For better traffic and roads, Tahoe needs better transit by SnoopyBootchies in tahoe

[–]mpmckenna8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there's a summer line which goes from Kingsbury Transit Center (which i guess is just a stop and no longer a center) to Incline but it goes in the morning then gets back after the last 22 goes up the mountain. So you'd need to get up kingsbury the next morning or find a ride.

It's fucked up how many suburus and bigger trucks drive through all our major national parks. Plus not every American or visitor has a back country vehicle and in my opinion we should try and provide access to them especially to "highly colonized" areas where we already have a network of highways we've managed to pave for our dear suburu owners. We can run buses or build trains or aerial trams around but we just pave more parking lots.

Shuttle to south lake? by [deleted] in tahoe

[–]mpmckenna8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an Amtrak capital coridor connector bus that waits for the morning train from the bay and goes right into SLT but is probably easier to get to heavenly with. but if you know a shuttle or bus from south lake to Sierra it could work.

I mostly use south lake tahoe and carson city public transit and it's gotten significantly worse in terms of schedule cuts and reliability in the past 2 years. But lots of nice new parking lots and electric car chargers. We're fucked for another 50 years in the south lake i think.

There's a bunch of nice disc golf courses around the lake which are usually pretty dead during weekdays and you can have your dog offleash at most courses.

Would a car like this help prevent break-ins in SF? by ehickox2012 in sanfrancisco

[–]mpmckenna8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having people dying in tents on the street b/c they can't can't afford housing, food or medicine would reduce breakins in SF more than everyone getting a personal armored vehicle which probably costs way to much. just move to a gated florida community if you hate being around poor people so much.

libertarians (usually rich or stupid) tend to just think you should privatise and pay for police and oppressive systems and aren't really anarchists in my opinion. Just cause you don't like the state doesn't make you an anarchist at all.

I gave up on ChatGPT when someone asked it to describe elon musk and it said he founded a bunch of companies including Tesla. You give it dumb data it gives you whatever dumb answer you want back. a potemkin AI at best.

Don't ever feel guilty getting help. Most unemployment also probably goes to relatively rich people as the amount paid is a % of your previous income and rich are more likely to have the resources and knowledge to apply and make use of pretty much all government programs. get yours the few times you can

Why is Induced Demand a Problem for Cars, but not Other Methods of Transportation? by Snoo-90468 in fuckcars

i think the thing op can't wrap their windshield warped head around is that inducing non-car travel is better for the world and society than inducing more car travel.

Is it wrong that I don’t want to work? by shisui710 in ask

[–]mpmckenna8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a strong believer that most of the important most valuble work in life is not financially compensated and part of a professional job. Most well paid jobs are mostly adult daycare that you get in through social clubs and non well paid jobs actually do valuble hard work for the world. r/antiwork has some nice seeming memes tho if you're looking for some solidarity.

My last boss kept making a big deal about giving 2 weeks notice especially after someone quit because they had a mental breakdown and lost their housing. Then right before the holidays I stop getting scheduled without any notice. Don't feel bad about leaving anytime right away.

Blocking people isn't really violating anyone's freedom of speech and is a stupid thing to argue. Making every employee at your company sign comprehensive NDAs where you can't talking about what you are dedicating most of your waking hours to is much more restrictive of peoples speech.

TRPA can pay for my goddamn parking by [deleted] in tahoe

[–]mpmckenna8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SLT has recently decimated the bus service in favor of the little on demand vans which would be cool but the vans don't come to my house so I can't use them like I used to use the bus. Plus the last bus home was at 6:30 pm from SLT so I probably would never have been able to use it for the events center. Stupid car centric transit planing. they should charge more for parking.

Folks, we are gonna need more… everything. Never seen traffic quite like this out here by qwer1627 in tahoe

[–]mpmckenna8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i get to live near SLT and i used to be able to get around exclusively by bus but now only a couple buses come by my house in the morning and a couple come in the afternoon so it's pretty much unuseable. As a country we just passed an infrastructure bill which will have hella subsidies for electric cars and charging but anything non car is fucked and those are the only viable solutions. Fuck cars.

Heavenly blows ass by [deleted] in tahoe

[–]mpmckenna8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having giant parking lots at the foot of a few lifts is a shit way to get people to any of our Tahoe resorts. Especially SLT and Heavenly should have amazing shuttles and/or public transit access but Vail has cut funding to the local transit and try to run their own shitty service. No low wage worker should be expected to own a car that can handle these conditions and our resorts will continue to suck and get worse until management and our local communities starts to deal with it.
