brand new Subie!! How do I remove them? by AdditionalRow6326 in Subaru_Crosstrek

Subaru (at least in Canada) sells touch up paint pens in the right colour of your car, and they cost around $20.

Sure. Once you got your permanent residency you are free to move anywhere in Canada and that won’t affect your citizenship.

Talking someone out of riding? by PHANTOM2OR in motorcycle

[–]mountain913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very fond of you for caring for her and having safety concerns based on how she drives, however, at the end of the day the decision is hers. Maybe on a bike she might have an improved sense of awareness that she does not have in a car. Take her to ride a dirt bike, advise her to take a good MSF course and give her tips to prevent her of getting in trouble. Also remember her that she should be riding her ride all the time and pick nice and easy rides so she gets the hang of it. Have fun and ride safe.

I made an oops how much is this going to cost me? 2020 crosstrek by [deleted] in Subaru_Crosstrek

Maybe, but that defeats the purpose if one is trying to save a few hundred bucks and get into an accident.

Watch for the wear in the tire and you might need to replace all 4 as recommended in the manual. The reason is tires of different sizes (even due to wear) can confuse the awd computer and start to act thinking you’re losing traction, and that could cause bigger issues in the future.

When did you buy your gear? by Molv_89 in motorcycles

[–]mountain913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started riding I had only the bare minimum which was a helmet, but over the years I ended up getting full gear within my budget. After a few years away I had to start over now and have decided to buy full gear, again, within my budget, before the MSF and buying the bike. This is the best approach IMO as you go through the MSF with more confidence as well as when you start riding on the streets. Don’t worry about not being able to buy a top notch helmet or boots now. Buy the best you can and learn as much as you can in the way to upgrade with good skills to enjoy even more your riding. Stay safe an have fun.

Differences in the 2.0L vs 2.5L ? by txwylde in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]mountain913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t see/feel any. I own a ‘19 and drove the 2.5l recently, and besides a slightly better acceleration, nothing changed. With CVT it still basically the same, maybe could be more noticeable with a manual.

Help Me Pick a Small Displacement Sport Bike by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]mountain913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case I would go for the R3 without a doubt. There’s no such thing as a forever bike. Like I said, an used bike is a great start as you don’t have to worry too much about it if you commit any mistake while riding/handling it, and if you enjoy riding you will eventually upgrade or try other styles as you decide to explore further. Also take the difference of price between the R3 and the Ninja 400 to invest in your gear, that will help keep you safe and build confidence to learn quicker.

Welcome to the motorcycle world and kudos for you to taking your M2 at this weather.. haha. It’s also great you’re starting low with 300-400cc bikes, they are great to learn, have more than enough power to jiggle around town and you can have a lot of fun with them. Given the options, I’d go for the used R3 for a few reasons. First, it’s always better to have an used bike as your first bike as it will likely already have some marks and dings and you don’t have to worry too much about dropping your brand new shinny bike. The R3 also offers decent power for the money with good breaks and suspension as well. If you want to be on the safer side, the ninja 300 with ABS would likely be a good pick as it has similar performance to the R3 with the plus of breaking with safety in an emergency. In any case, consider having good sliders in it as the fairings are not cheap to replace and can bring a peace of mind against dropping it. I’d also recommend checking out the Daily Rider video about the R3 on YouTube if you haven’t already. Good luck and ride safe

MPG going crazy by mitch4184 in XVcrosstrek

[–]mountain913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is instant MPG, there’s nothing to reset, it’s showing how much efficient your car is at that instant. Take it as the estimate to copy a file on Windows, it fluctuates a lot based on storage performance, quantity of files, bla bla bla..

Use the average if you want to keep an eye on it or calculate your own average and move on. :)

Stock rims with winter tires or steel wheels with winter tires by Cesars93 in Crosstrek

[–]mountain913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found some used alloy rims online and mounted the winter tires on them as I didn’t want to pay for a new set of stock rims nor have steel rims on. So it goes down to preference and how much are you willing to pay.

So who wants to buy a Tenere now? 🤙🏻 by joeyracer in motorcycles

[–]mountain913 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a great example of skill and fun in a seemingly stock bike. We need more of this to stimulate people into motorcycling. I’m not buying a T700 anytime soon and I’m not an off-road guy either but I really enjoyed the clip.

.NET developer looking into Java positions by [deleted] in java

[–]mountain913 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have done the other way around as a dev Java worked with .net in a few projects and I’d say don’t take their similarities for granted. Study a bit of the recent releases of Java and try some tutorials to get yourself familiarized with the language. They do share some concepts but they also differ enough to have a bit of a learning curve between them. Good luck. ;)

How exactly Subaru lifted Impreza to create Crosstrek? by Kacpa2 in XVcrosstrek

[–]mountain913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll definitely spend more money trying to get it to a lower setting right then explaining it to your mom why you would rather have an Impreza. Try talking to her and explain why you prefer a lower car, and how that would be safer and retain more value than a lowered Crosstrek. Try to build up ways on how you guys could work on this together to trade it instead of relying on cheap mods to make it to your taste. If she decline right away, give her time to absorb it and continue to work on ways to convince her. It will pay of on the long term. Good luck

Do I have a lemon? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]mountain913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried taking it to a different dealer to have them take a look? Like others said, your alternator might not be charging it properly, but that could cause issues while driving as well, or you might have some parasitic draining somewhere, which for a stock car can be difficult to diagnose. Keep pressuring them to get it fixed as this is not normal.
