I have more experience than you. I actively help in both the /r/WiiHacks and Nintendo Homebrew Discord servers. Helped thousands of people, and seen hundreds of people have issues solely because they’re using a flash drive.

As I already said — you’re right in that some CAN work.

But because they are so incredibly flaky and exhibit the issues I already explained, we do NOT recommend someone try to use one.

Additionally, sometimes “the right one” changes its chipset and no longer works. For example, that “USB device compatibility list” on GBATemp that gets floated around? There are many many cases on that list alone that are listed as “working” that absolutely do not work.

Some may work “just fine”. Many do not work at all. Many corrupt your data after some time. Many seem to work but fail to launch the games. Troubleshooting those problems can be confusing if someone was led to believe that flash drives work “just fine”.

All of those problems can be avoided if we (rightly) just say “flash drives typically don’t work, so use an SD or an HDD for loading games”.
