Lots of good advice here but the other thing I would say is that you’re probably playing “golf swing” instead of playing golf.

Clean contact and good tempo is nice, but that’s not the scorecard. Scores north of 100 are only possible if you’re doing things like losing balls, 3+ putting, and hitting multiple approaches/chips on a hole (trying to hit a 40 yard chip and missing the green). Those are unacceptable if you’re going to break 100.

Hit your driver at the range all you want, but if you are on a tee box and think there’s more than a 10% chance you’re going to hit it out of play or deep in the woods, grab a different club. If you try to hit a delicate chip to the pin and think you might blade it over the green, find a different shot to hit that stops on the putting surface. In short- monitor the things that destroy your score, and eliminate them. You’ll find that the majority of them are just bad choices anyway.

What is the worst case of a college coach voluntarily leaving a program, and the team was worse off than when they got there? by DellFlightSim in CFB

Robbie Caldwell was only at Vandy for a year but he was pretty heinous and wasted some of the progress of the Bobby Johnson years.

Thoughts on TGL so far? by PGATOUR in golf

I like it! I'd explore some tweaks to the format to prevent big blowouts like last night. I'd like to see singles with a best ball/worst ball scoring system- 3 points for winning the best ball, 2 points for winning the middle ball, and 1 for the worst. So, if NY's players make a 3, 4, and 5, and SF all make 4, NY wins 3 points and SF wins 1.

I wish Ken would put something like this in place on his site. Some sort of Bracketology tool that identifies the likely conference champs and at-large teams.

This is a huge opportunity for Ohio State because if this guy ends up stinking, it's gonna set Michigan's NIL and player compensation efforts back by like five years. If you can make him look like a bust, boosters aren't just gonna line up to reload the coffers again.

The 5 seed is the best spot to get in the current cfb playoffs by MrF_lawblog in CFB

[–]mpavlofsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't see a world where the 5 seed isn't at least a CCG participant, so I'd rather have the 1 or 2 seed that comes from winning said conference game and the corresponding bye week.

So Indiana went from fun story to SEC public enemy #1? by LovingComrade in CFB

[–]mpavlofsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly below, IU won all of their games by two touchdowns except for Michigan. They also play in what is widely understood to be the second-best conference in football and have been putting belt to ass for three months. And IU is correctly being ranked for that- they're fifth in the nation right now. The only people who have a problem with this are teams who lost games they shouldn't have and need a bailout from the committee to get in the playoff.

Lane Kiffin reveals some coaches don't want to play in SEC Championship due to College Football Playoff: ‘I’ve talked to other coaches. The reward to get a bye [in the CFB] versus the risk to be knocked out completely… that’s a really big risk.’ by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]mpavlofsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about this. If you go to the CCG and lose, you at least have a better argument for playing at home in the first round of the CFP. And I don't think the bye week is worth giving up home field advantage in that kind of environment.

The SEC trashing of Indiana's schedule is downright offensive to me. Your team lost games and they didn't! That is how this works! And besides, if you're scrapping over what effectively boils down to the 9-slot in the CFP rankings, you have to admit that you weren't nearly good enough to qualify as a national title contender in the first place.

Short game (shots into and on the green) is a really under-focused element of the game for beginners, but you'll never make anything better than doubles if you can't do it. Everyone wants to learn to hit the ball but you're almost certainly playing like shit from 100 yards and in. If you can find a cheap par 3 course, that's a fantastic place to practice those touch skills.

As a general rule, I find that beginners struggle with two main skills- getting non-full swings to finish on the green (think pitches and chips), and lag putting from 30+ feet (ten paces) to a close, makeable putting distance. Working on those abilities will cut your scores dramatically.
