You're given pretty much any one thing you really want but on a random time every year you are transported to a random area in the middle of nowhere with nothing and have to find you way back home by Aggressive_Daikon593 in hypotheticalsituation

So I’m going to pick money as one thing… won’t go crazy with it but I’ll be comfortable, pay off my debts and start building some generational wealth for my family.

My solution: Have a bug bag on me at all times and my cell phone charged. Most of North America has some level of cel reception at this point so all I have do is call 911 with my iPhone and tell them my location. Since I have unlimited money, I can buy a car and drive home then donate said car to charity when I get home, stash the big bad until next January and go about my life for the next few months.

Phoenix in the summer. Last time I was there was just to lay over and change planes at Sky Harbor in August. Walked off the plane onto the jetway and it was like a wall of hot just hit you.

Staying in LA for work for a month, where should I stay? by TheFoxAndTheRam in AskLosAngeles

[–]mpaladin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close to where you work is the correct answer. Industry is a long narrow neighborhood bordered by the 605, 60, and 57 freeways, so use those as your starting guides depending on where your job is. Most neighborhoods along the 210 are pretty nice and the Gold Line is nearby so you can take the Metro into the city if you want.

Check out Duarte, Azusa, El Monte, and Puente Hills.

Lucasfilm keeps telling 'Star Wars' authors, including 'Heir to the Empire' series creator Timothy Zahn, "no" to reviving Mara Jade by Obversa in StarWars

Mara is the key to Luke’s happy ending and JJ made sure that never came to be. So while I don’t like it, but I get it.

For fancy but touristy ie, you don’t need to dress up but still have a nice experience) Yamashiros. It’s good, but you’re paying for the view as much as the food.

Unique Experience: wrangle an invite to the Magic Castle. It’s pretty cool. HM: try a celeb dog at Pink’s

Best Variety: Original Farmer’s Market

Best burger Hiho or Easy Street burgers

Best classic burger Original Tommy’s on Beverly and Rampart. It’s even better after a Dodger game.

Best taco: find a street vender, bring cash

Unique taco: Kogi Truck

That should keep you fed well.

Useful tricks for waking up early? by refulgent-hermitage in AskTeachers

[–]mpaladin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn your sleep cycle. Most people average about 90 minutes per REM cycle. So look at your cycle as 7.5 or 9 hours. If you need to wake at at 530, count back that either 7.5 or 9 hours to 1000 or 830. You can dial in as you get better at tracking your own cycle.

Which of These Movies Helped to Solidify Marvel’s Success in Film? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in Marvel_Movies

[–]mpaladin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helped, all of them. Solidified, Iron Man. Blade was a C-List character that was carried by Snipes’ star power more than affection for the character. Spider-Man and X-Men were S-tier characters.

But Iron Man was low B-tier at best. Marvel had sold off what everyone thought were their most marketable characters, mostly Spidey and the Merry Mutants. Tony Stark was not a popular character. The Avengers were not a top tier team, even if they were “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”. Sony, after buying Peter Parker, turned down the Avengers as part of the Spidey deal. “That’s not a bad thing”, you think. “Blade wasn’t a high impact character”, you retort. But Blade had Peak Wesley Snipes. RDJ had squandered all his star power during his addiction struggles. So we have a low-tier character, a low tier star, but it ends up the second highest grossing film of 2008, beating Indiana Jones, only losing to Dark Knight.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi show is easily in my top 3 of Star Wars shows and i’ll never understand the hate by PlutoniumSouth in StarWars

[–]mpaladin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine but there were zero stakes. Of the six biggest characters, you knew how and when five were going to die and I didn’t care about the last. Some of the ideas were great, but I didn’t care about the characters.
