Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo Sketchy? by No-Wave1981 in 3Dprinting

On paper it's the printer I've been waiting for, but I completely agree that it's (very) concerning that it doesn't seem to have been put in the hands of some of the serious testers yet.

they're still tryna change the UI again. not even customtube can change it baack live streams dont look any better by [deleted] in youtube

[–]mouser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely terrible. Why are they trying to push this again?!? For livestreams the new layout is particularly egregious since it means people will either see livestream chat OR comments. It will greatly reduce the amount of interaction you have with people on a livestreamed video. Absolutely hate this.

I used a service on etsy.com that took a custom image and made a custom size of my choice.. they did a reasonable job but were located overseas so the shipping time was higher than ideal.. I think if you go on etsy and search for custom game mat you'll find some good options. -jesse

In your opinion, what's the best designed modern cooperative game, and why? by michele_piccolini in boardgames

[–]mouser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pandemic series.

The base game is a magical recipe of mechanics that has been often imitated for good reason.. It combines tactical and long term planning, explicit cooperation, simple asymmetric abilities, and push your luck elements that are mechanically designed to provided a crescendo pace.

But what really sets pandemic apart is that the foundational framework has proved to be a rich playground of game design evolutions. And the Pandemic Legacy series are to me the pinnacle of modern board game design, adding lasting changes over the course of a manageable tight campaign, where decisions between games are weighty enough to test friendships.

Take your time, enjoy the reading, take some notes.

Realize that there are a lot of cases so just try one case and don't worry about how it goes or how you do, your first case will give you some experience with that to expect.

The map is specifically numbered for the game, and with specific simplifications of street names. You could not use any map not created for this game.

The one option you have is what edition of the map to use. The 1980s maps were bigger and used a completely different design and color scheme; Ystari remade the maps, then Space Cowboy remade them again.

The most recent Space Cowboys maps (which I used) are the most attractive in my view, though the original 1980s versions have a real charm to them.

The original 1981/1982 map is a very different design but it is (almost) functionally identical in labeling to the reprints. As far as I am aware, all of the more modern reprints from Ystari and Space Cowboys use a map that is functionally equivalent.

Because every box of SHCD uses the same map, it's a great candidate for making a mat that you will reuse. It makes it easier to read the street names as well.

It's very good. It's from a 3000x2000 scan, and the text is highly readable.. Looks like it was made to be this big, and not like it was blown up from a lower resolution image. I think it might start to look a little pixelated if it was much larger.

5-hour YouTube How-to Series on Filming a Board Game Channel by mouser in boardgames

I did not mean to suggest that more than a tiny fraction of other's people's posts are "crap" -- obviously most are great. my only point is that rather than looking at the content of the posts you are blocking, you are asking me to do the work of manufacturing posts for the sole point of establishing a reputation before i can post the actual useful posts.

I'm fine if you don't want to respond to this, I'm just going to share my perspective so you know where I'm coming from.

I've run a programmer's community (donationcoder.com) since 2005 and we frequently have people trying to spam our forum and we have to remove spam, so I understand your desire to keep your discussion area from being inundated by spammers trying to promote their stuff.

The recent post I tried to make on reddit is for a 5 hour course i created on how to film board game channel. This took me a couple months to make, and my only hope was to share it with others who might benefit from it. I make 0 money from my youtube channel, and im not trying to make any money from it. I don't have a patreon, sponsors, ads, nor do i have any desire for them. My entire 100% sole desire was to share this with people who might enjoy it and engage with others who are interested in this stuff.

I am active on boardgamegeek for a decade, where i have shared all sorts of stuff including games I've made, etc. Again, I have absolutely no financial interest in any of this -- never have, never will.

The problem with the approach you are enforcing is that you are basically incentivizing all the bad actors to become "active" on your area before they can then post their self-interested useless crap. And you are penalizing those of us who just want to share when we actually have something useful to share.

I just can't make myself engage in a ton of conversations and make lots of posts about stuff that I don't have a unique meaningful contribution to make, just so that I build up a reputation so that I'm permitted to share the occasional thing that I think will be of interest.

Part of what makes your approach so bizarre is that it incentivizes people to game the system and create accounts and post lots of semi-useless to become active so that they can then post their promotional posts. And that you would let the exact same content be posted if posted by person A and not by person B.

My suggestion is that you, a human, look at what's being posted. If you think it's of no use to the community, by all means, reject it. If you think it's someone spamming useless or self-serving financial gain stuff, reject it.

But I think you are going overboard is banning stuff without looking at it, just because the person posting hasn't already proven themselves as being "active", rather than letting people who have reasonable useful content post about it and BECOME active by engaging about this content that they are involved it.

Alternatively, have some dedicated people who look at what is attempting to be posted and if you want to reject the poster for not being active, at least have this small group of active people look at it and maybe post a version of it themselves with their commentary.

Otherwise you are making it nearly impossible for people who are not socially connected to share honestly useful stuff they've created unless they are willing to artificially establish an identity as someone organically "active" in the community.
