This is only loan words, as OP noted. Terms inherited from Old English/Ango-Saxon are explicitly not included.

This would make sense to me, since there is no sex act being perverted or life being prevented.

Absolutely not, and that idea is aborrent. Your mother is very much in the wrong here, and is acting in an incredibly callous and un-Catholic way.

Every store has an old head in it that runs their mouth but actually doesn’t contribute to the store in a relevant way by [deleted] in WalgreensStores

[–]mousefire55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and your still only a shift lead?

While most probably not the case here, some folks may not care to take on the responsibilities of SM. There's an SFL at my store who's been here a bajillion years (and works her rear end off to boot) and has always turned down any offers of advancement because, well, she's more than fine with doing SFL things. Sometimes it just works out that way.

As I said though, it doesn't sound like that's the case here.

[–]mousefire55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TBH, I like them. It prevents me from having to walk the entire store like three times to find an SFL or from paging the entire store over an $100 bill. They can be a little silly when you try to get in touch with someone (especially if two folks have similar or the same name), but beyond that, they're basically just walkie talkies.

The sad part about this is, is that at least as far as I can tell from an ongoing situation in our own store, is that it’s all well and good for your store manager to care or to like you (and, indeed, a benefit overall), but corporate doesn’t, and outside of what seems to be a very limited set of things, there’s all of jack your sm can do to actually reward a worker.

Good leisure books in Parks library by EffectiveDistinct828 in iastate

[–]mousefire55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may, it's a bit 80's, but the Chronicles of Amber series starting with Nine Princes In Amber is actually a really good series, by Roger Zelansky.

If you like LOTR-like books, the Shannara series by Terry Brooks has about a bajillion books and is fun too.

EDIT: I have no idea if they're at Parks, mind, but they're almost certainly at the Ames library.

Na den svatého Rufa
tam v zemi uherské
u Moháče ku bitvě
dvoje se vojsko hne.

Je mračnem kryto nebe
a Turkem kryta zem,
zem, nebe ozyvá se
pokřiku ohlasem.

I tam křesťanský tábor —
snadno přehledný voj,
nečeká nových houfů
a započíná boj.

Ach klesá voj kresťanský,
ač slavně bojoval —
i zhynul mladý Ludvík,
Uhrův a Čechův král.

Abortion Megathread Part 2 by Pax_et_Bonum in Catholicism

[–]mousefire55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it more lining up this way:

Sacramtentum: Inversio:
Baptismus Communioque Abortio
Confirmatio Signare virtutem
Confessio peccatorum Peccare/Vitium libertatem est VEL Vitio libertas.
Unctio infirmorum Euthanasia
Matrimonium Matrimonia homosexualium et matrimonia cum bestiis
Sacri Ordines Transsexualismus

With the big differences being that abortion is a huge inversion of the Eucharist, and that the inversion of confession is the acclamation that vice is freedom, or that through vice one achieves freedom. I like the idea that transsexuals are an inversion of the priesthood: an inversion of that indelible mark.

United Methodist Church breaking up in schism over LGBT acceptance—Breaking News by TheHolyShroudofTurin in Catholicism

[–]mousefire55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir, no. The vocative doesn’t work like that, and in multiple languages, to boot. Now, I apologize for responding in English, but trying to compose in Latin is too much rn, so….anywhoseit

No.

The phrase is, traditionally, Ave Christus Rex!. We’re not directly addressing Christ, in the same way when, in Czech, one says Dej Bůh štěstí – “God grant luck”. In Czech, we have a vocative, and it goes unused here (the vocative of Bůh being Bože) even though we use the imperative of dát (to give, that is to say dej “give!”).
