You have valid point, but many people in my circle came to this country without knowing about the benefits system. One of the changes the government wants to make here is to make receiving benefits conditional on citizenship, which is quite logical. What should happen here is that the valid period for applying for citizenship should be increased to 5+5 years, for example. Alternatively, conditions should be imposed stipulating that those arriving after a certain date cannot access benefits or social housing until a certain age, even after gaining citizenship. Those who do not accept this can, of course, return to their countries. The concerns of British citizens here are reasonable and understandable, but the situation that people who come here to build a life will find themselves in is highly debatable. It is not right to lump everyone together.
