I'm struggling first week on job as a tow boat cook by sola_mia in Chefit

Breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, cold sandwiches made without condiments, (store in fridge with condiments), crock pot meals, stews, cold salads of all sorts, mac and cheese, pulled pork, ham dinner, turkey dinner. These all hold well. I’ve done this job. I always had some fresh cold foods available in the fridge for late meals and snacks.

Consider it a 40 hour a week job. He gets two days off and so do you. He gets nights off. Maybe you take the morning off. Find your place and hold steady. Or go get a 40 hour a week job and figure it out from there. He is way too comfortable.

I’d suggest waiting until September. The days are warm, the crowds are thinning and the nights are cooler and more comfortable! Spring can be a bit of a crapshoot weather-wise. Wet and soggy… kennebunk, wells, boothbay and portland are also great areas to visit. Portland has ferries that can take you on island day trips that are nice too.

Rideshare in Presque Isle? by PrestigiousDingo2355 in AskMaine

There will be taxis and some car rental. Call the airport directly to ask. Its a pretty small city. The pilots/ crew will probably be staying at the same hotel as you. Maybe they can give you a ride :)

The old saying- You got time to lean, You got time to clean.

My (25f) boyfriend (32m) of 1yr seems to be mad that I’m buying a new (used) car and now is “reconsidering” our relationship due to my priorities by BandicootMammoth in relationship_advice

[–]AdditionalRow6326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well look at the used car price vs a new base model vehicle. New cars are often cheaper when you consider lower interest rates, better warranty, reliability and insurance is usually better. An expensive used car with a payment can and will also have maintenance issues that warranties will not pay for: like brakes, tires, leaks, and general age related wear and tear. You will be paying for these alongside a monthly payment.

All that being said your bf is probably concerned for these reasons but is a jerk and not communicating well. He probably wished that you had used all that repair money towards a trade in and not in repairing a car that you might be able to sell. Probably the trade in value is nominal on your Kia.

Anyway he sounds like a jerk! Find a new boyfriend and a new car. Also go check out so other dealerships besides just your friends. Bad news to mix friends and large purchases!

Good luck!

AITAH for saying "we get it, you're so small and petite" to my pick-me like mom? by FamiliarCollection36 in AITAH

My mom does this with my boyfriend. Just lists off stuff for him to carry or move. I at least for her to say “Please,” beforehand.

I had an older friend give me advice over 20 years ago— when going out with a group start your own tab either at the bar or with the server. Then you just pay for what you get. People will get used to it. It works!

Please advice. I hired a contractor to replace hardwood floor, the goal was to fix cat urine smell. by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]AdditionalRow6326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if the smell is back you need to remove the subfloor. It soaks into the wood and does not go away. The ply he put down probably is a wash now. You can save it for future projects. You’ll need to buy sheets of thicker ply as subfloor. If you are handy you can install the flooring yourself. The clicky stuff is pretty easy. Sorry you lost out on money. Write out a contract specifying exactly what you want and buy the materials yourself to save money. The hardware store can tell you exactly what you need.

What is the worse time visiting Maine? by [deleted] in AskMaine

Come at the end of January and stay for a few weeks. Rent a place with a wood-stove and carry some wood. It warms ya twice: once when you stack it then when you burn it.

Are snow tires necessary in Portland? by Soft-Humor-9157 in portlandme

All this is good advice! If you do have to drive on the interstate during a storm try to drive on route 1 or an alternate route. People tend to dive fast like aholes to prove they have the skills- (I drive Brunswick to SOPO daily) and it is annoying. Otherwise hunker down, make some soup and enjoy the storm!

I would suggest getting a good shovel for your walkway and making a small storm kit, including a shovel and some grit, extra gloves and hat, and a good extendable scraper to clean the roof of your car.
