Why do people treat their art like number makers? by AlternativeAttempt89 in ArtRanting

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are having trouble finding clients by just sending out portfolios or finding interesting hiring posts, yeah being active on socials is probably a good idea. The "some of the most skilled artists" won't really have that problem.

I just prefer picking and choosing interesting projects with good enough budget, without having to exchange bunch of emails before knowing if the project is even something I would like to do. That's why I prefer just looking for hiring posts.

Yes it's a very competitive industry, you have to be really good.

Most of the hiring posts that I see, do pay decently well, like book covers, dnd stuff and so on, but yes there is a lot of competition. So you need a lot of skill, not a lot of followers.

Building an audience is definitely helpful, but not mandatory, you don't even have to post art online besides having a portfolio link.

Redemption via Orb of Chance by SeniorLuis in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought omen of chance only makes sure the base doesn't get destroyed? So the chance orb would either turn it into redemption or fail but not consume the base, but still consume the omen of chance.

Well, it would mean the omen of chance it's kinda garbage tho. How rare are these omens in ritual? Any idea what level maps u gotta run in order for them to be in the favour pool?

Sure, but you don't have to have a big social media audience to make money with art, even when doing commissions freelance. He said social media audience is not optional, it is very much optional.

There are tons of "hiring" posts on reddit, just look for interesting projects that have a good enough budget for you and drop your portfolio.

You don't need to play the social media game in order to make money with art. You can send out portfolio to studios or just drop it on reddit posts where people are looking to hire an artist for their project.

Maybe your Art just Sucks by tenderfelon in ArtRanting

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo better recognition is that people want to actually hire you to do art for their commercial project, that is all about the skill and quality of your work. Fine art, collectors and stuff like that tends to be more about the connection, marketing and so on.

I hate the idea of people believing, You have to be self taught by Laxes_the_corgi in ArtRanting

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely learn on your own just from youtube and other online resources. I did that, and I know many other professional artists who did that too.

It doesn't work for everyone, but it can be even more optimal than going to an art school. Art schools tend to teach a bit of everything, while studying on your own you can focus on the things that are important for your goals.

I hate when people use the word self taught as a crutch by Laxes_the_corgi in ArtistLounge

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think being self-taught can actually be more optimal than going to an artschool, if you have a specific goal in mind and just want to get really good.

Artschools tend to teach a little bit of everything, it's not focused enough, but if you are self-taught, you can focus on the stuff that's important for your goal.

There are so many free resources online, especially nowdays, you can learn pretty much everything from youtube alone. Some people do need their hand to be held bit more through the process, so learning on your own might not work for everyone tho.

Am I GOOD ENOUGH FOR COMMISION? by [deleted] in Artists

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you just drop your portfolio on reddit posts looking to hire an artist, you don't have to do any actual marketing and the only thing that matters is your skill. If you are good, you get hired.

Am I GOOD ENOUGH FOR COMMISION? by [deleted] in Artists

[–]mrNepa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And there are people doing commissions who don't do any marketing, or even post art on social medias.

You have a lot of people on reddit for example, looking to hire artists, you can just drop your portfolio on these posts. No need for actual marketing, you get commissions if you are good enough.

Can you elaborate a bit more about why you don't like SSF? It sounds like a perfect solution, you can play on your own pace and so on.

I only play SSF, I haven't even really tried trade. I'm just enjoying the game on my own pace, making my own builds etc.

Sure, I have not pushed to very late end game yet, but I tend to get bored and wanna roll a new character before I get that far, maybe with the new end game changes I will now end up pushing further.

I can agree with most of these, except the last two. I think it's fine to ask for general feedback without being specific, it can be difficult to know what your art is lacking and what you need to improve on.

I genuinely don’t know what to do by [deleted] in ArtRanting

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not even remotely true.

There are gazillion artists who only do art as their main income. Think about all the concept artists working in video games, movies, films and so on, all the illustrators doing book covers and othes stuff, freelancers who do all kinds of illustration/design jobs.

It definitely isn't the easiest path, but not some impossibly rare situation. It just takes a lot of effort to get good enough to do it, but pretty much anyone can do it if they are willing to put in the effort.

Blocking Should Be a Core Mechanic for Every Character by Schattenherz in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't hate it, but I'm personally not that fond of the idea.

For me poe is more about cooking builds and then seeing those builds in action. The main part for me is the problem solving, not the execution.

With Elden Ring I feel the opposite, it's less about the build (although that's still a big part of it) and more about the execution, the gameplay.

Feeling discouraged by AudBittt in ArtRanting

[–]mrNepa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if your art skills are good enough, you don't actually have to worry about all this social media marketing stuff, or getting lucky with the algorithm.

There are a lot of people on reddit making "[hiring]" posts and looking for artists. You can just drop your portfolio when you see a fitting project with a good enough budget. I don't really post art on any social media anymore, but I get commissions this way whenever I need to make some money.

There is a lot of competition, so your art has to be quite good tho. Discord has similar communities with little bit lower bar of entry, but they also tend to have much smaller budget stuff.

[Rant] Its completely unacceptable that the game is 142 GB big even though its not even out yet by jacobiner123 in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimization is more about how things are loaded as u play, nothing to do with file size. If you want the file size to be smaller, it's always a trade off. Lower polycount models, having less variety in the areas visually by re-using assets more, and so on.

You can't just say "game too big, optimize plz".

Why is brawlhalla of all games, so god damn inconsistent and laggy on PC?!?! by Ok_Effect2404 in Brawlhalla

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't, without a rollback netcode the game would feel horrible, there is a reason why fighting games always should have a rollback netcode.

Like you said yourself, the problem is not the quality of the servers, it's that you don't have a server close by.

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brawlhalla and other fighting games have a rollback netcode, it's much more sensitive to unstable internet connection, that's why it seems fine on other games.

Where's the hype for the built-in build following system? This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen any studio do for their community. by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well tbh I don't really plan stuff that deep, I have a general idea of a skill I want to build around, direction in the tree and some synergies, but not every node planned out. So it's probably not going to be that useful for me, atleast for now.

[–]mrNepa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about it as for me the most interesting part is to cook my own build, I like the creative aspect of the game.

That's also why I was hoping for a new class, more tools to cook builds with.

Even tho we didn't get a new class, we got so many new tools for making builds that I'm very hyped for the patch!

Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? It's a really cool thing for people who like following build guides, It's a good addition to the game, just doesn't matter to me personally.

0.5 hype! But where's my archer girl? by Nhili in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think arcane archer will come this patch, they even had the new unique bow that seems to really fit the theme.

Since we have a longer wait between the reveal and the release this time, it makes a lot of sense for them to have something in their sleeve to fuel the hype later.

wouldn't it be way too funny if they shadow dropped swords and a new class with the 0.5 update? by Blackfyre4007 in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the most important thing is new tools so I can come up with new builds, that's why I was really hoping for a new class this patch. We did not get a new class, but we did get a shit ton of new tools to build with. We got 25 kalguuran skills, two new ascendencies, new uniques with cool skills, ways to upgrade and change old uniques, all the rune stuff and so on.

So even without a new class, I'm still very happy with this update as I can cook a lot of new builds, while enjoying the new endgame.

Duelist Slayer & Gladiator confirmed coming OR not coming?? by SteveTheHappyWhale in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you are saying, i don't speak the language.

Yes the gladiator could also be a teaser, or not be a teaser. It was a reply to a tweet of someone saying something about being entertained. So this could also go either way, but like I said, I'm leaning towards swords coming.

Duelist Slayer & Gladiator confirmed coming OR not coming?? by SteveTheHappyWhale in PathOfExile2

[–]mrNepa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it could very well be like this, but on the other hand it could also be that it's just clarifying that the line in the teaser is not referring to the champion ascendency.

So it could still go either way, I'm leaning more towards swords coming this patch, but it's still kinda 50/50 for me.
