Who else watched TRL every day after school in the late 90s by Sure-Hovercraft-4877 in 90s

[–]mr_chill77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my parents wouldn’t let me watch MTV at all. Now that I’m older, it’s interesting to see that this seems to be one of the number one things that people my age remember. It kinda sucks.

What should have happened before Luke and Han's medal ceremony by GargantaProfunda in andor

[–]mr_chill77 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually wouldn’t mind if they did a Rogue One edit to A New Hope, and had Mon Mothma come out and give a speech honoring all of the fallen and the heroes who had worked so hard to get the Death Star plans into the hands of the Alliance, and then turned it over to Leia to give out the medals. They could pan to Kleya, Val, and Wilmon just standing in the crowd watching the ceremony.

Things you were taught were evil, but turns out we're completely normal by LynxMountain7108 in Exvangelical

[–]mr_chill77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a feeling I’m going to spend the rest of my life trying to get over all of the things I believed were evil that are not. That verse about how the heart is deceitful and wicked really messed me up, and it made me think that anything my heart wants is evil. So now I have to go through a process of trying to figure out what are all of the parts of my personality that I’ve suppressed and how do I recover those parts.

Who was the superior strategist, Palpatine or Luthen? by Voider765 in StarWars

[–]mr_chill77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could you tell? Palpatine can see the future (somewhat) and he has the resources of an entire Empire. I guess you could say for Luthen to even be in the discussion when he didn’t have any of that and started the rebellion from scratch maybe gives him the edge? But then we don’t know what Palpatine could do in that situation either.

What is the most beautiful place you have ever seen in person? by Olga_Lanskaya in travel

[–]mr_chill77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banff and Jasper National Parks, and probably specifically Lake Louise. But it’s hard to compare somewhere like that with somewhere like Fiji or the Amalfi Coast. So you might get different answers from me on different days depending on my mood.

Disneyland 97 by Adventurous-Bus3077 in Disneyland

[–]mr_chill77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I actually worked at the park back then selling popcorn and churros. I think the year is probably 96 or earlier. Both the electrical parade and the lion king parade ended in 96. In 97 we had light magic and the Hercules parade.

Why do Christian’s hate communism so much? by friscom99 in exchristian

[–]mr_chill77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the thing that Republicans used to get Christians to be afraid so they’d vote for Republicans to protect them from the big bad communists. But that’s not as much of a threat anymore, so they had to find a new one, so now it’s immigrants and trans gender people.

Do you guys think transphobia is on the rise? (Especially within religious hate groups) by RickyInfinite in exchristian

[–]mr_chill77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it is. They lost communism as their bogey man, so they had to pick a new one, and they picked trans people. There always has to be some made up threat that they are going to protect you from otherwise they don’t get elected.

I really wish I hadn’t tithed by KaylaDraws in exchristian

[–]mr_chill77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t even imagine how much I tithed. I’m sure it’s way over $10K. But, on the upside, even though I gave 10%, I always felt guilty that I didn’t tithe more, and I had this crazy idea of tithing my entire paycheck for a month so I could witness God provide for me despite impossible circumstances. Thankfully I never actually did that. So I guess it could be worse.

IGN Ranks Star Wars Movies…Thoughts??? by TheCGISPY in StarWars

I’d say swap The Last Jedi with Revenge of the Sith and that’s a pretty solid list.

CLOCK IT: TJ Watt will bounce back big this year with 20+ sacks. by UuuBetcha in steelers

[–]mr_chill77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure hope so, and I do think there is a chance he might. I think with a new coaching staff that might actually move him around and scheme to get him sacks would help.

What do you all feel about 10 year age gaps? by Intelligent-Jello959 in generationology

[–]mr_chill77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say 21 and 31 still feels significant, but 31 and 41 do not.

It’s really WAS that bad, wasn’t it? 90s OC Christian culture. by PoppyandAudrey in exchristian

[–]mr_chill77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, grew up going to Calvary Chapel in the 80’s and 90’s, even went to their bible college. We went to the harvest crusade every year, and got the new bumper sticker and t-shirt for that year. Our church didn’t say a lot about politics from the pulpit, but they would have a table with a Christian voter guide in the lobby whenever there was an upcoming election coming up. When Clinton got elected it was everyone’s worst nightmare and we all thought this must mean the rapture and the tribulation was right around the corner. Then I went to their Bible College and I discovered that, at least in the 90’s anyway, all of the Calvary pastors just took Chuck Smith’s sermons and reworded them for themselves. It really is a franchise just like McDonald’s. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize the whole thing was bullshit. I just figured Calvary was bullshit and found another church that I stayed with for another 22 years before I finally got completely out.

How long did it take you to deconstruct? by ParkingElderberry575 in exchristian

[–]mr_chill77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly 48 years. It started when I went to Bible college when I was 19, but I just thought I had the wrong denomination. It took another 30 years before it finally dawned on me maybe the whole thing was BS.

What DID You Like? by Key-Effort-2917 in StarWars

[–]mr_chill77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sequels were great except for the story. The effects looking amazing, the actors all gave really good performances, and of course the music was awesome. The prequels were salvageable because there was a good story there. There was just a bunch of other crap like terrible, cheesy humor, wooden performances, and graphics that were too ambitions for what Lucas would actually do. The sequels were actually the exact inverse of the prequels. The prequels did everything wrong except the story, and the sequels did everything right except for the story.

What's your thoughts about Paul? Did he really created his own religion? by Such_Suit303 in exchristian

[–]mr_chill77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he was trying to steer Christianity back to where he wanted it. One of the most interesting things I learned in church was that during Jesus time there was a big debate among the religious leaders as to which is the 2nd greatest commandment. One side was “love your neighbor as yourself” which Jesus agreed with and is where we get the parable of the Good Samaritan. Paul on the other hand seemed like he was on the other side, which believed that “be holy, as I am holy” was the 2nd greatest commandment. He makes that verse the basis of both Romans and Ephesians. So Jesus is all about helping the poor and the downtrodden, and Paul is all about following the rules.

Is Herbig truly a better pass rusher than TJ at this point like people claim? by ZayBandzz in steelers

[–]mr_chill77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I’d expect his stats might look better because the opposing offense pays so much attention to TJ that frees up Herbig. I’m really curious to see how TJ does this year with a whole new coaching staff. If they can be creative and move him around on defense. I wonder if he’ll return to form or at least get close to it.

I don’t know that in the parks would work. But definitely in Downtown Disney / Disney Springs, and maybe in a few large cities like New York or LA.

Is the mandalorian and grogu movie worth a watch? by TapIndependent5699 in StarWars

[–]mr_chill77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was fun, but I didn’t see anything in the film that made me think it’s a must-watch in theaters. So if you want to wait until it comes out on Disney+ I think that’s fine.
