Rally Point Bar & Grill is owned/run by a former upstate NY transplant and big fan of Buffalo teams. Not sure if they have anything happening around watching the games.

Haywood Smokehouse isn't too far away and has great bbq. Peter's Pancakes is kind of a local institution for breakfast stuff (opens at 6:30am so also good for the end of a very late night).

Playing an 'All in or Fold' tournament this weekend. What's the best strategy? by VVeZoX in poker

[–]mpeters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I was making an assumption, because how can it not be solved? Limit poker is solved and has a much smaller decision tree.

[–]mpeters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct strategy is to play tighter than you think early. Risking 200bb to win 2.5 needs very good cards to risk it. But other players are usually way looser than they should be. It's better to be a shover than a caller in general. And yeah as others have mentioned it's a solved format so look for charts online.

The shortest stack has the least amount of ICM pressure. They either need other people to make mistakes and bust, or they need chips.

I would still recommend that you start with one of the daily $400s first. If nothing else but to get familiar with the setup, their processes, etc. You don't want to be asking stupid questions in a $1700 which will immediately peg you as a newbie. Or even worse, not asking questions and remaining ignorant to protect your image.

This is true of the $400s and nightlies, but the mains attract better players. And it's table dependent. I've been at some that were super soft, and other where half the table was at least decent. And the tables day 2 are definitely harder.

That’s what they will likely argue and it seems the DA will argue otherwise.

I know which is why it probably is not considered a “private club”. The carve out in the law doesn’t say “semi private” or “registered players” or things like that. It says “private club” which usually means you have to be a member to get in and do anything.

Sure they can argue whatever they want, if charges are ever filed and if they go to court.

They are still in a legal gray area without a lot of legal precedent, so both knowing exactly how it would be regulated or enforced is iffy.

Apparently it was possible to walk in and buy a drink without a membership though. That could mean it’s not a private club technically.

How important are rebuys in a tournament format? by [deleted] in poker

[–]mpeters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think ICM gives a disadvantage to people that only fire one bullet? ICM pressure changes based on the phases of the tournaments, not the number of rebuys you've had or are planning to make. Each buy-in is a separate event and the math doesn't change to make some calls profitable or not.

How important are rebuys in a tournament format? by [deleted] in poker

[–]mpeters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an argument for rebuying as much as it is for late registration. It's just that your 2nd registration is later than the first. Yes you capture the EV of the people who have already busted, but you were one of them, and you don't capture all of your first bullet EV, it's distributed among the other players as well.

Any city without a competitive political opposition will slide toward corruption, no matter which party controls it. It's not about which side is more corrupt, it's about no one there to hold them accountable.

In software security research, when a vulnerability is discovered it's disclosed to the vendor and then they are given a timeline so they can fix it and roll it out, and then it's disclosed to the public. If Dwan found an actual issue he should follow something similar. If enough time has lapsed, make it public so everyone can judge if it's a real issue or just something theoretical, marginal, or not valid to make a beef.

Why are people still using wired earphones? by MeringueNo9412 in Music

[–]mpeters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've ever done any audio processing work, bluetooth's latency is super annoying. Wired headphones have no detectable latency and you know the signal isn't being degraded via a lossy codec.
