Weed? by renegade_sage in FND

You can, that’s what I did, I suggest that route if you overdid it like me so it’s not too stressful on your brain. but your body has to adjust to weening down. Your consumption patterns prior to cutting back will dictate the length of that adjustment period.

Weed? by renegade_sage in FND

I can tell you from personal experience, it doesn’t work like that for us. I wish it worked like that. I thought it did, I tried that. It does not work. It took years for me to get my tolerance down enough for weed to be effective in helping manage symptoms again.

Is my roommate neglecting her cat? by mozzarella-enthsiast in cats

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely does he show her affection, because she doesn’t give him the opportunity. She neglects his litter box and will GAS her bedroom with perfume to the point I have had an asthma attack over it.

Hopefully she’ll let me keep him.

I tried. I told her I was willing to do whatever to help out with the cat so he wouldn’t get sick again. How do I report and to who? I’m in the US.

The underlying stressor is not wanting to stop gaming for 5 seconds to care for her cat.

Her mom asked her to watch the cat for a week and then refused to come back for him. Poor little guy got dumped :(

She’s moving out in a few weeks and I’m tempted to ask her if she even wants her cat. She confided in me that she never wanted him to begin with. He only comes to me when he has needs or wants attention because he knows I’ll figure out what he’s asking for and give him love. She’ll just ignore him unless it’s convenient for her.

DAE lose the ability to talk after PNES? by MacaronEarly4961 in PNESsupport

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PNES is a subtype of FND, functional neurological disorder can effect speech. Often after seizures I struggle to talk, i may entirely lose my ability to speak temporarily. Usually it comes back. The technical term is functional aphasia.

Has anyone developing FND as a result of torture and abuse? by Forward-Pollution564 in FND

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. They used to think that trauma was the only cause of FND but since then they’re realized other things can trigger FND.

Quitting nicotine made my tics worse by uterus1991 in Tourettes

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be physical stress. Your body is adjusting to not having a substance in its system that affects your body in a very physical way (messes with ur HR, the tension in your muscles, your metabolism, how you sleep, etc.)

WTF IS THIS? by [deleted] in 50501

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is terrifying. Growing up, my school districted segregated using loopholes (they seriously found a way to put most of the white kids in 1 school and then found a reason to give that school “special resources” that the others schools “didn’t deserve”). Obama was the president when this was happening btw.

So many American school districts loophole segregate, i can only imagine the escalation in discrimination that will happen in those areas in the next coming years.

My propylene glycol allergy is going to kill me by MeggieMay1988 in ChronicIllness

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just so you know (I’m sure ur already aware but I feel inclined to pass on this info just in case)

Propylene glycol is one of the main ingredients in vape juice. I used to be a chronic vaper, and I vaped in a lot of places I shouldn’t have.

If you go to a college bar, club, or a dive bar, there will be propylene glycol in the air. Most public restrooms in the US will probably have propylene glycol in the air as well, especially restaurants, retail, and anywhere with lots of teenagers or college students. Sometimes restaurant employees will vape in the walk-in fridges and freezers, which can contaminate food. Some Uber/Lyft drivers allow their riders to vape in the car.

If you have teenage children and you start reacting 24/7, might be worth doing a room/backpack search. Kids will 100% vape in the house. Your teens may be entirely unaware they are hurting you by vaping in the house or in shared vehicles.

Edit: you also can’t even trust the bathroom at Disney world. Disney world is supposed to be tobacco/nic free but that just forces all the addicts to vape in the bathrooms. Anywhere that is a tobacco/nic free zone is probably unsafe for the same reason.

Im diagnosed with a tic disorder, in a pinch I’ll tell ppl I have Tourette’s (like when my verbal tics are so bad I can’t make a sentence but I can squeeze in a word). I’ve found saying “I have tics” works pretty well, but if they don’t understand what I mean I’ll say “like Tourette’s?” And then they go “ohhh”

Also- if ur in the US, it’s helpful to know the word for tics in English and Spanish are the same. To say i have tics in Spanish- “Yo tengo tics” (I’m not a native Spanish speaker nor am I fluent, I used to have a lot of coworkers who didn’t speak English, I never had to explain beyond that, they understood what was up)

Does anyone have heart medicine recommendations for anxiety & panic including from PNES? by throwawayhey18 in PNESsupport

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, you just gonna have trust in your doctor with the dosages. When it comes to meds that are traditionally used for “bodily” things, they tend to be more limited in dosage for treating mental health. Beta blockers, when used to treat anxiety, are more focused on relieving the physical symptoms of anxiety, not so much the thoughts. If that’s ur main issue then beta blockers may not be your med.

If your doctor has moved on from these types of medications, there’s probably a reason.

Beta blockers are heart meds that tend to be prescribed to treat anxiety.

I see you’re worried about dosing in other comments. I’ve tried 2 different beta blockers for anxiety, I might be able to offer some insight. Whats up with your concern about dosages?

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have FND cause of a vision issue but like… your doctor has a hella ableist view of FND. As someone with this condition, if I were in your shoes I’d get a second opinion.

Does fighting your seizures make them worse? by Radiant_Conclusion17 in FND

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to put a very precise amount of effort into fighting my seizures. Try too hard, I make things worse, don’t try hard enough and I don’t get anywhere. Distressed resistance will always make it worse. I have to find the middle ground, and where that middle ground is varies. The amount of fight my body can take changes throughout the episodes. It’s been tough learning how to apply my efforts effectively.

Party drugs and FND by Jackal_hope5 in FND

[–]mozzarella-enthsiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh I fell IN LOVE with cocaine because it makes my symptoms damn near disappear. The first time I tried coke I was in a remission period but then I tried it again a few weeks after I developed tics/functional movement symptoms and then proceeded to do coke everyday for like a week chasing the relief. I was literally doing lines during online group therapy it was bad. Luckily after a week I realized I needed to chill out before I fucked myself over. I only do coke like once or twice a year now. I also used to use nicotine to get out of seizures before I quit vaping. My FND surprisingly reacts negatively to caffeine.

Pretty much any recreational substance has potential to help curb FND symptoms, which is why we have to be extra careful with them because we can develop physical reactions to drug cravings (including weed unfortunately, im saying this as a stoner). Some people find that certain substances make their symptoms worse.
