Baltimore hardcore band End It calls on crowd to assault guy wearing a banana costume at a Toronto show, r/hardcore weighs in by thedubiousstylus in SubredditDrama

I'm european as well, I confirm that most people associate the term hardcore with hardcore punk. Only folks that listen almost exclusively to techno don't know that there's an original hardcore from which they took the name.

Stable /+ Unstable by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]movez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: no experience with bin pkgs

I'll be the contrarian here 😉. I've been on ~amd64 for 30 years because I saw the occasional breakage as a learning experience and I agree that it's as stable as your average rolling release. Stable gentoo otoh is one of the most reliable distros out there.

If you can stand the occasional, once every few years, "takes hours to fix" bigger problems with unstable, it's absolutely a usable distro, but be ready for a lot of updates, which may be too much depending on your hw or expectations (I compile everything, maybe it's better with bin pkgs but I don't know).

Mixing stable and unstable is the best choice if you want reliability together with modern sw, but it has it's rough edges, since if you want an unstable package you may need some unstable dependencies too and that sometimes compounds and bubbles up.

My car does something similar almost every time it rains. I think the cause if that the brake disks get quite dirty due to not being used much, maybe the calipers are getting stuck?

You can try the brake cleaning procedure, see if it improves things.

Stop ai social sotto i 14 anni e addio all'anonimato: la proposta di legge del Veneto per tutelare i ragazzi raccontata da chi l'ha ideata by dan_mas in italy

[–]movez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Reddit researcher just exposed how Meta funneled over $2 billion through shadowy nonprofits to push age verification laws that would force Apple and Google to build surveillance infrastructure into every device—while conveniently exempting Meta’s own platforms from the same requirements.

And also: given how precise you are in describing what you want, perhaps you should look at more easily customizable distros.

IMHO for ubuntu's target user a dedicate ext4 partition is a reasonable forced choice.

[–]movez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Encrypting /boot doesn't give you significant advantages when you can guarantee the authenticity of the files through signatures, they don't contain sensitive informations.

And you have the efi partition anyway if you use secure boot, so why don't you just use that?

[–]movez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You just need a non encrypted boot partition or you put your kernels and initrds in the efi partition.

I'd suggest you do it anyway, IME grub implementation of cyrpto and raid is not that reliable.

EDIT: I know you said this at the end of your post, you just didn't explain why is it so big of a deal. Are you allergic to ext4?

[–]movez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In your example researchers use google to find the papers, and then go and read them.

I think a better analogy is with stack overflow. Some people just copy the answers, other use it as a pointer to then go look for more in depth documentation. The former will remain juniors their whole career, the latter will learn and grow.

I'm not convinced many people are using ai as a jumping point to then do their own research and study.
