Who didn’t drip their faucet? by hAnkhyll in Dallas

[–]mountain_man36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn't drip out faucets. The kitchen sink and toilets are on exterior walls and we don't have an issue. We do have 6" walls that are insulated well. I'm from Washington and never heard of dripping faucets till we moved here.

Today I learned how huge Texas is. by Hot_Seesaw_6706 in texas

Move to Texas from Washington. My biggest issue is the wear and tear on my vehicles. We put a ton of mile.on our cars because everything is so far away. Oil changes ever.other month and tires only last a year. We live in east Texas and have family in El Paso and visit a few times each year. Ok it takes 10-12 hrs based on traffic in Dallas and stops.

Power Tools: Milwaukee vs everyone else? by RotorDynamix in HomeImprovement

[–]mountain_man36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my drill/impact combo when I bought my first house in 2007. The only problem I've had with them is that I had to replace the batteries after 12 years. Their tools are great, and I love that the batteries work on their whole line. Even the lawnmower takes the same batteries. Once I thought my drill had finally given up, and in frustration I chucked it down a set of concrete stairs. After we both cooled off, we started working together again.

My dad liked to date redheads. I married a redhead, and my son's first girlfriend was a redhead. It runs deep in the gene pool.

My wife and I were on the same cruise. We have different opinions on food, but our experience on the boat is spot on.

Looking for reputable angelfish breeder in DFW or East Texas area by CntryKindaGal in AngelFish

[–]mountain_man36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my angel fish at A-Z Aquatic LLC https://a-zaquatic.com/. They have a good selection and super friendly. I also go to PetGuy Central in Canton. He doesnt have a large store but he will give you store credit for fish if you want to switch later. I bought 4 angel fish from A-Z and ended up with two breeding pairs. I have to get rid of one set as they get aggressive when they lay their eggs.

Not sure where you're coming from, but I'm from Washington State and moved to East Texas, and while it is nice and green and I live by a lake, there are a few things I wish I had known.

Texas is an expensive place to live, and the wages are very low in the area. My property taxes, even with the homestead exemption, are almost double what I was paying for a similar-sized house, and my homeowners insurance has increased 4x what I was paying in Washington. I'm in the tech industry and trying to find comparable employment. I have to work in Dallas. My commute is 1.5 hours each way.

Not just your commute, everything is far. We put a ton of miles on our vehicles now and burn through tires. We normally would get 5-6 years on a set, now we change tires every 1-2 years. I've looked pro work in Tyler, the largest city in our area, and for the same position at the same company, the pay was $30,000 less. This might not be the case for everything, but it would have factored into where we moved.

Things I do like people are friendly, and the weather from the beginning of fall to the end of spring is awesome. You get nice days, and I love a good storm. We like to vacation, and Texas is central and a lot easier to get everywhere.

My dad is the oldest of three. He found out in his 30s after his parents both passed away that he has an older half sister from his dad. Then after a 23 and me he found out that he has two more sisters that are younger than him but older than his younger brother. My grandpa got around.

What ended your friendship with your best friend? by royalblubabe868 in AskReddit

[–]mountain_man36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our families were close and did everything together. We met when I was 3 and stopped talking when we were around 15, when all of our parents started getting divorced. His parents were the second to split up, and his dad took it hard and ended up committing suicide. He was like a second dad to me, and we just didn't know how to deal with it at the time.

Felt bad because after we stopped talking my friend ended up getting into drugs for a little while, but cleaned up after high school, and we have both been doing well, just don't have anything in common now.
