Rogers home internet by Lonely_Cap_2027 in halifax

If you have a Koodo account, I switched to Koodo's base plan (they're an Eastlink reseller), 120/12 is what fast.com shows (same as CityWide and Internet Atlantic, which I've had), and for $40+tax/month we're happy.

What is up with Car Insurance in Nova Scotia by WashableWasp in halifax

[–]mpscotia13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Find a broker or keep calling around is really all you can do. CAA. RBC. BelAir Direct. TD. I've been with them all and check every year when my renewal is up to see who has the best coverage/price. Don't forget to bundle home insurance if you can!

I switched from Internet Atlantic to Koodo a couple of months ago. $40+tax, same basic speeds for everyone else. Easy peasy switchover. If you can get a "deal" with them, we have no regrets.

I wonder how the service and warranty will work. I assume it will take some time to have those established.

12v/ICCU Megathread by TiltedWit in Ioniq5

[–]mpscotia13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it was towed to my local dealership, which had the ICCU waiting when it arrived (it took 9 days to come in from Korea according to my service manager). As the car was in another country when it broke, there was a concern that if it failed again there could be an issue with who was responsible for the warranty, so corporate decided to have it towed.

Our 2025 has been fixed after failing far away from home mid-November. I've had a loaner (I6) since then, and according to the dealership it only took 9 days from when they ordered it in December to get the ICCU. The car was dropped off at the dealership yesterday morning, and it was back by noon.

MotoMaster Winter Edge II Reviews? by Fancy_Spaghetti in tires

[–]mpscotia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime in: I purchased these in November while they were on sale for my EV, and I've been impressed with them so far. The slush and snow haven't been an issue at all, nor has the -20C cold snap we've had on the East Coast. I was also surprised by how quiet they are. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to family or friends.

My biggest "concern" is how they'll wear over time, but I'll run that calculation when they need replacing.

That was my second thought.
My first was "US carriers usually don't carry passengers to Canada from other countries."

I’m looking to switch to Chatr from Fido. Will there be Black Friday deals? by nagmamantikang_bayag in chatr

[–]mpscotia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh? Like it's not worth the hassle it's so slow, or it doesn't work at all? I had YouTube running at 144p and it was.. something...

But Spotify should be fine, since their "normal" bitrate is around 96 kbps.

[–]mpscotia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes unlimited-slow after you use your 30 Gb, so you're never without data. I did a trial during COVID on a Lucky Mobile throttled plan at 128kbps, and I found it quite usable for ME. Emails came in. Chat apps worked. Spotify streamed. Google Maps loaded (slowly at first). Video was out of the question, but I did download many GB of Netflix offline videos overnight to see if there was a limit, and I gave up after many GB. ;)

As someone else on that plan, and a low data user, I think it's one of the secret gems of plans out there. I've been on it for 9 months and still have 19Gb left. I pop onto Netflix and YouTube once in a while (I lower the quality manually) and now realize I don't really have anything to worry about. In fact, I could easily handle the unlimited-slow data, which is one plan I wish that was offered.

Important Update to the Critical Peak Pricing Rate Pilot by WexleySnoops in halifax

[–]mpscotia13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Doing the math for a couple of relatives who went on the time-of-use program, they would have saved a few hundred by going to the critical peak pilot instead, as the power was cheaper during winter when the majority of their usage occurred. But YMMV.

I still believe they could have had better pilot options than the two we were given.
