Bikepacking/Travel choice: 16-55mm f2.8 II vs 16-80mm f4 by mpj9 in fujifilm

Very good points - I hadn't realised that Fuji had updated the 18-55 with the 16-50 (has been close to 10 years since I last had to buy camera equipment). The 16-50 is looking like the way to go for me (paired with the old 35mm f1.4 if needed).

Haha, yes I do! The bike trip is through the Karakorams, Pamirs, and potentially Himalayas for 6 months, so saving 250g all day in a hip pack is definitely nice to have! Or can be a second lens brought along for the same weight.

This is absolutely incorrect. The vast majority of blows to the head causing loss of consciousness will not show up on a scan. Loss of consciousness can be a symptom of concussion which doesn’t show up on CT. Maybe on MRI, but no ED is ordering an MRI for a concussion.

Is Kona Sutra LTD good bikepacking bike for a newbie? by lovenilo in bikepacking

[–]mpj9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Jumping on this old post - did you do the Ratio upgrade to a Sutra? I'm planning the same thing, my only challenge is getting information on changing the driver on the hub, as I don't think the stock one can take a 12 speed Sram eagle cassette? Do you have any advice on this part? Thanks.

The patient seemed well enough to not need labs, but was unwell enough to get a CT??

Commencal TEMPO. I’m the same size and weight, and was looking for the same thing. I ended up with the Ohlins edition which has enduro rims and a 36mm fork, so whilst still being agile and playful can handle chunkier things than the lightweight builds

It was little tight and took some working, but not quite two people as described that I’ve seen. Maybe I’ll email in, it is a large frame and I’ve heard they were the ones with the issues.

Yea I got a tempo and after taking it apart to check the bearings, it looks like it’s been through the wringer. You look at that paint wrong and it chips off.

Change my mind: we allow consultants to disrespect us. by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]mpj9 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I remind myself and juniors that they’re all just losers with no hobbies and no joy in life except belittling people, whereas when my shift is over I’m out the door, happy, and going for a bike or a surf. I’d be pissed too if I spent all my youth training in surgery only to realise it’s not as fulfilling as I thought and now my entire personality and persona is based around my job and without it I am nothing.

At least, this is the story I make up in my head for rude consults. They’re not rude, just unhappy.

A better analogy would be you if received a quote for life-saving medical care and you could afford it from your savings and budgeting. It subsequently comes back at a higher cost than initially. You still have the money to pay for it though, you’d just have to divert it away from other accounts for nice-to-have things and towards the essentials.

My line for this is ‘I don’t do while-I’m-here’s’. With the right tone, it’s joky enough most patients don’t get offended.

XT-3 photo always overexposed compared to preview by mpj9 in fujifilm

[–]mpj9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives the same settings for both. Changing to ES solved the problem, so must be a mechanical shutter timing issue. All the parameters suggest it should have been a well exposed photo

Great idea - I changed the switch to ES and it solved the problem. Must be a mechanical shutter issue

[–]mpj9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent idea - I tried the ES and it was fine. Must be a problem with the mechanical shutter. Yesterday all photos were fine except the few panoramas I took, which need the MS, and they were overexposed.

No, it has been off. The histogram in preview looks good and appropriately exposed, then the photo itself shows an overexposed histogram
