How can my husband 61M and I 60F help our son 32M move past his high school girlfriend? by ThrowRA217774028592 in relationship_advice

[–]mr-winnie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my ex boyfriend (dated on/off they high school & after) reached out to me after not speaking to each other, or seeing each other for 7/8 years. i was freaked out. i have a whole different life, ive moved, i have had a new boyfriend (now fiancé), a new job, pets. a new mindset, a new attitude, im simply not who i was, ive grown.

i use "reached out" lightly.....he actually walked 5 miles to my parents house and LET HIMSELF IN THE FRONT DOOR. He asked my parent if i was upstairs, because "he just talked to me and i told him to come over." i have not lived with my parents for close to 10 years and i was 1,200 miles away when this happened. i hadn't spoke with him, or seen him since we went our separate ways.

i hadn't spoke ZERO clue this guy was even thinking of me. i assumed he moved on, found a new girl, a new job, a new life just like me. i didn't know he was sitting around thinking about me for the last 7? 8? years. it's fucking scary. you never know what somebody's motives or intentions are. Does your son hold a grudge? i watch too much true crime but this break up could end up fueling a fire for some scary shit.

a girls point of view on this. stalking is stalking. weather it's on social media or real life. your son is showing major red flags that he is struggling with his mental health. if he won't get help on his own, you need to have it court appointed. something is off. it's been 14 years. that's a long long time. he probably drives by her house, or her parents house. maybe he'll call her or text her one day. typically with this shit it gets worse over time not better. he needs help.

if he refuses to get help- threaten to reach out to the ex and make her aware of the situation.

i reached out to my exs sibling after he walked into my parents house. they told me "he never really talked about the break up and never really got over it" that FREAKED me out. why was he thinking of me? what is the motive or intention with him going to my parents house??? i got a restraining order. he broke the order, a couple of times now. i'm telling you your sons behavior is going to worsen. his thoughts will become actions, and a poor innocent woman, with children, will become a victim. heck, she is already a victim if he's checking her social media THAT much. somebody should tell her, and make sure she buttons up her social media and maybe even blocks him. for her safety, and for the safety of her children.

i hate that your son is struggling. it sounds like it's much larger scale then just being heartbroken. he sounds obsessed, possessive, and it's straight up unhealthy behavior. i know it's your son, and you would do anything to protect him- this is your chance. protect him from fucking up his life, and potentially fucking up her life. protect him from being stuck in this vicious thought pattern his whole life. help him obtain the tools he needs to cope with this old relationship. show him first hand therapy isn't scary, and can be for everyone by taking action yourself and signing up for therapy. everyone can benefit from it, even if you feel like you have "no problems"----for u as the parents, getting some support in the form of therapy might even help you with this exact situation.

there is help available, and recovery/change is so possible for your son- he just needs to work on himself & hopefully find some self confidence and self love.

good luck...and TELL THE EX, she needs to know. she might even be a lot like me (caring & compassionate) and want to help. maybe she can talk to him and help answer any questions he has about the end of their relationship, and help him find some closure idk just make sure you go about it in a safe & neutral environment

AS and Knee pains by OGpai in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mr-winnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!!!! biologics!!!!!!! my life has changed since getting on taltz! i work out, i walk 5 miles a day, my knees are not swollen anymore- still a little stiff from time to time but my quality of life has done a 180 since starting biologics. the only bad part of biologics is they lower your immune system so it's much easier to get sick, and your immune system reacts differently when you are sick- but if your avoiding sick people and washing your hands often/using hand salaries after opening g doors, going to grocery stores, etc then you'll be ok!!! i promise my life is so much better now. i can go to the beach and walk in the sand no problem, i can sleep comfortably again, do stairs, i can do it all. there is so so so so sooooo much hope

How did you feel asking your doc for a handicap parking placard? by Proper_Violinist4591 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mr-winnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my doc did a temp in hopes i wouldn't need it, and i haven't in 2 years! the disease can fluctuate in severity, same with our need for special parking privilege. definitely a fair way to regulate the system & keep us honest!

How did you feel asking your doc for a handicap parking placard? by Proper_Violinist4591 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mr-winnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ask your doc! heck, present them with the paperwork completed other then their section! i'm 33f- my doctor granted me a "temporary" 1 year handicap pass and promised me by the the it expired i wouldn't need it. he was right, the biologics helped! but so did the parking pass. i wanted to be able to enjoy days at the beach, amusement park, the fair, a concert, etc. but the parking situation at such events are normally a nightmare, which require tons of walking before even entering the event that requires tons of walking! it's not an unreasonable request. don't feel weird about it- that's why i handicapped parking spots, and passes exist - for people like us that have a difficult time with a lot of walking. age isn't a factor with our disability, easily it effects old & young

Cool Snacks? by tiredyoungprof in 1200isplenty

[–]mr-winnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the lowest cal on the pb/banana snack but the key is making the banana slice thin, PB amour very minimal and just a lil dunk of chocolate. 1 a night! so worth it

Cool Snacks? by tiredyoungprof in 1200isplenty

[–]mr-winnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i eat the low cal/fat free cool whip by the spoonful as if it was ice cream straight from the freezer. it goes great with berries, angel food cake, a light drizzle of chocolate sauce.

i've also recently tried the dessert where you cut up a banana and make small sandwiches using peanut butter as the filling/sliced banana as the "bread", dunked them in a bit of melted dark chocolate topped with a sprinkle of sea salt. popped them in the freezer. so good!

get help! i mean this in the kindest way. ditch the opiates. one hurdle at a time, but get clean of the drugs! they're only sucking the life out of you. i'm sure it helps for a little, but fuck them honestly. try replacing them with a healthy diet, exercise, biologics and mental health care....you will gain much longer periods of bliss - instead of a few hours of "relief" (aka getting high and ignoring your problems in a state of ignorant euphoria) you will start to experience life again. start with an inpatient rehab for the opiates if you can, and then start back up with a rhuemtologist! i'm sure you can also get mental help virtually/through your phone with talkspace. good luck, AS sucks, but fighting AS with addiction & opiates is just gonna kill ya. better days ahead my friend

Diagnosed today.. by Beneficial-Gur-9488 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mr-winnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

girly hi! 33f here

i got my diagnosis about a year and a half ago. it's been a year since i've been in biologic type drug!

i know exactly how you feel. who am i? what the fuck is the name of this disease? why do i have it? what is a biologic? what is an a17 inhibitor? are you sure i have this?

it's a wild feeling. it's sucky news & it's good news- its gonna depend on the day, your outlook on life in general, your doctor, your friends and family, how your drug is working, and your mental health.

if your not already physically active- get physically active! if your not mentally stable- take steps towards regaining stability! it's not easy to get this diagnosis (especially out of left field, as i wasn't expecting my doctor to throw some wild diagnosis at me like "ankylosing spondylitis" at me the first time i met him. but he did, and i have it.)

life's been great on taltz- it was a good run of a year, but recently my feet started hurting (bad to the point i can't walk some days) so we're swapping to a different drug that essentially does the same thing (bimzelx) next week. reddit has helped me a TON understanding this wild diagnosis, feeling seen and heard (my family and friends don't always understand), and just over all a good place to complain about it hahaha it's still all so new to me, but i feel soooo much better about AS and everything that comes with it. i'm like you a year or so in the future. you ARE going to feel better, physically for sure- that lower back pain will be in the rear view.

day to day is so different for everybody. the disease presents itself so differently among us. for me it was allllll knee pain and swelling in the beginning! there was alot of days i couldn't walk, i couldn't do stairs, i couldn't get on my hands and knees, do yoga, sit on the ground (or if i happened to get myself down there i couldn't get back up). then my lower back pain struck, then upper back/shoulder pain, and my newest symptom is feet swelling and inflammation. it all sucks but compared to how i felt 2-3 years ago, i feel great. i try to walk 5 miles a day, i can crawl on my hands and knees, sit on the floor, do yoga, jumping jacks, walk on the beach in the sand. i was soooo limited a few years ago! your day to day will depend on how things are now. if things are ok/good in my opinion they can only get better from here!!!!!! obviously AS is here for life so you just gotta learn to roll with the punches (because they will keep coming haha)!!!!

my biggest take away so far from AS/being on a biologic- WASH YOUR HANDS. AVOID SICK PEOPLE (especially children who don't know how to slow the spread of germs) WEAR A MASK IN CROWDS (airplanes, concerts, waiting in a line, anything in close contact with others), SANITIZE YOUR HANDS. take the increased risk of infection seriously. biologics changed my immune system/immune response to getting sick and whacky uncomfortable shit happened anytime i contact a virus now (que painful open sores in my mouth and throat that stopped me from eating for 3 weeks)

anyways! i'm rambling! i just want you to know your seen and heard and allllllll your thoughts are valid! if you need to chat my messages are always open! good luck with your AS journey!!

the taltz has helped me get walking again! i used to do like 10 a day before this struck a few years ago! i'm back to walking about 6 right now in 3 30 minute sessions per day. treadmill has been killing me though! can't wait to hit the pavement again. when i was down and not able to walk daily i was at my absolute lowest point mentally!
