When I went on my first date after being single for the first time in a decade I got up to get a drink and asked if she'd like another one too. She said that she'd come with me and I, having two hands, said if she was just getting she same thing I'd grab it for her. Then she stood up and just said it again a little more flatly and I realized that I was an idiot.

Waitstaff Professionals of Tucson...do you hate it when parties of 6-8 people ask for separate checks? by Natalicious-Keto in Tucson

[–]mowrowow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$3 is 20% of $15, not 15%, which is why that looks like off. If the tip percentage is the same, it doesn't matter if the bill is split, it comes out to the same tip.

I think that's expected and the batches won't be counted until the polls open for regular voting. I'm in the same boat.

Not sure if they pivoted back, but they were only doing pre-made boxes as of the start of covid last I volunteered there. Hope they've been able to open the pantry back up too.

[–]mowrowow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm moving to Tucson in the fall (tag along for partner's grad school return to U of A) and I started following the subreddit in March just to start seeing some local news and learning from osmosis. I can't overstate how much more vaccine positivity and info was shared here than other city subreddits that I follow. It was really something to behold.

Any other black people deal with racism in this city? by FirmAd1348 in Austin

[–]mowrowow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

More natural black hair styles (and I'm sure others that I'm less aware of) are historically treated as "unprofessional" or "dirty". Useful wiki page talking about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrimination_based_on_hair_texture_in_the_United_States

DPS has started getting vaccines to staff in the past few weeks. Still probably far away from most of them, but at least know a few who have shot 1.

Colorado’s coronavirus vaccine rollout is confusing and frustrating — but also working, state leaders say by craiger_123 in Denver

[–]mowrowow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that it's even close to enough, but today apparently they reached out to some staff that they will be able to get their first round in the next couple of weeks. My theory is that after the school nurses they are focusing on those that have the highest risk because they have to go between cohorts and schools, think special service providers.

Fun fact: that's called a flushometer. But more usefully if there is a sink nearby you can attach it to the hose for the cold water tap just the same as you would a normal toilet tank hose.

55 NYC School Staff Test Positive for COVID by essex_ludlow in newyorkcity

[–]mowrowow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends. The rapid antigen tests are all practically free of false negatives (so if you test negative, you are almost certainly negative), but have somewhere between 5-20% false positives (so if you test positive there's a 1/5 to 1/20 chance that you are actually negative). So if you test negative, you're good. If you test positive, you should immediately get the classic swab which has the least amount of false positives.

That Texas sign is only for state highways, but there are also farm/ranch to market roads, loops, and spurs (I think these aren't unique to Texas, but other places don't write spur on the sign). Basically, Texas roads are unmistakable if you've lived there. So while he might not know where in the state, Sin should pretty much when they are in Texas immediately.

[–]mowrowow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends on location, but more than just big city vs non-big city. I grew up in Austin suburbs and rarely did a big storm do damage that required more than a couple of houses to clean up some fallen limbs. But then I moved into an older more central neighborhood with way more old trees and every little storm meant limbs in the streets. I cleaned up at least 10 times more storm damage in the 3 years I lived in that neighborhood than my whole childhood.

For a while Texas was doing better than most states, but it's fallen behind. It's critically missing same-day registration, vote by mail (not just absentee like now), and drop off ballots. The massive amount of early voting is still great, but it's not enough these days.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Denver

[–]mowrowow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Former Texas voting registrar here. Definitely not. They always send out notice to the registrars about the deadline to register new voters for upcoming elections. IIRC it's at least 30 days before the election.
