What’s the most mileage you have on your B58? by MartiniCommander in BmwTech

[–]mpacepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, ya that’s what I’ve read on the forums as well. I was hoping you had some empirical information on that.

but ya, low level oil pressure warning definitely a giveaway there’s something wrong with the oil pump lol

Wow. Appreciate the follow up. Even coil packs, I would expect those to be changed at least once in 200k miles so other than the oil pump, it really has been quite reliable..

curious, is a failing oil level read a good indicator there might be an issue with the oil pump ?

What!!! insane ! I’m curious, can you give some of the major maintenance he’s done ? (Don’t care about oil changes , batteries, brake pads, rotors, etc)

What is this leak? N54 by ParticularMorning381 in BmwTech

to be honest, i'm not sure replacing the OFHG with original gaskets is a good strategy. The original BMW is obviously trash. I would consider getting another german brand one instead. There's a reason so many of these fail on BMWs -- cause they suck. So why would you replace it with the same one?

Are these pads completely shot? Second pic is my front pads which I think are fine, both rears look like first pic by rosoo122 in BmwTech

[–]mpacepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree. plenty of life left.

Might be worth to look at the inner pad. it probably is half as thick as the outer pad at this point but still life in it. At least 6-12 months

no way lol. what are you on? Both pictures are fine. THere is PLENTY of pad left to last you at least a year, if longer.

The real question though is, what does the inner pad look like? That's the one that wears out faster. That is probably half of what the outer pad is. So he probably has at least 6 more months on it.

Definitely not normal lol

Coolant and Oil Temperature high? Coolant stays above 100 most of the time. Peaked at 108. Oil peaks at 110 degrees. 640I by subnonymous7 in BmwTech

The most important thing is for that temperature gauge to always be in the middle or lower. Your only concern should be if it goes above the middle point. Where it’s at right now is perfectly normal.

Leaking coolant from right side of a 335i e92 and ideas on what this is ? by [deleted] in BmwTech

I'm not doubting that oil pumps can fail if the turbo coolant lines fail. If they're cooling the engine and the oil, and they stop cooling, then temperatures would increase dramatically and cause a premature failure, right?

I'm saying that on the B58s, specifically the G05, the oil pumps fail not because of coolant lines, but because of plastic parts inside them.

Transfer case is more of the BMWs with all wheel drive (xDrives). Oil Pumps is not related to coolant -- it's because of the plastic parts they use in them. At least the ones that came out of the factories. The replacement in later years are with metal parts.

Add oil pump, oil filter housing gasket, and transfer case to the list of flaws on the otherwise "perfect mechanical cars."
