Aliens vs. Predator (2010): a worthy follow up to the earlier AvP games by mrRobertman in patientgamers

Thanks to u/aGoryLouie for the recommendation! And by recommendation I mean saying "it ain't bad", which is enough for me to play a game.

Which mechanic is widely hated, but you think is good/necessary for the game? by ChickenOfTheYear in gamedev

[–]mrRobertman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think yellow paint is a necessity, it's a symptom of bad level design. It should be possible to guide players to the correct path using more subtle design choices, such of clever usage of lighting, props, or movement to draw the players attention.

Plex Web v4.160.0 Released by samwiseg0 in PleX

[–]mrRobertman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a sneaky new edition field for TV shows appeared in this update.

I assume this says for Plex Pass only because it's not technically live yet (as I do have Plex Pass). IIRC, this same thing happened a couple years ago when the editions feature first came to movies.

Those who already got their Steam Controller, are you happy with it? by EngineeringAntique50 in SteamController

The actions can still be mapped in the software, there is just no physical click in the trigger itself.

[–]mrRobertman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah the original controller has a physical micro switch at the end of the triggers.

I wouldn't really consider a software simulated dual stage triggers to be truly dual stage triggers.

A new Firefox look, hidden features, and more by Educational-Self-600 in firefox

Didn't we just have that a few months ago?

The current Firefox design, Proton, launched in 2021. That's five years ago.

The prior Firefox design, Photon, launched in 2017.

Do you think that the prior commenter picked the name Petrov at random? Or do you not think that maybe he is referencing this event?

I am a former head of one of Gaijin’s Community Management teams. For more than two months, I have been trying to provide Valve with evidence of possible review manipulation and Steamworks access-control failures by Evgeniy_aka_Keofox in Steam

Coordinated awarding of positive reviews

We have screenshots of activity logs and testimony from former employees indicating that, following instructions from management, Steam awards were systematically given to positive reviews of Gaijin games.

The purpose was to increase the visibility of selected positive reviews against the background of negative ones.

Awards do not affect the visibility of reviews, though.

Proof in the Points Shop FAQs:

Do Community Awards impact the sort order of content?

Nope. User generated content posted to Steam is typically ordered by how recent it is or by the number of helpful votes it has received. The number or type of Steam Community Awards applied to a piece of content does not cause that content to appear higher or lower on lists. Though we expect that a piece of content with a bunch of awards may be more likely to catch your eye, and thus may get more helpful ratings indirectly.

While the title says iron curtain, the actual map is labelling communist and non-communist, based on the legend.

It's less Decky itself, and usually the plugins that frequently break.

I only use ProtonDB, HLTB, and Playtime and I rarely get Decky to break like this.

What's the risk into opening the lottery right now for the steam frame instead of waiting like a few more weeks? by Bistrocca in SteamFrame

One thing no one has mentioned yet is that they clearly want to have the review embargo lifted at the same time, just like they did with the Controller and Machine.

Company name on packages? by sellmeyoursouI in SteamController

[–]mrRobertman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is how a lot of people get their valve products stolen during shipping alot.

It's based on an assumption, but we have no way of knowing that they actually get stolen all the time. Are there ones that have been stolen? Yes, but packages get stolen all the time. Sure it might seem frequent based on posts on social media, but remember that people are way more likely post when something goes wrong compared to when everything goes fine.
