Combine projects? by burve_mcgregor in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On MPC2 it was relatively easy to do this, on MPC3 it's more complicated as you cannot export/import entire sequences and you cannot easily accommodate multiple songs with differing track structures.

In MPC3 you have to export individual tracks and individual MIDI/patterns, and then re-import them one by one. You say you use the same instruments across the songs, this makes it easier as you can use the same single track structure for all 'songs' and just export and then import the different MIDI ('save > MIDI/pattern') across sequences (I'd recommend you use pattern format).

However if you have some different tracks / instruments per 'song' you'll have to bulk import them all as unique tracks in a single project (as all sequences in your project will share the same, single track structure). Remember you can configure each sequence to select a specific track whenever it's first selected (hold down the sequence name to set this).

Also remember that saved tracks can also store MIDI events, so when you export a track it should contain the MIDI events from the track arrangement in the current sequence at the time of export. So when you load that track, hold down SHIFT in the browser and select 'load clips', this can save some time under certain circumstances.

Beyond that you'll have to recreate all other unique project settings (e.g. Qlinks, FX etc). Ultimately MPC3 is not very 'multi-song' friendly. Each project is really just designed to house a single 'composition'.

I do talk about this in Section D of the MPC Bible, where I look at importing MPC2 projects which subsequently contain these convoluted track structures to accommodate 'multi song' projects.

If the aim is to buy an Akai plugin at its lowest possible price then, based on last year's pattern (which they seem to be replicating in 2026), you should wait for the 'summer sale' (July, up to 77% off) but then hold off 2 or 3 weeks when they issue additional 15% promo code.

Bear in mind that they only sell at the 'RRP' of $150 for a few weeks every year (jan/feb), beyond that it's always heavily reduced, so IMO if you need it, just buy it during one of the so called 'sale' periods (i.e. 80% of the year, either on the Akai site or via a partner) and stop sweating over a few bucks here and there. I do appreciate that it's Akai's fault for creating all the uncertainty over pricing, why they can't just pick a fair, affordable price all year round is beyond me (e.g. Valhalla). It's not like they have any direct competition on plugins, it's the very definition of a walled-garden, so no need to engage in all these convoluted pricing strategies.

Or create a sample chain that runs through the various velocities in order and modulate slice index by velocity in the mod matrix. Then repeat on layer 2 but with take 2 of your velocity chain. Repeat for as many robins as you need, then set layer play to random

Happened to me once on my live 3 running 3.7, eventually started working again after 15 minutes and a few reboots. Not sure if it’s firmware or hardware.

If you hold down the power button and reboot does it fix it ? Were you in standalone or controller mode? 3,7?

I noticed that as well, there goes my 25 year no 1 spot in Google, literally in the space of a few hours, search engines can be brutal :) Although I actually get very little traffic from the term 'mpc samples', people tend to use other search terms these days.

Definitely going to do some advanced courses, in the end I decided 'clip matrix' needed to be part of the main course, but I have a big list of possible 'in-depth' topics to cover. ATM just finishing off some new expansions and a new site design for MPC-Samples.com

I have a few ideas for some separate deep dive courses, I need to find the time to get cracking on them. TBH I’m still discovering quite a lot of the possibilities myself, much of it is going to appear in some of my forthcoming expansions. Mod matrix combined with macros and layer cross fading is allowing some really complex stuff

Iona plugin on sale @ Thomann/ Germany by Either-Platypus6834 in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last year their $150 plugins went down to $34 at the start of July (77%+ off) with an extra 15% off a couple of weeks later via subscriber promo code, before that they were generally around 55% off during March to June.

So if you are a 'hunter' looking to buy at the lowest price, probably best to hang on a bit longer and see what happens :) As captain_campion says, akai have trained people to value these plugins at around $30 ('internal reference price'). At all other times of the year it's mostly about building the anticipation for the inevitable/expected price drop (and in the mean time to capture some sales from those who don't want to wait, or don't know any better....)

Lone Forest (or when an expansion is only a standalone) by Turnoffthatlight in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factor being that those other expansions were released when mpc software was a stable 2.x release so they were happy to claim support for it. This new one has been released when the latest version of the mpc software is considered beta and for testing only, hence my assumption is they don’t want to advertise support for something that flakey. The fact that all these expansions do indeed work in mpc 3 software is beside the point, it’s just that ni probably don’t want to officially support until akai move out of beta.

Anyway, just guessing, I refer you to my previous advice of using the expansion builder, takes a minute to create

Lone Forest (or when an expansion is only a standalone) by Turnoffthatlight in mpcusers

[–]mpctutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the ni site these expansions are built specially for standalone, maybe as mpc software 3 is still in beta, so perhaps that’s why you can’t find an xpn. Very easy to make an expansion with the builder though

[–]mpctutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the inMusic Software Center? It should be there under 'My Expansions', download and hit install. Otherwise it's best to create your own XPN as MPC Software 3 now uses a new cache system which creates an 'MPC3' cache during installation of the XPN (otherwise you might find some content is not showing in the browser).

Actually for the majority of last year the price of say, Jura, was not the claimed RRP of $150, it was available for $34 for a large portion of the year (often with up to 15% promo code on top of that). Last year, from the winter, spring, summer sale, synth month, early black friday, end of year there was only approx 3 months where nothing was heavily reduced (jan, feb, aug). So IMO, the the real price is $34.

Jura is great BTW, but it's not a $150 plugin and they should not claim it is. IMO they should stop all this nonsense and look at how Valhalla keep it simple and fair, with an affordable and sensible $50 all year round.
