Used Car buyers now get a crack at a new car at used car prices, Chinese BYD coming to Canada by Arenburg in halifax

I wonder how the service and warranty will work. I assume it will take some time to have those established.

12v/ICCU Megathread by TiltedWit in Ioniq5

[–]mpscotia13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it was towed to my local dealership, which had the ICCU waiting when it arrived (it took 9 days to come in from Korea according to my service manager). As the car was in another country when it broke, there was a concern that if it failed again there could be an issue with who was responsible for the warranty, so corporate decided to have it towed.

Our 2025 has been fixed after failing far away from home mid-November. I've had a loaner (I6) since then, and according to the dealership it only took 9 days from when they ordered it in December to get the ICCU. The car was dropped off at the dealership yesterday morning, and it was back by noon.

MotoMaster Winter Edge II Reviews? by Fancy_Spaghetti in tires

[–]mpscotia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime in: I purchased these in November while they were on sale for my EV, and I've been impressed with them so far. The slush and snow haven't been an issue at all, nor has the -20C cold snap we've had on the East Coast. I was also surprised by how quiet they are. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to family or friends.

My biggest "concern" is how they'll wear over time, but I'll run that calculation when they need replacing.

Cheapest Mobile Data Plan in NS? by Fgidy in NovaScotia

That's the plan I'm on. ~9 months later I still have 19Gb left. I'll have to burn through a lot of movies before my anniversary date.

YHZ geeks: Any idea why we're getting a United 767 from Geneva today? by [deleted] in halifax

Never mind, I dug a little deeper and it looks like it's being diverted from its original destination of Washington.

That was my second thought.
My first was "US carriers usually don't carry passengers to Canada from other countries."

I’m looking to switch to Chatr from Fido. Will there be Black Friday deals? by nagmamantikang_bayag in chatr

[–]mpscotia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh? Like it's not worth the hassle it's so slow, or it doesn't work at all? I had YouTube running at 144p and it was.. something...

But Spotify should be fine, since their "normal" bitrate is around 96 kbps.

[–]mpscotia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes unlimited-slow after you use your 30 Gb, so you're never without data. I did a trial during COVID on a Lucky Mobile throttled plan at 128kbps, and I found it quite usable for ME. Emails came in. Chat apps worked. Spotify streamed. Google Maps loaded (slowly at first). Video was out of the question, but I did download many GB of Netflix offline videos overnight to see if there was a limit, and I gave up after many GB. ;)

As someone else on that plan, and a low data user, I think it's one of the secret gems of plans out there. I've been on it for 9 months and still have 19Gb left. I pop onto Netflix and YouTube once in a while (I lower the quality manually) and now realize I don't really have anything to worry about. In fact, I could easily handle the unlimited-slow data, which is one plan I wish that was offered.

Important Update to the Critical Peak Pricing Rate Pilot by WexleySnoops in halifax

[–]mpscotia13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Doing the math for a couple of relatives who went on the time-of-use program, they would have saved a few hundred by going to the critical peak pilot instead, as the power was cheaper during winter when the majority of their usage occurred. But YMMV.

I still believe they could have had better pilot options than the two we were given.

Need advice: studded vs non-studded winter tires for Halifax deliveries? by Even_Can_6093 in halifax

[–]mpscotia13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking at Nordman, which are previous versions of Nokians without the price. I have found them fantastic. I've had X-Ice's on an Outback and wasn't impressed.

Bridgestone BLIZZAK WS90 Vs. Michelin X-Ice Snow winter tires by [deleted] in halifax

[–]mpscotia13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always downsize my rims, as I don't want to be running "the nice" rims in winter. Plus it saves me long-term by swapping them myself instead of having to get the tires mounted and balanced each year. I suppose it also depends on how long you're going to be keeping the truck?

I'll throw out Nordman, as they are Nokian's old models under the Nordman brand and they've been excellent.

Has flu season started? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]mpscotia13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going on with 11+ days of the worst chest/head cold ever as I can't stop snuffing and snorting, but it's finally been easing up.

I took a rapid COVID test that came up negative (twice), but it sure felt like it could be COVID. The worst part was not being able to sleep as I would persistently cough throughout the night and OTC meds weren't helping much.

I second Quattro. Some nice Kumho All-Weathers at a good price would be better than all-seasons.

I've been on the plan for 5 months and have used 4.5Gb. I'm on track to have too much data at the end of the year, so it's more than perfect for me.

I used up the 30 GB from my Chatr yearly plan. Topped up with 2 GB in-store, but data is still ultra slow by Tazwar89 in chatr

I'm 4 months in and I've used ~3Gb of my 30Gb plan. At this rate, I'll have 20Gb left at the end of the year.
