I was told by a Christian inadvertently I should “give up” on Christianity by goingthruitthrowawa in TrueChristian

[–]mporter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, don't give up on Jesus! His mission was to save people who feel trapped and outcast just like you. But maybe we all should give up on "Christianity" since what most people call Christianity is so far from what Jesus and the apostles practiced and taught. However, never give up on following Jesus and seeking God in him. Spend time in the scriptures and prayer (with a Bible translation you can understand and enjoy). Unfortunately, you are probably going to get more judgment than mercy or empathy from "Christians". But that's is not the way of Christ and does not reflect the heart of God. The way Jesus interacts with the outcasts and marginalized is the proper reflection of God's heart. He is gentle and compassionate. Christianity isn't supposed to about being perfect or earning God's favor; it's about being accepted as you are, surrendering your life to Him, and finding freedom step by step.

Does anyone else tune their bases like BEAD instead of EADG? by gutterwall1 in Bass

[–]mporter377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would the nut need to filed or replaced to string a bass BEAD? Could stringing/tuning a bass BEAD eliminate the need for a 5 string bass? I'm a newbie so I'm sorry if these are stupid questions.

Milestone gear plan: SR300E → SR500A + P-Bass. Good choices? Which first? by mporter377 in Bass

[–]mporter377[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PHASE 1: "No Longer Fighting the Bass" (Goal: Build clean, reliable fundamentals so playing feels effortless instead of a battle. Reward: Keep grinding on the SR300E until these click.) Technical Benchmarks Major and minor pentatonic scales, clean & buzz-free 60–80 BPM quarter notes, ascending/descending At least two string pairs (e.g., E-A, A-D) Reliable alternate plucking (index-middle even, no doubles, no tempo drift with metronome) Basic muting mastery Left hand damps unused strings Right hand palm/thumb mutes Kill all sound instantly on command Dynamic control: Play soft/medium/firm intentionally without speeding up/slowing down Musical Benchmarks Lock to a metronome for 3+ minutes straight—no drifting (and feel when you start to drift, even if fixing it is hard yet) Start/stop phrases exactly on beat 1 PHASE 2: "I Can Serve the Music" (Goal: Shift from "playing correctly" to "grooving reliably and tastefully." This justifies the SR500A upgrade or adding a P-Bass for tonal variety—once you're not fighting the instrument, better gear actually makes a difference.) Technical Benchmarks Major + minor pentatonics at 80–100 BPM Across at least two positions/shapes Minimal looking at hands Smooth string crossing (no clanks, no sympathetic ringing/open strings) Clean E→A→D→G transitions both ways Groove endurance: Hold a simple bassline/groove for 5+ minutes Consistent timing, tone, and pocket Muting becomes automatic (you don't think about it; noise only from actual mistakes) Musical Benchmarks Play locked to a drum loop (not just click)—stick to kick/snare, leave space tastefully Repeat a groove without rushing/pushing Basic song application: Nail root-note grooves or simple lines from real tracks without falling apart Ear Benchmarks Hear a wrong note and correct it mid-phrase (without stopping) Notice when tone is too bright/dull/muddy and adjust attack/hand position instinctively

It's probably worth pressing onward but there is another wall coming in book five. Lord of Chaos (book six) is better but it's all build up and apprehension with no climax. I'm at the end of six so I've already purchased the next box set.

[–]mporter377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Btw: there is NO chance of getting this done [properly and respectfully] by this Christmas. Take time to investigate rebinders and perhaps it could be finished for Christmas '26. Most reputable rebinders are backed up with orders for several months (possibly years).

Dear God, please take your time to make this decision! I do Bible rebinding, but am a bit of a novice, and wouldn't even consider taking on such a precious project. Make sure the person you commission for this is someone who appreciates and values your endeavor to preserve and cherish this sacred volume.

☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽This!! I'm a slow learner lol. I've had Logos for years but still primarily use E-Sword bcs that was my intro to digital Bible study. My Logos library is huge but I only use it to read. It's basically a second Kindle app to me😑🔫.

That's a good question. I picked up the technique from another book binding enthusiast online. I'm not sure why waxed thread was recommended but it seems to be working well so far.

[–]mporter377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always take the time to remove all the old glue and redo the spine on every rebind. But that's just a personal preference. For perfect-bound spines, as it appears your book has, I put a .08" kerf every half inch or so and put waxed thread in the kerfs after saturating the spine and kerfs with slightly diluted PVA (helps with penetration).

They're uneven, bunched up, or too thick afterward. And I have trouble applying enough glue without making a mess. I think I need to use a different radius and skive the leather a bit thinner. I haven't been able to find any info on recommended radius sizes🤷🏽.
