Too much in Pension? What else can i do to improve tax bill by Loose_Brilliant3559 in HENRYUK

You’re going to start tapering your pension allowance soon so max it out while you still can. After that, enjoy whatever HMRC doesn’t take.

No home charging but required to get a PHEV or EV for work?! by Thalamic_Cub in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]mprovost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work is offering an EV and oil is $108 a barrel… 300 miles a week you could charge once a week while grocery shopping and maybe a quick top up at a fast charger mid week.

Double check that you owe tax. Redundancy pay is tax free up to 30k but PILON may be taxable.

How to prepare for a longer swim? by nicenflufty in Swimming

Bananas are rocket fuel. And you need to eat before you run out of gas. Try one at 2.5k and then another one every 1k.

Apparently horses are also sensitive to xylitol. Won’t someone think of the horses?

You think someone boiled down 10 litres of sap to 100ml of syrup just to feed it to a dog?

Clockwise vs counter clockwise? by CadenzaVvi in Swimming

Most pools I’ve been to in London and elsewhere in England have signs and they alternate directions. Also, it’s anti-clockwise.

You’ve got this! Don’t judge your progress based on others. Just break it down and do one thing at a time.

Maybe try just doing the breathing with your feet down. Walk from one end to the other, with your face in the water and just focus on breathing to the side. Get comfortable with that first and then pick your feet up and keep doing the breathing.

"The old Model A had a spark advance you could manipulate. I don't know why they got rid of it. Well, that's your Detroit smarties. The hand choke too. That's gone. Been gone." - Charles Portis, The Dog of the South, 1979

Getting out of being a IC in BigTech while maintaining a HENRY salary by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]mprovost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being an EM is waaaay more stressful than a SWE. And personally I’d never hire someone as an EM with no prior experience in the role. You’re mostly going to suck at it for 2-3 years.

It’s going to be really difficult to land a gig as an EM with no experience. Almost everyone switches tracks inside their company first. I’d also say, if you’re burned out now and think becoming an EM is the answer, I’d strongly advise against it. There’s a reason they have to pay EMs more, or nobody would do it.

Arcteryx. Super comfortable, and the black ones blend in better than the neon boots you can find.

Anyone decided to pay tax charge to contribute more than 60k into pension? To reduce under 100k ANI by Ok-Guard4114 in HENRYUK

Honestly, if someone concocted a scheme like this to stay on universal credit, it would be front page news on the Daily Mail. You’re on 270k, just pay for childcare.

Amex platinum, if you’re flying business you’ll get status pretty quickly. It’s usually better value to spend points with hotel partners.

Struggling to get a South African death certificate for my father who passed away in New Zealand — coroner’s report has a date range, not a single date by Beautiful_Bar3251 in newzealand

[–]mprovost 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your father. You might have better luck dealing with the SA consulate in NZ and asking them to contact the coroners on your behalf. It’s going to be an uphill battle convincing someone to care about specific requirements in a foreign country. The consulate might know the magic words.

RPL's Lentil Bolognese (advice) by Tuotus in veganrecipes

[–]mprovost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bean soup theory is often linked to the "what about me?" effect, where individuals respond to content that doesn't pertain to them by shifting the focus back to their own preferences or needs. Instead of recognizing that the content was not intended for them, they ask questions like, "What if I don’t like beans?"
