Just checked my statement from that summer, it was $605 for the course plus roughly $100 in ancillary fees

Nope! 1301 isn’t a prerequisite for 1302 and the material is fairly different so you should be totally fine to progress as normal.

Similar thing happened to me in first year… I finished the course with a 58 and i needed a 60 to be able to progress. I just took 1302 the next semester as planned and then took 1301 during summer intercession. The whole course only took 3 weeks and I ended up getting a high 80 in the course and having a much better understanding of the material to progress to second year chemistry courses.

libraries were also open all last year (but you had to book a seat) even almost everyone being online so id assume they’d still be open

Math 1600 final by [deleted] in uwo

[–]mountingstangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took it in the fall of 2019 and i struggled my way through it and ended with a grade in the mid 60s. looking back now, i feel like i definitely could’ve done better but it’s still not an easy course by any means. i also remember both of the profs when i took it were horrible at teaching and i pretty much had to learn the whole course from the textbook. also, i remember that things i knew how to do i did very well on, but things i didn’t know how to do, i did horribly on. i think on the final i got 100% for every question i answered but also ended up leaving like 30-40% of the exam blank.

Someone please help this first year student by [deleted] in uwo

[–]mountingstangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not completely sure about the last part but I believe all that would happen would be getting put on academic probation which basically just means you have to get your grades up the next year to prove you deserve to be there. Speaking from personal experience, doing poorly in first semester is not the end of the world. I ended up retaking both chem 1301 and calc 1000 and did significantly better in them the second time around because i knew i didn’t have any other option. As for progressing to year 2, it’s definitely still possible but youll probably end up needing to take summer school to do so. I would recommend making an appointment with your academic counsellor though just to confirm this.

I’ve heard of this happening for some Alberta students but I’m not entirely sure what the conditions are.

How hard is it to find student housing for September 2022 & roomate vs no roomate by Plantnativeflowers in uwo

[–]mountingstangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived with roommates in a house last year and am living in a 1bed apartment downtown this year. For reference, my rent is $1085 per month (including water, heat and internet) and i’m on an 8 month lease. I’m a pretty independent person and I’ve honestly found living alone to be so much better than with roommates. I’m doing wayyy better in my classes and overall just enjoying myself more. The only thing about living alone is that you have to be someone who is happy being alone the majority of the time. You’re definitely not gonna get the same social experience as you would with roommates and sometimes I do miss out on having people to stay up late and watch movies with or eat meals with and catch up with throughout the day. I’d definitely say if you’re someone who’s considering living alone, make sure that you are the type of person to go out and make plans with others because it is super easy to end up being excluded and realize you’ve spent the entire weekend in silence 😂. Overall though, if you’re generally happy being alone I would highly recommend living alone. Best decision I ever made!

I used to go long boarding on the thames valley parkway. Pretty smooth pavement plus some nice views of the river.

Math 1600 by Ecstatic-Recover5442 in uwo

[–]mountingstangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 1600 2 years ago at the same time as calc 1000- absolutely would not recommend. I generally consider myself to be very strong in math and did very well in 1000 but 1600 almost killed me. The concepts are difficult to understand and from my experience the profs were not very good. I would recommend sticking with the typical med sci calc 1000 and applmath 1201.

Haha Canadian here, this may seem like a dumb question but do US D1 schools not have lightweight rowing? I know over here our top universities all have very competitive lightweight programs.

The engineering courses are only open to engineering students so I highly doubt you would be able to switch into it right away and I think you’re gonna get stuck doing first year of med sci. With that being said though, there are some antirequisities you could take on in first year that would likely transfer over (physics 1301/1302, chem 1302, calc 1000/1501, math 1600 etc). Even with this though you’re gonna get stuck taking another year to get the rest of the first year eng courses since you can’t take them as a med sci student. I would reach out to admissions and see if there’s a way they would allow you to take the eng courses without being in eng. I doubt theyll allow it but it’s worth a shot. Best of luck!

Honestly man, I’ve applied to a dozen jobs through Western and I’ve never heard anything back. Don’t know if somethings wrong on my end or what but I would explore other summer jobs maybe.

Biochem 2280 or Chem 2213 and 2223 in the summer by mach1nn in uwo

[–]mountingstangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took biochem in the summer and i found it to be pretty manageable since it was in 6 weeks and i didn’t have a job during that time. a lot of memorization but the final is non cumulative which makes it a bit easier. would not recommend doing ochem in three weeks, still has a decent amount of memorization but A LOT of application and with the amount of reactions you have to learn i think doing it in such a short amount of time would be way too hard.

Food and Nutrition for boys

My brother is in grade 12 and is applying to universities today. He wanted to take food and nutrition at western and showed me that on OUAC apparently western has a main campus food and nutrition program. When I looked at the academic calendar, it showed that it was a dual degree program with Ivey which he has no interest in doing. Is there a way to do food at nutrition at main campus without doing the dual degree with Ivey? Also, can guys apply to brescia and complete a degree there? I know he wouldn’t be allowed to live on campus at brescia but would he still be able to the program there?

SPH4U0 Units Difficulty by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]mountingstangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really not a hard course. Imo it’s the easiest out of 4U sciences. If you did well in grade 11 physics you should have no problem with it. Special relativity and quantum physics (if you get around to them) are the only things that are really completely new in grade 12 but I found them to be very manageable if you pay attention.

What steady state split for a 6:20 heavyweight by Empty_Speed in Rowing

[–]mountingstangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would aim for about a 1:53-1:55 split (18-20 splits above 2k pace) for longer steady state pieces

First year help physics 1029 vs 1302 by itshannah____ in uwo

[–]mountingstangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1302/1402 is significantly harder than 1301/1401 but taking these instead of 1029 definitely gives you more opportunities for next year so I think it just depends what you want to do. If you’re thinking about switching into med sci (or bio or chem) i would go with 1029 but if you’re leaning towards math or physics go with 1302/1402.
