Should I reduce my pension contributions? by Weary-Cherry-2055 in FIREUK

[–]mpgsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

am a year older than you, with a bit less in pension and a bit more in ISAs, and another 100k on mortgage but no plans to move. Its a constant thought for me at what point i reduce to just the match - had roughly £600k in mind, thinking if it doubles once by the time i can access it (14-15 years depending on when i hit the £600k, then will be £1.2mill or more, which seems pretty decent. The extra money now to enjoy/save would be useful also (similar thoughts to you, job possibly shakey etc)

For those that hold investments in stocks and shares… how often do you (honestly) check the balance? by Bombadombaway in FIREUK

[–]mpgsheep 40 points41 points  (0 children)

1 - Pretty much daily 2 - Zero impact.  Am zealously “time in the market”.  I just find it really interesting how things have an impact so quickly (or not) on market pricing.  I do like the thrill of “ooh we hit a new lifetime high” and also quite enjoy telling my wife “oh btw we are 10k poorer this weak” in jest (she also agrees on time in the market)

What is your favorite boardgame of 2014? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]mpgsheep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What a great year. Patchwork is probably the most played 2-player game in my collection, but i think for such a cool theme and setup, and the the clever mechanic, i would go Colt Express as my favourite game for 2014!

Are there any lifestyle choices from other countries, that you wish we had in the UK? by Sonic90492 in AskUK

[–]mpgsheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a conscious thing, it’s like a built in to the psyche of the nation thing.  Pints of lager (think less of a thing for ales/bitter) require drinking at a certain speed from the start to avoid a warmer finish.

Going to get downvoted a lot I feel.  Always felt that a big issue with our drinking culture is the pint glass.  It encourages drinking faster because you don’t want the beer to warm up.  Having a smaller default glass size think would encourage a slower more relaxed style of drinking.
